Urban Zoning Is Convenient, It Has Negative Impacts On The...
Imagine waking up in your apartment and walking down the street to your job. Later in the day,
you take a lunch break, and you walk from your office to your favorite restaurant a few blocks
down. Eventually, you get off work, and you head to the local grocery store just three doors
down from your apartment. You pick up dinner, and you plan a nice relaxing night in your
apartment. The night passes, and you do it all over again the next day. For a small percentage of
America, this is a realty. However, for many Americans, this is unprecedented. Since the 1940 s,
the majority of the U.S. cities and towns have moved to drivable sub urban zoning. Meaning
housing districts are usually more than a few miles from work, the closest restaurant, or grocery
store. This results in driving almost everywhere. Although drivable sub urbanism is convenient, it
has negative impacts on the environment. Therefore, the United States must make the conversion
back to walkable urbanism zoning because drivable sub urbanism is having detrimental effects on
our environment s land, air, water, and climate. Before the 1940 s, the majority of the United
States cities were zoned into walkable urbanism. In Christopher Leinberger s book, The option of
Urbanism, he describes walkable urbanism as the following, [In walkable urbanism] you could
satisfy most everyday needs, such as school, shopping, parks, friends, and even employment, within
walking distance or transit of one s home, (Leinberger 3). For

Orion s belt is one of the famous constellations in our galaxy. There are 3 stars that form the belt,
their names are: Mintaka, Alnilam, Alnitak, which comes from Arabic. In the myth, Hera, the
wife of Zeus sent a scorpion to kill Orion. The belt is a system of stars that have sibling stars that
orbit around it. Each star is potentially bright. The star Mintaka is super giant star that is 1,000
light years away. The star is also 10,000 times brighter than our son. With it being the western most
star of the belt, it is 60,000 degrees Celsius.
The star Alnilam, the middle star, is also a super giant. As close as it seems, it is actually 1,000
light years away from Earth. It has the coolest temperature of these three stars, ... Show more

The gods, Zeus, Hermes and Poseidon went to his house. He was very generous with the guests

The meaning of the three stars are: Mintaka means area or region , Alnilam means the string of

Have you ever felt so overworked that it may be affecting the quality of the outcome? In today s
day and age of our American judicial system, most would agree our judges are overworked. The
federal judges of the court system handle a vast number of court cases each year in the United
States. It has become directionally proportional between the growing populations, the increase in
crime, in turn leading to more cases. There should be a dramatic addition of judges within the
federal court system to lower the workload of the justices. From the signing of the U.S. Constitution
under Article III, our founding fathers put power into our third branch of the government. The
federal court system was new but becoming organized. It was designed... Show more content on

There have many articles, journals and comments made and debated about the current crisis of
the federal court caseload. It would be nice to get some help. We are pedaling as fast as we can on

It has been an ongoing struggle for the courts to keep up with the workload. The fact that there
has been talk and discussion about resolutions; this may be the first step to resolving the
problem. In the beginning days of our judicial system, as said before, a judge s caseload seemed
to be reasonable. It was not until the last few decades where the workload skyrocketed. In civil
cases alone from the 1940s through the mid 1990s, the caseload increased nearly 580 percent. To
emphasize the point, bankruptcy cases within the same time frame had increased over 1500
percent. There is no question that the ratio between cases and judges has become overwhelming.
During the 1940s the comparisons between civil and criminal cases filed were parallel. However in
the next few decades, civil cases rose slightly over the criminal, but then another issue began. Even
though with fast growing civil filings, the criminal cases were prone to take much more time

Virginia Woolf The Moth
The Death of the Moth by Virginia Woolf
Death is a difficult subject for anyone to speak of, although it is a part of everyday life. In
Virginia Woolf s The Death of the Moth , she writes about a moth flying about a windowpane, its
world constrained by the boundaries of the wood holding the glass. The moth flew, first from one
side, to the other, and then back as the rest of life continued ignorant of its movements. At first
indifferent, Woolf was eventually moved to pity the moth. This story shows that life is as strange
and familiar as death to us all. I believe this story was well written and will critique the symbolism,
characters, and the setting.
Woolf uses symbolism in her essay when she speaks of the moth and... Show more content on

This symbolism Woolf applies to everyday human life, making us understand that death will all
happen to us one day, when it is our time. There is no escaping death when it comes for us.
The character of the moth and the way that Woolf s story unfolds makes you, as a reader, feel as
if you are there actually watching the moth die. Her descriptions of the moth s flight and the
struggle against death as he lived his life that day involves you in the mourning of someone or
something you love dying. You feel every movement that Woolf saw in the moth s life that day by
reading this essay. As Woolf describes how the moth flew vigorously to one corner of his
compartment, and after waiting there a second, flew across to the other, you can feel the moth s
movements (1178).
In Woolf s essay, the battle between life and death is somehow seen as both pathetic and noble.
Pathetic because death will always win regardless the desire for life; but noble in how one faces
death on our back, defeated, or on our feet, and in dignity. Woolf states one could only watch the
extraordinary efforts made by those tiny legs against an oncoming doom which could, had it
chosen, have submerged an entire city, not merely a city, but masses of human beings; nothing, I
knew, had any chance against death and shows the moth s courageous journey into death (1179).
As I looked at the dead moth, this minute wayside triumph of so great a force over so mean

1. Compare and contrast the leadership styles of Mr. Keating and Mr. Nolan. Mr. Keating s
leadership style is supportive because he shows concern for his students well being and needs. He
has a charismatic attribute which helps inspire some emotion and passion in his classroom which
is a big change of character that Welton Academy students are used to. Mr. Nolan has more of a
directive leadershipstyle because he has strict guidelines that he wants to teachers and student to
abide by. He has a lot of power being the Headmaster of Welton, and he is always trying to control
behavior so that rules are always being followed. Everyone in the school knows better than to mess
with Mr. Nolan.

