Many employers express frustration with the Millennial Generation. This presentation offers a new framework for understanding "Emerging Adults" and working with the up and coming generation in the workplace. Solutions for accelerating the development of entry-level talent are discussed.
Managing projects effectively has become essential in every organisation large or small. The uncertainties of the world business economy, rapidly changing technology, and the intensifying focus on sustainability has driven many organisations to develop specific methods for managing projects and to seek highly qualified and competent people to manage those projects. These driving factors require today’s project managers to accept and adapt to change, lead diverse teams, act as ambassadors for their organisations and deal with a multitude of challenging project stakeholders.
It is clear that Project managers are placed in a unique position. They must balance their roles as leader and manager, interface with multiple types of stakeholders, are often the "face" of their organisation to its customers, and must deal with a seemingly unending stream of challenges to be successful. These challenges and the ability to address them require the project manager to maintain awareness of personal brand of and the impact it will have on project assignments, career opportunity, and the willingness of project teams to work for and support the project manager. As the profession of project management evolves and the demand for competent and value driven project managers increases, personal brand and reputation have become major factors in the criteria used to select and assign people to project leadership positions.
Indispensable Factors
The project manager must develop skills and competencies in several areas to be considered for an assign. In addition there are 4 major factors a project manager must address and continue to develop:
Accomplishability: your ability to achieve and deliver valued results.
Value/cost: the value delivered perception relative to the cost.
Supply/Demand: the market dynamics of your position, skills, etc.
Likeability: how others perceive you.
This presentation addresses the importance of the professional project manager in today’s business environment and the need for the project manager to continually enhance existing skills, adapt to a changing environment, and become a “go to” person in the organisation. Emphasis is placed on understanding the business needs of an organisation, clearly and visibly creating value from a client and supplier view point, and continually developing and managing personal brand.

Projects by their very nature require many stakeholders to work together to deliver outcomes. The greater the level of collaboration the higher the probability of success. This webinar was held on 23 November 2021.
The impact of relationships and behaviours cannot be underestimated but often this is left to develop organically and can frequently be impacted by external influences directly or inadvertently. A structured approach to placing collaborative working as part of the project plan and execution can help enhance performance.

More room (priority, time and budget) is given to the user adoption part of projects. This is a great development and makes Office 365 better used. But what if we want to bring this approach itself to the next level? Most projects still can improve in tailoring the communications and learning strategies to fit better a company culture, team dynamics and even personal preferences. Silverside, as the founder of the PACE methodology and experience with 200 customers, is proud to present the next version of our PACE toolset with a practical assessment for measuring culture, invitation to use our freemium success indicator for your change project and demonstrate our online tools for continuous learning and improving the daily usage of Office 365.

It is difficult it is to identify companies that have scalable business models AND equally important will they be able to execute their business plans. We have been working on this challenge now for over 4 years. In the past, a few interviews and some financial analysis might have been enough. Today, markets are more complex, and businesses are harder to evaluate. To solve this challenge have recently combined over 10 years of research on more than 10,000 companies to create an assessment that objectively measures: 1/. Scalability of the business 2/. And their ability to deliver innovation consistently.
The accuracy of our assessments are very good. Right now, with a 1-hour assessment, we are able to correctly classify businesses by scalability and able to predict just under 80% of their variance of innovation success

Throughout the years how teams worked has changed. There was a time when one person was responsible for all tasks, project management, business analysis, development and quality assurance and implementation. Then there was a swing to individual roles for each. Now, organizations are realizing the best approach is somewhere in between. Teams have to come together and determine what is necessary to reach their goals and determine who on the team is best to do the work.
This is easier said than done. This presentation will discuss the differences, in skills and tasks, which separate the team roles and discuss specific strategies for building a strong partnership between all team members.

