MACROMEDIA FLASH 8 ENVIRONMENT AND DIFFERENT FLASH 8 TERMS(PART 1) PREPARED BY MS. MARICEL C. MALLARI DPS-HS COMPUTER EDUCATION ACADEMIC YEAR 2011-2012 SECOND QUARTER
MACROMEDIA FLASH 8 ENVIRONMENT Source: http://teacherclick.com/flash8/t_3_1.htm
MACROMEDIA FLASH 8 ENVIRONMENT The Timeline is where you control the elements of your movie over time. The Stage is where text, images, and animations appear. The white area of the Stage is the visible area of your project. You can modify properties of the Stage, such as size, color, and frame rate. The Workspaceis the gray space surrounding the Stage. Nothing in the workspace is visible when you publish your finished movie. However, you can place objects here until you want them to appear on the Stage. The Tools panel contains tools for creating and editing artwork. The Property inspector panel / properties panel enables you to see and change properties of objects on the Stage. On the right side of the Flash workspace are panels you can collapse or expand as you need them. Source: http://www.visualnectar.com/pdf/activity2_3.pdf
TIMELINE The Timeline is a key tool for organizing and controlling your animations. Here, graphics are animated over time. You coordinate the timing of an animation and assemble the artwork on separate layers on the Timeline. The Timeline displays each frame in the movie. Your movies can contain frames, keyframes, and empty (blank) keyframes. Source: http://www.visualnectar.com/pdf/activity2_3.pdf Source: http://www.visualnectar.com/pdf/activity2_3.pdf
PARTS OF THE TIMELINE Layers are a way of organizing the objects on the Stage, much like a stack of transparent sheets for an overhead projector. You must use separate layers to draw overlapping shapes. Each layer has controls for hiding or Showing the layer, locking it (so you won’t accidentally move its contents), and displaying its contents as outlines. Frames are like the individual frames of a filmstrip. The Timeline in a new Flash project appears to have many frames, but these are actually empty slots you can define as frames or keyframes. Akeyframecontains content and is shown by a solid circle. A keyframe usually indicates that a change is going to occur on the Stage. An empty keyframe, or blank keyframe, has no visual content on the Stage. The Timeline opens with one empty keyframe when you start a new project. The playheadindicates which frame of the Timeline is currently shown on the Stage. You can click and drag the playhead to move it to view a specific frame, or scan through the Timeline (scrubbing). The current frame is the frame on which the playhead is positioned. Frame rate is the number of frames that will play each second when your movie is viewed. Elapsed time is the amount of time it will take your movie to play from the first frame to the currently selected frame. You select a frame by clicking it. The term SWF was used as an abbreviation for ShockWave Flash. This usage was changed to Small Web Format to eliminate confusion with a different technology, Shockwave, from which SWF was derived. The Tools Panel The Tools Panels contains all necessary Tools for the drawing. Selection (arrow) Tool : It is the most used tool among all. Its main use is to select objects, it allows selecting the borders of the objects, the fillings (with only one click), the borders (with double click), zones on our choice... Moreover, its adequate use can save time of our work. Line Tool: It allows creating straight lines in a quick way. The lines are created as in any program of drawing. Click and drag to show up a straight line until the desired end point. Once created, the line can be modified just by placing the cursor near the line: above of the extremes for dragging them, and in any other part near the straight line to curve it. Text Tool: It creates a text in the place where we click. Oval Tool: The Oval Tool enables drawing circles or ellipses in a fast and simple way. Rectangle Tool: Its handling is identical to the Oval Tool, they only differ in the objects they create. Pencil Tool: It allows drawing lines, and after being drawn you will be able to edit its shape as you like. The color applied by this Tool can be modified from the Color Mixer Panel or from the subpanel Colors that is in the Tool Bar. Brush Tool: Its functionality is equivalent to the pencil, but its stroke is much more thicker. It is usually used for fills. Source: http://teacherclick.com/flash8/t_4_1.htm
The Tools Panel Paint Bucket Tool: It lets you apply fillings to the created objects. Many other programs of drawing don't allow to apply fillings if a border doesn’t limit the zone, it does. The color applied by this Tool can be modified from the Colors Mixer Panel or from the subpanel Colors that are in the Tool Bar. Eraser Tool: It works like the Brush Tool. Nevertheless its function is to erase everything what "it draws". Lasso Tool: Its function is complementary to the Arrow Tool, since it can select any object in a free way (the Arrow Tool can only select objects or rectangular or square zones). Pen Tool: creates polygons (and moreover straight lines, rectangles...) in a simple way. Many people find this tool to be complicated, although it's one of the most powerful tools that Flash provides. Subselection Tool: This Tool complements the Pen Tool, as far as it lets us move or adjust the vertices that make up the objects created by the above mentioned tool. Ink Bottle Tool: It is used to change quickly the color of a stroke. It is applied to objects with borders, changes the color of the boundary with one click in the Colors Mixer Panel. Eyedroppers Tool: Its mission is to "Capture" colors to use them afterwards. Source: http://teacherclick.com/flash8/t_4_1.htm