Mr. Welton has the mentality of If it ain t broke, don t fix it and a successful leader must be willing
to adapt to change over time.
4. What is the source of Mr. Nolan s power over the boys? Mr. Keating s? Mr. Nolan s power that
he has over the boys is legitimate power because he is the headmaster of the school. This type of
power inflicts fear on the students, as well as teacher s. The students know that Mr. Nolan has
the power to kick them out, call their parents, and even punish them with a couple smacks on the
rear end with a wooden paddle. The power that Mr. Keating has over the boys is respect. The
boys respect Mr. Keating because he was a student at the school and they see the way he turned
out to be. He gives the boys a hope to be something different and that the world is what they want
to make it, not what Welton Academy says it is.

Keating Mr. Nolan and John Sculley s concept of motivation is more conformity than anything
else. They feel that they must influence the behaviors and beliefs of others. They strongly believe

According to the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS)
the human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). I
wasn t aware that it impacts so many people; SIECUS reports that each year there are
approximately 6.2 million new cases of HPV and that 75% of people between ages 15 and 49

and there was a vaccine for young women. In the last decade, the understanding of HPV has
increased considerably. Although schools don t require the vaccination it s recommended that
children age 11 12. People have till their mid 20 s to receive a catch up immunization. HPV is
responsible for causing more than 90% of anal and cervical cancers, about 70% of vaginal and

Teenage Wasteland by Anne Tyler is focused on two characters: Donny, an emotionally unstable
teenager; and Daisy, Donny s mother, who is trying her best to help get her child on the right
path. Although, the main character begins the story as an innocent child, Tyler displays how the
confusion and lack of communication devolves Donny. Donny feels his mother Daisy and his
father are too controlling and give him no freedom. While his mother on the hand, thinks she
can control him entirely. As a child, Donny was a very blonde haired youngster almost white. As
he grew older and went through different events in his life his hair turned dark. The more
stressful situations Donny encounters the darker a person overall he becomes. As he progresses
from a toddler to a young adult different outside sources such as school, family, and friends affect
Donny s personality and his self esteem. For example, most of Donny s childhood, he felt the
world revolved around him and any decision he made. This is when he began degressing and
becoming depressed he was not the center of intention anymore altering his life as he knew it.
Then as his sister Amanda was born, he saw all the attention his parents once gave him dwindle
away. As a result of feeling unnoticed or unimportant, Donny began acting out in school. His
mother feels embarrassed because she was once a school teacher and could not believe one of her

The Human Race Progress Without Communication
How much would the human race progress without communication? The procedure of
communication has been vital to any growth or development made by humans over the years. From
humanity s beginnings as cavemen, with no formal communication system, to modern days, when
people can seemingly communicate with anyone, anywhere, it has always been very important.
Communicationis a series of processes involving certain key elements and the relationship between
them, allowing people to form and interpret messages, states Christopher L. Johnstone s text book
The Art of the Speaker. According to The Art of the Speaker, the communication process starts with
the sender, who generates the message. The Communication Model document defines the sender as
the one who is responsible for creating or generating the communication. The Art of the Speaker
claims that when something arises as a thing to be communicated, it then becomes the subject
matter of the message. A message is a structured set of behaviors or actions. For example, the sender
may want to communicate the message that he is in favor of gay marriage. The Johnstone text says
that the message contains both conscious thoughts, or cognitive meanings, and often unconscious
feelings, or emotional meanings.
Next in the process, the sender must choose to communicate cognitive meanings through symbols,
defined by the Communication Model document as behaviors performed more or less consciously
and voluntarily to represent experiences

The Yellow Ribbon By Pete Hamill
Memories can last a life time, so we tend to only remember the extraordinary ones. Extraordinary
like the essay The Yellow Ribbon by Pete Hamill, in which he talks about how a person named
Vingo, was riding on a, bus recently released from jail, to this oak tree explaining to some
passengers that he had told his wife to leave him if she wanted, since he went to jail or to go to
this oak tree and tie a yellow ribbon around it to see if she wants him to stick around and he will
go and check it out. In the end, he saw hundreds of ribbons tied on to the tree. Not only is this an
amazing story, but also very unforgettable one as well, because he finds out that after four years in
jail his wife has enough lovefor him to go to this tree and tie hundreds of ribbons just to show the
type of love the women had for Vingo. I have to say that, I believe this story is truly
unforgettable, but I also got a story that is very extraordinary, like the time that I got my very
first car. Furthermore, I didn t just get a car, I got the love of two truly loving parents. Much like
Mr. Hamill and his story about love I too have a love story that involves not my wife, but my
parents. When I got to the age of driving, and around the time to go to college I wasn t expecting

Talk about Pop Music, Talk about Pop MusicВ… was one of the most catchy phrases of the 1980

br
br I spent some time online trying to answer my question and time after time I was led to the same
direction: pop culture is what we see, hear, speak, and are otherwise exposed to on a daily basis.
The infomercials we see late on television, the billboards we see on the side of the road, the junk
mail we receive, the links on the web pages we visit, and the radio commercials we hear all tie
together to form this idea of pop culture. These, plus many other aspects, form our minds and teach

Organizational culture can be defined as the system of attitudes, beliefs and values that are
collectively expressed in support of organizational structure. Organizational culture is a pattern of
shared basic assumptions that dictate the behavior of individuals within an organization. Culture
determines which practices are appropriate and which are not, effectively developing standards,
guidelines, and expectations for individuals within an organization. Although they work hand in
hand, there is a definite distinction in the beliefs and the values that make up organizational culture.