ResolveTO - Dr. Andrew Maxwell: Corporate Innovation StageResolveTO
Dr. Maxwell has not met a senior leader in an organization who did not list innovation as a priority. Yet most struggle to increase the level of innovation activity in their organizations. Based on 15 years of research, he has observed that this is often because they focus on innovating, without first understanding and removing the barriers that stifle innovation. During this presentation, Dr. Maxwell will share and show you how to apply his unique Behavioural Trust Framework® (BTF), which you will be free use in your organization after the conference. He has found that leaders who use this framework to diagnose and address innovation barriers are able to rapidly increase innovation activities in their organizations.
Many large IT projects continue to struggle with user adoption, leadership support, and overall stakeholder buy-in. Effective use of Agile best practices is a proven means of addressing these buy-in issues within the IT organization, but what about other departments? In this session, we will discuss how Agile principles can drive an enterprise-wide change management approach in order to better reinforce the transformations taking place in your organization. The goal? Maximize collaboration between IT and the business and break down silos through iterative, incremental progress.
Keynote delivered at Podim Conference in Maribor, Slovenia on May 11, 2016. Talking about the common myths that hold people back from developing their products, and what to consider before catering to a global user base.
I gave this talk at the Frontiers of Interaction Conference in Milan, Italy. I talked about how global investment in fintech is on the rise, provide a breakdown across countries, plus the growing demand for fintech products, and the importance of design as a way to build trust with users.
Poornima Vijayashanker deliveries a keynote at SunShine PHP Conference 2015. In the keynote she talks about what culture is, and how it's built on identity, rituals, and decision-making.
Many product people overlook the importance of providing their users with a positive first-time experience—or they just don’t know how. As a result, signups never become customers. But you can improve your onboarding experience and turn signups into sales (we’ll show you how).
In this workshop, you'll learn:
1. Why it's important to provide users with a positive first time experience
2. Common mistakes people make that cause them to lose users in the signup stage
3. Techniques to get users to come back and convert to paying customers
4. How to persuade your team to prioritize user onboarding
By now you've probably heard enough times the importance of metrics. In the initial stages of a startup there isn't a lot of data, so we need to get some! There are some crucial initial steps you need to take to get set and collect metrics. In this talk I'll present how to take an initial snapshot, setup some initial metrics to track your progress, align them with milestones, and how you can use those metrics to guide your decision making and spend your limited time wisely.
Developers rely on manipulating data to create an engaging product for users. But in the early stages of a product, there is a dearth of it, which can make the user experience dull. Then as the product ages, the amount of data increases, and can become too noisy if not properly organized. In this talk, Poornima Vijayashanker will provide some strategies for dealing with data life cycles, and how to understand what stage you're at to guide product development.
Public speaking can be scary, but it can also be a great way to catapult your career!
Unfortunately people hold themselves back from speaking at conferences because they either don't know what to share, or feel like they need to be an expert in order to speak.
In this event, you'll learn:
• Why you should speak at technical conferences
• How to brainstorm and come up with topics to talk about
• How to submit a proposal
• How to structure a talk, engage with an audience, and keep those butterflies in your stomach at bay!
Watch the talk here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJfdxEuJVdM
Many great innovations began as toys built by individuals who love to tinker. In this talk, Poornima Vijayashanker tells us that she was introduced to technology, as a child, by her father who talked to her about ‘wafers and chips’. At home, she wasn’t afraid to take things apart; she even programmed the VCR, and installed the sound card in her family’s first PC. While people use technology, they fear learning how to code and building things. Machines are seen as a black box that should be left alone! In her talk she explains that we need to reignite people’s curiosity and imagination by getting back to engineering’s roots – tinkering and playing with things to see how they work.
It's often unclear what tracks are available to people in technical careers such as designers, engineers, and product managers within any size organization. The path chosen by many is the management track, but what if you want to stay technical? Are there alternatives?
In this talk, you'll learn:
• What to think about when you're evaluating the choice between pursuing a management vs a technical track
• The opportunities that are available to you if you choose to go down a technical track, what the day-to-day will be like, and how to prepare for this path
Whether you're just getting started in your career or have been working for awhile you'll benefit from the strategies covered in this talk.
You'll learn:
• Why people get promoted
• How to prepare for a promotion
• What to do about past performance
• What to do if you're passed up for a promotion
Whether you're a technical or non-technical founder you will need to recruit technical talent to help you scale your startup. In this talk, I'll cover strategies for how to attract and close top technical candidates for an early stage startup.
If you're tired of working on the same mind-numbing projects, this presentation will who you how you can present projects to get them approved within your current company.
Finding a Fit: How to Evaluate a Company's Culture and the OpportunityPoornima Vijayashanker
Ever looked at a job description and thought, "Wow I am totally NOT qualified..." Or left an interview thinking, "Hmm I don't even know what it's like to work there." Or wonder, "What happens after I accept this offer?"
