Some Native American groups cooperated with European settlers by signing treaties, translating for trade and negotiations, and teaching survival skills. Squanto helped the Plymouth colonists by translating and teaching them farming. The Powhatan tribe taught settlers how to farm, hunt, and fish and traded goods to help them survive their first two winters. The French developed a strong fur trading relationship with the Huron tribe that benefited both groups economically.