As the stock prices were inflated, the liquidity of the company was spread very thin. Through the

to some people being imprisoned, while others are put on death row. But if crimes are crimes,
what makes them minor or major? Who decides if they are minor or major? Nowadays minor
and major crimes are being pushed together. For example, someone gets shot and the shooter gets

a lot of money to make sure that this particular crime was committed by the right person then so be

Robinsons also wrote about how the death penalty should be used:
More discriminate use of the death penalty reserving its use for only highly aggravated crimes, the

The Importance Of The Brady Doctrine
The Brady Doctrine governs all criminal trials which are a state, and federal in deterring
prosecutorial misconduct (Hall, 2015). I strongly agree with the importance of this doctrine. It
allows constitutional laws to uphold the disclosure of information without violating one s due
process right. This piece of philosophical evidence grants reasonable probability to be permissible
in a court of law which might exonerate a defendant. The Brady doctrine is a pretrial discovery
rule that was established by the United States Supreme Court in Brady v. Maryland in 1963 in
favor of a defendant (Hall, 2015). The doctrine required that prosecutors must turn over all
exculpatory evidence to the defendant in a criminal case in order to prove their innocence.

The Story Of An Hour And The Awakening Feminist Analysis
At the end of 19th century, American society presented an ideology of patriarchy. Feminists
struggle for the equality and discrimination against female. As feminist movement started, lots of
female writers were explored. One of the most famous writers is Kate Chopin. Her works mostly
present a theme of women pursue freedom and equality. The Story Of An Hourand The Awakening
are her representative works. In these two works, Kate Chopinreveals how women lived under the
oppression of male dominated society, especially for women who got married. They were not
financially independent and their freedom and rights were deprived. Therefore female were forced
to be an angle in the home . Both challenge the preconception that women can only be a
housekeeper and marriageis the only way out.
The Story of an Hour was narrated by the third person. The main character Mrs. Mallard is a
housewife and she has a heart trouble. Her Husband dies in a railroad disaster. When she heard
the news, she did not hear the story as many women have heard the same, with a paralyzed
inability to accept its significance. She wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment, in her
sister s arms (Pg 93). She did not cry out immediately, she seems shocked for a while and suddenly
break out. From my opinion, she isn t shocked, she is surprised. She is not just cry for the death of
Mr. Mallard, but also for the free life that she s going to live. She has been trapped and pressed for
so long. Husband s

Essay On Frank Romero
A Famous artist named Frank Romero painted a mural in 1984 in the city of Los Angeles he
named this mural Going to the Olympics. In the mural he tries to show the people of Los

that the people of L.A. love their cars, showing palm trees in between each car. On top he paints

In the the painting Romero tries to tell the viewers that one thing that everybody in Los Angeles
cares about is their cars. We know he tries to tell us this because what mostly pops out in the
painting is the cars and the giant heart on top of each car. The colors that Romero has chosen for
his painting give a certain type of mood to the viewers. When I first looked at the painting it gave
me a bit of happiness because his painting does really represent Los Angeles.
Frank Romero had officially finished the mural in 1984. Showing the people of Los Angeles what

1. Preface The contemporary school of thought in service science is currently dominated by the
notion of service centric services (Lusch amp; Vargo, 2008), whereby it is believed that the end
users are the determinant of value of a given service and co producing a service with the end
users would enhance the value of the service. A main assumption made by this school of thought
is that all aspect of services, from creation to delivery process, is the domain of the service
providers. However, the emergence of disruptive technologies such as the internet, social media, etc
has reduced the operational barriers, empowering the end users to become services provider
themselves. This empowerment has led to the creation of what is known as... Show more content on

An example would be Yahoo! Pipes, a platform that provides a GUI frontend for creating Web
based apps that aggregates web feeds, web pages. (Nikolaos amp; Vassilios amp; Konstantino,
2009). The necessity of such a platform boils down to two reasons. Firstly, it enables and
ensures interoperability between the various services. Therefore, the user needs not worry about
the compatibility of the services components in the service creation process. Secondly, it reduces
the complexity of creating new services for the user, who might have differing technical
capabilities, as the implementation details are encapsulated by the platform. C) End user as the
ultimate service value creator The main value proposition of user generated is that the end user
has the final say in creating the service, instead of being service consumers or co creator.
Correspondingly, the original service providers are reduced to a role of value co creator or
suppliers. This arrangement allows end users to customize the original service, thus enabling the
service to serve this group of end users which otherwise the original service would not have served

The Impact Of Climate Change On Rising Sea Levels
Research Paper
The Impact of Climate Change on Rising Sea Levels
Over the past century, changes in the climate have affected our sea levels. From global warming to
man made causes, these factors contribute into one of the most predictable catastrophic disasters.
While rising sea levels can lead to a flooding disaster, there are other consequences that are impacted
due to this component that can affect the whole planet.
Changes in the climate have been an on going critical issue that has been affecting the present time
and near future. One of the causes that has contributed to climate change and rising sea levels is
global warming. Global warming, the gradual heating of Earth s surface, oceans and atmosphere
(Bradford) has caused warmer temperatures, leading to a growth in earths average temperature.
Earth s average temperature has risen by 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit, over the past century, according to
the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (Bradford). Many might say that 1.4 degrees is quite
a small number, but the issue here isn t with the number of degrees is going up but rather with the
extra energy the earth is having to do it is causing those drastic changes in our weather.
As this continues to occur, not only is our atmosphere getting warmer but by doing so, so is our
water. And since our oceans water help absorb most of the excess heat our atmosphere creates,
when it absorbs too much heat (making the water warmer) it affects the lives of the animals

