Editor's Notes
Good afternoon! Today we would like to discuss a little about the epidemic that has come about in the technology world. I plan on touching on when it all began, the top networking sites out there now and this strong desire to feel connected at all times, which in turn has turned into an addiction for most. I also plan to discuss how this world is still evolving and maturing, what this means for your company, and how your company will benefit from this investment.
It’s hard to believe we have been using internet for almost 30 years. In those 30 years we have made phenomenal leaps and bounds with creating, designing, and implementing technology that is now the leading technology to communicate with the world. Even within those 30 years, social media has really only been playing a part for the last 14 years. It all started with dating sites and live journal type platforms for those who wanted to communicate and share their information with others. Friendster was the first modern social networking site and was founded in 2002, according to Web Designer Depot. In 2003, the first mainstream business networking social site was created, LinkedIn. The following year, 2004, Facebook was created. It was mainly a social site for a college campus, but quickly spread like wildfire. Now there are at least 200 different social media websites catering to almost any topic.
As we roll into the 2014 year we should expect to see some major changes within the social media realm. Last year it was calculated that 71% of adults with internet access, use Facebook. Facebook reached over 1.1 Billion active monthly users with YouTube following close behind with 1 Billion unique monthly users. Over half of the American population has at least one social networking profile they use, and it’s not just for the younger generation anymore. Studies show that all the way through the 65+ age group, 43% are actively using social networks in some way. At the end of 2013 it was also calculated that there are currently over 10 million Facebook applications or “apps” along with over 800,000 available apps for each the Apple app store and Google Play app store. This year the main focus for social media will be amazing graphics, how interactive an app or site is with the consumer, and really having something to stand out from the crowd.
Gartner Research said, “that by 2020, customers will manage 85% of their relationship without talking to a human. It sounds a little crazy, but at the rate we’re going it is totally possible. With the billions of the people that are online every day, every second, using social media to promote your company could have a wonderful return. Of the 200+ social media sites, most if not all of the sites allow your business to create a free profile. Along with that most consumers today expect a business to at least be connected with Facebook, in addition to their main website, to really feel connected to them. According to the State of Inbound Marketing, 80% of social network users in the US would rather connect to a business via Facebook. Having your company online will allow you to reach all of your customers, engage and interact with them, and overall generate more leads and more business for the company. A few examples: Coffee Groundz company reported that their sales increased 20-30% in sales and market share by using Twitter. Vitabotics saves over $100,000 a year by using social media, instead of having to conduct traditional research and test modeling. And Jimmy Choo was able to increase sneaker sales by 33% by using Twitter.
It is remarkable how the use of social media has blown up and also how fast the market is growing everyday. In a mere 30 years the world of technology has transformed into a social bubble in which you are almost out of the loop without it. With all the available tools today it is so important to utilize all these social networks efficiently to not only save money with your investment, but to also get you a large return on your investment. Our staff is very enthusiastic, determined, experienced, and always keeping up with current trends. With that we are very confident and would love the opportunity to expose and expand your company with the use of social media.