Elements Of Catholicism And Voodoo
A religion can be defined as a system of belief that manifest, to some degree, the following eight
elements: belief system, community, central myths, ritual, ethics, characteristic emotional
experience, material expression, and sacredness. Depending on the religion, some of these
elements may carry more weight than others. I will look at Catholicism and Voodoo and the role
some of these elements play within these systems of belief.
Catholicism is a monotheistic religion believing that God is the Creator of all that is. We must love
and serve God in our daily life, through prayer and good works, in order to achieve salvation. The
element of central myths plays a large role within the Catholic faith, as the Bible is the core of

Eucharist is when we receive the body and blood of Christ through the symbols of bread and
wine. It further extends the initiation that took place at baptism to enter fully into the heart of
Christian faith through participation in the Eucharist (catholic.org,2017). Confirmation is the
final step of initiation. It is receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit that unites us more firmly with
Christ and strengthens our bond with the Church. The remaining four Sacraments guide us
through the rest of our life. The Sacrament of Penance is received regularly to confess our sins
and seek forgiveness so that we may remain in God s grace. The Sacrament of Marriage takes
place when two people commit to spend the rest of their life together, anointing of the sick is
when a priest anoints a sick person with oil and offers prayers, and Holy Orders is the sacrament
that takes place with the ordination of a bishop, priest, or deacon into ministry (Molloy, M., 2010).
Voodoo is also a monotheistic religion that combines Catholic and African beliefs and is often
surrounded by many misconceptions. Voodoo has been portrayed by the media as a form of
devil worship and curses, with Voodoo dolls being used to inflict pain on one s enemies (ancient
origins.net). It is practiced primarily in Haiti, New Orleans, and the Caribbean. This religion is
several hundred years old, dating back to when African slaves were brought to America from Haiti.

Perfume Advert Analysis
For my perfume advertisement, Eternity, I have used numerous techniques to persuade the
audience to purchase this product. Firstly, I have used a well known couple for the main
background setup. Since these couples are close together, this makes the perfume more memorable
for consumers, as these famous subjects are used to promote the product. This also creates a
positive feeling about the company and the advertisement which is more influential, entertaining
and appealing to the audience. The couple is used as intimate and romantic connotations which is a
successful tactic in persuading the audience to purchase the perfume. In the advert, we can see a
man on the right hand side wearing a black shirt with a black shadow cast upon him to depict the
idea of the man not being too muscular or dominating the advert. The man s body language is
showing affection to the lady as his eyes are gazed low, followed by the gentle expression on his
face. This displays positive emotions towards the woman as he portrays a romantic relationship
by which the woman is adored. The lady on the other hand, has her right hand on the man s chest
followed by the elegant and feminine body posture. The woman s hair is open loose with
cosmetic makeup on her face. This shows that the lady wants to impress her man and are all signs
of affection. The message to the audience is too be attracted to your partner just like the ones used
for the advert by using Eternity as their fragrance.

Critical Analysis Of Killing The Bear By Judith Minty
The Analysis of Killing the Bear by Judith Minty Based on Reader Response Criticism The
important thing in the reader response theory is the interpretive of the readers itself, rather than
the author or even the text. The theory gives the competence to the reader to critic the text,
however with the condition the readers have the evidence or research from other people toward
the critic. The way of their interpretation may reveal their identity, because the reader gives the
critic depends on their knowledge and experience (Philip Goldstein, 2005). Everyone has their
own perspective toward anything, especially for the literary works. Each of people perspective is
unique. That is why reader response was created. The theory is about the transaction between the
writer and the reader. The writer composed a meaningful text, whereas the reader composed an
interpreted meaning of the text. Reader response is not about destroying the writer s idea, but it is
more constructing the work itself (Louise M. Rosenblatt, 1988). The theory usually used for the
basic of the analysis.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dinner, or comida (although its literal translation means meal it is referred to as the evening
meal in Cuba) is a dressy affair in most Cuban homes, regardless of the social status of the
family. Every day when the adults return from work and the children from school and playing
outside everyone comes home to bathe and dress in fresh clothes for dinner, which is served at
7:00 or 8:00 P.M. Some ladies dress in leisure yet fashionable clothes. In late nineteenth and early
twentieth centuries women wore batas, long white linen dresses, usually hand embroidered with
ruffles and lace down to their ankles. The food served for comida was generally lighter than that
served for almuerzo, but was nevertheless rather elaborate, consisting of three courses. Cubans
living in America nowadays don t generally distinguish much between dishes appropriate for
lunch and dinner. Most have adopted the American custom of having a single large meal in the
evening, at which any dish can be served. Meat is very popular in a Cuban s diet making beef a

My Career Story Interview, Jordan Scheller
The career I choose to do my Career Story Interview, which I m interested in doing, was Web
Developer. Technically, the person that I interview, Jordan Scheller, is officially a Software
Developer, but he creates/maintains websites which is what Web Developers do. So to be
completely clear, the career I will be investigating is Web Developer.
With that out of the way, let s talk about everything that has to do with a Web Developer. According
to a website called O*NET, the Strong Interest Inventory for this job is CIR, Conventional,
Investigative and Realistic. Conventional is ranked number one based on the nature to which
programming happens. In programming, you know where you start and where you end. You
might think you have a large amount of freedom to get to the endpoint, but in reality there only a
few, if not just one way of solving the problem. So in the job, it s the repetition of finding the
problem, identifying the end, and following the set path to which solves the problem.
Investigative is second on the list and this deals with the ever evolving principle of the job. Since
programming is relatively new, the area is evolving at an incredible pace and you must keep up
with it. You must learn the new information, master it, and then finish your project before anyone
else does. The final interest is Realistic and it relates to the atmosphere of the work environment.

Song et al. (2013) developed a practical model evaluate the environmental effectiveness of ITS
strategies by using data from PEMS. The models are developed through considering the influence
of the vehicle s operating mode (VSP distribution) on vehicle emissions, which not only guarantees
the accuracy of emissions and fuel consumption models, but also makes it possible to accumulate
current traffic information systems in Beijing. Wang et al. (2008) established a model based on
VSP and speed, which provided insight that how different levels of cruise speed and acceleration
affect vehicle fuel consumption. The model prediction shows that vehicle fuel consumption per
unit distance is optimum at speeds between 50 and 70 km/h which is similar to the observed data
from PEMS. This is evident in the literature that in order to improve both the applicability and
accuracy of the existing emission models instantaneous vehicle activity data are needed which can
be collected from the on board emission system like PEMS to consider all real conditions which
might induce the modeling errors and improve the model precisions.
In summary, the microscopic simulation modeling has provided an accurate and reliable
representation of vehicular operations in roadway networks so far in the literature. From the
literature we also found that, most of the vehicle emissions data used in modeling are collected in a
controlled laboratory environment or simulation based. With

Life Span Development and Personality
Abraham Maslow was born April 1, 1908 in Brooklyn, New York. Abraham Maslow grew up in
Brooklyn, New York, the first of seven children born to his Jewish parents who emigrated from
Russia. His parents were uneducated, but they insisted that he study law. Maslow later described
his early childhood as unhappy and lonely, and he spent much of his time in the library immersed
in books. At first, Abraham acceded to their wishes and enrolled in the City College of New York
(CCNY). However, after three semesters, he transferred to Cornell University then back to CCNY.

For example, in their extensive review of research that is dependent on Maslow s theory, Wabha
and Bridwell (1976) found little evidence for the ranking of needs that Maslow described, or
even for the existence of a definite hierarchy at all. Some have argued that Maslow was
unconsciously naive about elitist elements in his theories. As one critic poses, What real
individuals, living in what real societies, working at what real jobs, and earning what real income
have any chance at all of becoming self actualizers?
Some behaviorists believe that self actualization is a difficult concept for researchers to
operationalize, and this in turn makes it difficult to test Maslow s theory. Even if self actualization
is a useful concept, some contend that there is no proof that every individual has this capacity or
even the goal to achieve it. In 1967, Abraham Maslow was named humanist of the year by the
American Humanist Association. That same year he was elected president of the American
Psychological Association. Maslow played a major role in organizing both the Journal of
Humanistic Psychology and the Journal of Transpersonal Psychology. In 1969, Abraham Maslow,
Stanislav Grof and Anthony Sutich were the initiators behind the publication of the first issue of the
Journal of Transpersonal Psychology.

A Dying Love In Thomas Hardy s Neutral Tones
A Dying Love in Thomas Hardy s Neutral Tones
Love is a strange emotion and can make a person feel ten feet high or a low as a snail. When
most people write about love it is full of life and color; however, Thomas Hardy writes of death
in his experience with love in his poem, Neutral Tones. It is a dramatic monologue poem written in
the 1800s and is in first person. The title of the poem clearly points out the neutrality of a colorless
failing love. In addition, the poem focuses on describing the events of how the couple ends the
relationship and of how it is beyond repair. The lines of the poem gently explain what it is like for
the author to experience such a dying love. It is effectively written in a way that the reader can feel
the hurt and pain as Hardy explains the sorrow and bitterness as the lovers end the relationship. In
Neutral Tones, Thomas Hardy uses setting, imagery, and symbolism to illustrate the deathof love in
his poem.
The poem begins with the author setting the scene standing with his lover in the winter season. In
the first line of the poem Hardy says, We stood by a pond that winter day (1). This is an
important clue to prepare the reader that the poem is going to be about Hardy s relationship.
Hardy goes on to say in the third and fourth line, And a few leaves lay on the starving sod; / They
had fallen from an ash, and were gray (3 4). In these lines, Hardy uses the words starving, ash and
fallen leaves. These are dramatic words used to

The Role of Women in DoyleВґs A Scandal in Bohemia Essay
Doyle s A Scandal in Bohemia follows the story of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes on his
adventures to retrieve a disgraceful photograph of Irene Adler and the King of Bohemia. The king,
now engaged to a different woman, is fearful that Adler may use the photo as blackmail. In A
Scandal in Bohemia, the apparent role of women is minuscule. The only female emphasis is on one
woman, who is the object of Holmes detective inquiries. In A Scandal in Bohemia, society places
women at a subordinate level, pushing them to the background and therefore never allowing the
reader to fully understand their character. Watson describes women as second class citizens at the
start of the story without directly saying so. Watson comments: My own... Show more content on

The King also fears the revelation of the scandalous photograph simply because it lies in the hands
of a woman. His interests to dominate this woman, Irene Adler, are evident in the callous actions
the King directs towards her. The King states, Five attempts have been made. Twice burglars in
my pay ransacked her house. Once we diverted her luggage when she traveled. Twice she has
been waylaid. There has been no result (218). This disdain and oblivion towards Adler s privacy
leads one to reassess the King s motives. Is he actually interested in the photograph or do his
actions focus solely on hurting Irene Adler? The King wants the upper hand on this beautiful, yet
extremely intelligent woman. The King s attitude towards his future wife and his former lover,
Irene Adler, fits into society s narrowly defined roles of women. In British Victorian society,
women were the nurtures and the protectors of the children, and what some deemed as only
monetarily valuable items. This female instinct to nurture is one stereotype that is greatly reflected
in the personality of Irene Adler. Adler s willingness to help is a quality that Watson, as well as
other men in society, felt all women should possess. Watson acknowledges this nurturing tendency
when he says, but I know that I never felt more heartily ashamed of myself when I saw the

Cummings wanted to be a poet his whole life and wrote poetry daily from age eight to twenty two,
exploring many different assorted forms. When Cummings went to Harvard he developed an
interest in modern poetry which ignored conventional grammar and syntax, aiming for a
dynamic use of language. When Cummings graduated, he worked for a book dealer. Most
people would not capitalize his initials because of the way he would write his poems, without
any capital letters. Cummings was a very successful man in his time, writing over 2,500 poems,
two autobiographical novels, four plays and several essays, as well as numerous drawings and
paintings. He is known as one of the best poets in our history. In 1917, in the First World War
going on in Europe, Cummings enlisted in the Norton Harjes Ambulance Corps, along with his
college friend John Dos Passos. Cummings assignment got mixed up, resulting him being delayed
to deploy. Resulting in him having to stay in paris for five weeks. He fell in love with the city, to
which he would return throughout his life. After the war, Cummings returned to Paris in 1921 and

Sacred Themes In Groundhog Day
The first sacred theme in Groundhog Day is self improvement. After the discovery that Phil was
reliving the same day continually, his first response was confusion, followed by recklessness.
He was originally described as a glass half empty type of guy. Show video. Phil realizes that he is
in love with his female producer, Rita, so he learns everything about her in order to pretend he is
her ideal man. When that plan fails several times, Phil resorts to killing himself to end his
repetitive misery and lack of progression. Despite the several different ways of dying he tries, he
always wakes up whole.
Phil expresses his troubles to Rita and she stays with him for the night. However, he wakes up and
she is gone: it still Groundhog Day. Although, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rita eventually falls in love with the person he s become. She spends the night with him again but
this time he wakes up and she is still there, and it is no longer Groundhog Day.
Groundhog Day shows viewers a character who displays the negative qualities that many people
possess: essentially, showing the worst part of ourselves. Unlike us, the character is given the
opportunity to relive the same day until he gets it right. He gets to decide how to use each day.
Eventually, he undergoes a breakthrough which reveals a more authentic version of himself.
This theme relates to 1 Corinthians 10:13: No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to
man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the
temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Phil faces the temptations of being reckless, killing himself and taking advantage of the knowledge
he has. However, these temptations are common to many people. The passage states that God will
provide the way of escape. Phil had a breakthrough and, essentially, was given the escape of his
circumstances: becoming a better

The Warming Of The Climate System
Q 1. How do we Know climate system is warming?
Warming of the climate system is unequivocal. Since 1950 s many of the observed changes are
unprecedented over decades to millennia. The atmosphere and ocean have warmed, the amounts of
snow and ice have diminished, and sea level has risen. Additionally most of these climate changes
are due to very small variations in Earth s orbit that change the amount of solar energy our planet
receives. Earth orbiting satellites and other technological advances have enabled scientists to see
the big picture, collecting many different types of information about our planet and its climate on
a global scale. This body of data, collected over many years, reveals the signals of a changing
climate. The signal of climate change include rise of sea level, surface temperature rise ,glacier
retreats, shrinking ice sheets, warming of ocean ,declining artic sea ice ,increase in Antarctic sea
ice ,increase in extreme events ,decrease in the amount of snow of snow and ice ,increase in
concentration of CHGS.Each indicator described below has been extensively studied over the past
several decades, and was captured from many different data sets and technologies.

During my first semester at college I have had the privileged to be your student. I learned quite a
lot about writing and I hope to fully explain that in this letter. The portfolio that I put together
really showcases who my writing skills have improved. It shows the subjects that I struggled with
and worked on until I understood what I was doing wrong. The first time I did the grammar
exercises I felt dumbfounded by how I had spent four years taking high school english but could
barely complete the exercises. As time went on I really started to understand the rules behind the
way pronouns and their antecedents work which helped improve my writing. The first of the two

The first revision I did was to my first paper. That paper was a process essay in which I wrote
about how to choose the perfect watch. I decided to revise this essay because I could see how
obvious of errors I made with it being my first essay. I decided to reword and rearrange the first
paragraph quite a bit because it sounded too choppy. I also trimmed down any excess words and
sentences that seemed like the did not belong. I added more examples and also tried to explain
why a person should wear a watch. In my first draft I mostly explained the process of picking out
a watch but now I introduced why one would want to wear a watch. I said The watch is an
irreplaceable tool in terms of efficiency when trying to know the time or track the elapsed time
of an event. in my essay to try and explain why one would want to wear a watch. The second
revision I did was to my second paper I wrote. It was a cause and effect essay about the rise in
obesity in America. The main revision I did to this paper was I added a lot more cause and effect
terminology into my arguments. One specific quote from the paper is This attitude shift is
stagnating Americans, as a result, America is seeing a rise in obesity. This quote really drives
home what I was trying to prove with my essay using effective terminology for cause and effect
essays. Throughout my time taking this course I learned

Flatrock Case Analysis
Analysis
Culture The overall, desired culture of Flatrock is bottom line oriented and values cost reduction
and improved production levels. To maintain this culture, bonuses are tied to employee s ability to
produce more while lowering costs.
Structure
Flatrock s functional organizational structure includes two categories: field logistics and category
management. Field logistics deals with daily operations and are therefore more concerned with short
term tangible results, such as employee satisfaction. Their subculture is emotional and dictatorial.
Rusty Clyne is described as an individual who [wears] his emotions on his sleeve and often imposes
punishment. Consequently, the decision making process is based on emotion, not logic, which, ...

Clyne s lack of accountability is exhibited by his fondness of deferring blame onto others.
Likewise, Clyne is passionate about his job, however, this leads to unwarranted drive and therefore
emotion based decision making. Clyne also has too much courage as seen in his determination to
gain inside information on Tower, such as hiring Bakes, to allow for greater profit sharing. The
bottom line oriented culture and his misjudgement of equity compound his tenaciousness to
increase revenue, however, his stubbornness, along with his extreme drive, results in Clyne being
unable to use proper judgement. The lack of judgement augments Clyne s inability to appreciate
Tower s long term benefits, which subsequently widens the gap between field logistics and the
desired culture of Flatrock and makes intergroup coordination more

Examples Of Mental Illness In Catcher In The Rye
Mental illnesses can take over a persons life altering what a healthy human would decide as a
better choice. In the classic, The Catcher in the Rye, by JD Salinger, Holden is a boy who has a
mental illness and is trying to run from his past. Throughout his personal journey he has trouble
interacting with the people he encounters, wether it be his family or a complete stranger. Though
his language is not always appropriate, at Holden s core he is moral and innocent like the
children he wants to protect and makes choices to help people end up in a better place than him.
When thinking of innocence, children are usually what come to mind. Holden always seems
immature or kiddish but he s always respectful to others. Boy I said. I also say

Unlocking Youth Detention
Education and Training Key to Unlocking Youth Detention Crisis
Australia s juvenile detention system is breaking apart. It s time we started seeing our wayward
youth as young people needing support and rehabilitation rather than merely callous criminals to be
punitively punished, degraded and demeaned writes Anna Tran.
A child is beaten and bashed, bruised and battered to the point where he can no longer stand on his
own. It gets worse, much worse. He is teargassed and stripped, hooded and strapped into a
restraining chair. The scene could come straight out of Abu Ghraib Prisonor Guantanamo Bay; in
fact it comes out of our very own youth detention centres on Australian soil.
The world was shocked and Australians shamed when scenes like these were recently broadcast
from the Don Dale Youth Detention Centre in Darwin. Young Australians, under the care of the
State, have been systematically abused, demeaned and degraded in the very institutions built to re
educate and rehabilitate so that they will not reoffend. It s time we took responsibility for our
young offenders and provided them with the knowledge and positive life skills to make it on the
outside.

per year or $301.60 each day to keep a juvenile in punitive punishment. While this seems like a
large sum of money, providing them with an education will stop the cycle of crime and therefore

Incidence Rate Of Skin Cancer
Abstract: Incidence rate of skin cancer are increasing day by day. Skin cancer is one of the deadliest
forms of cancer but detected earlier can save the life time of the human being. An automated
screening system is introduced to identify the presence of skin cancer in advance. In this paper,
texture distinctiveness lesion segmentation algorithm is used. Experience and training based
characteristics of back propagation neural network is used with texture distinctiveness lesion
segmentation algorithm, for identifying the normal and abnormal portions of skin. The most
commonly occurring skin cancers are Melanoma, Basal and squamous cell carcinomaand actinic
keratosis. The proposed system is to diagnose the presence of these skin cancers with high
segmentation accuracy.
Keywords: Melanoma, segmentation, skin cancer, texture, neural network.

Chapter 14-17 Of A Lot Of Stuff Goes Down ! By Gabriel...
During chapters 14 17 of Gabriel Garcia Marquez s novel, a lot of stuff goes down! Chapter 14
shows us the relationship between Meme and Mauricio Babilonia, whom later have a child,
Aureliano (II). Chapter 15 shows us the most climatic part of the novel, with the banana massacre.
Next, chapter 16 shows us five years of continuous rain in Macondo, which vastly damages the city.
Finally, chapter 17 shows us the deaths of many prominent characters such as Ursula, JosГ©
Arcadio Segundo, and Aureliano Segundo. Indeed, these chapters have a lot going on in them, but
the focus of this analysis revolves around the brutality of the banana massacre. I will assess the
scene that occured, analyze the narrative techniques used in the scene, and compare it to Latin
American history and politics. Therefore, the banana massacre was a turning point in the story
which dictates the future direction of the plot.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

minute and stick it up your ass! (Marquez 305). This prompts the captain to order his troops to
fire their machine guns and take down the protestors. In the process, all of the workers are killed

  • 2. Urban Zoning Is Convenient, It Has Negative Impacts On The... Imagine waking up in your apartment and walking down the street to your job. Later in the day, you take a lunch break, and you walk from your office to your favorite restaurant a few blocks down. Eventually, you get off work, and you head to the local grocery store just three doors down from your apartment. You pick up dinner, and you plan a nice relaxing night in your apartment. The night passes, and you do it all over again the next day. For a small percentage of America, this is a realty. However, for many Americans, this is unprecedented. Since the 1940 s, the majority of the U.S. cities and towns have moved to drivable sub urban zoning. Meaning housing districts are usually more than a few miles from work, the closest restaurant, or grocery store. This results in driving almost everywhere. Although drivable sub urbanism is convenient, it has negative impacts on the environment. Therefore, the United States must make the conversion back to walkable urbanism zoning because drivable sub urbanism is having detrimental effects on our environment s land, air, water, and climate. Before the 1940 s, the majority of the United States cities were zoned into walkable urbanism. In Christopher Leinberger s book, The option of Urbanism, he describes walkable urbanism as the following, [In walkable urbanism] you could satisfy most everyday needs, such as school, shopping, parks, friends, and even employment, within walking distance or transit of one s home, (Leinberger 3). There are 3 stars that form the belt, their names are: Mintaka, Alnilam, Alnitak, which comes from Arabic. In the myth, Hera, the wife of Zeus sent a scorpion to kill Orion. The belt is a system of stars that have sibling stars that orbit around it. Each star is potentially bright. The star Mintaka is super giant star that is 1,000 light years away. The star is also 10,000 times brighter than our son. With it being the western most star of the belt, it is 60,000 degrees Celsius. The star Alnilam, the middle star, is also a super giant. In today s day and age of our American judicial system, most would agree our judges are overworked. The federal judges of the court system handle a vast number of court cases each year in the United States. It has become directionally proportional between the growing populations, the increase in crime, in turn leading to more cases. There should be a dramatic addition of judges within the federal court system to lower the workload of the justices. From the signing of the U.S. Constitution under Article III, our founding fathers put power into our third branch of the government. The federal court system was new but becoming organized. It was designed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There have many articles, journals and comments made and debated about the current crisis of the federal court caseload. It would be nice to get some help. We are pedaling as fast as we can on an increasingly rickety bicycle. М¶ Chief Judge Fred Biery To enable the Judiciary to continue serving litigants efficiently and effectively, the judicial workforce must be expanded. М¶ Judicial Conference It has been an ongoing struggle for the courts to keep up with the workload. The fact that there has been talk and discussion about resolutions; this may be the first step to resolving the problem. In the beginning days of our judicial system, as said before, a judge s caseload seemed to be reasonable. It was not until the last few decades where the workload skyrocketed. In civil cases alone from the 1940s through the mid 1990s, the caseload increased nearly 580 percent. To emphasize the point, bankruptcy cases within the same time frame had increased over 1500 percent. There is no question that the ratio between cases and judges has become overwhelming. During the 1940s the comparisons between civil and criminal cases filed were parallel. However in the next few decades, civil cases rose slightly over the criminal, but then another issue began. Even though with fast growing civil filings, the criminal cases were prone to take much more time throughout ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Virginia Woolf The Moth The Death of the Moth by Virginia Woolf Death is a difficult subject for anyone to speak of, although it is a part of everyday life. In Virginia Woolf s The Death of the Moth , she writes about a moth flying about a windowpane, its world constrained by the boundaries of the wood holding the glass. The moth flew, first from one side, to the other, and then back as the rest of life continued ignorant of its movements. At first indifferent, Woolf was eventually moved to pity the moth. This story shows that life is as strange and familiar as death to us all. I believe this story was well written and will critique the symbolism, characters, and the setting. Woolf uses symbolism in her essay when she speaks of the moth and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This symbolism Woolf applies to everyday human life, making us understand that death will all happen to us one day, when it is our time. There is no escaping death when it comes for us. The character of the moth and the way that Woolf s story unfolds makes you, as a reader, feel as if you are there actually watching the moth die. Her descriptions of the moth s flight and the struggle against death as he lived his life that day involves you in the mourning of someone or something you love dying. You feel every movement that Woolf saw in the moth s life that day by reading this essay. As Woolf describes how the moth flew vigorously to one corner of his compartment, and after waiting there a second, flew across to the other, you can feel the moth s movements (1178). In Woolf s essay, the battle between life and death is somehow seen as both pathetic and noble. Pathetic because death will always win regardless the desire for life; but noble in how one faces death on our back, defeated, or on our feet, and in dignity. Woolf states one could only watch the extraordinary efforts made by those tiny legs against an oncoming doom which could, had it chosen, have submerged an entire city, not merely a city, but masses of human beings; nothing, I knew, had any chance against death and shows the moth s courageous journey into death (1179). Mr. Keating s leadership style is supportive because he shows concern for his students well being and needs. The students know that Mr. Nolan has the power to kick them out, call their parents, and even punish them with a couple smacks on the rear end with a wooden paddle. • 9. The Human Race Progress Without Communication How much would the human race progress without communication? The procedure of communication has been vital to any growth or development made by humans over the years. From humanity s beginnings as cavemen, with no formal communication system, to modern days, when people can seemingly communicate with anyone, anywhere, it has always been very important. Communicationis a series of processes involving certain key elements and the relationship between them, allowing people to form and interpret messages, states Christopher L. Johnstone s text book The Art of the Speaker. According to The Art of the Speaker, the communication process starts with the sender, who generates the message. The Communication Model document defines the sender as the one who is responsible for creating or generating the communication. The Art of the Speaker claims that when something arises as a thing to be communicated, it then becomes the subject matter of the message. A message is a structured set of behaviors or actions. For example, the sender may want to communicate the message that he is in favor of gay marriage. The Johnstone text says that the message contains both conscious thoughts, or cognitive meanings, and often unconscious feelings, or emotional meanings. Next in the process, the sender must choose to communicate cognitive meanings through symbols, defined by the Communication Model document as behaviors performed more or less consciously and voluntarily to represent experiences ... Also Robinson adds Some experts believe deciding to limit the death penalty will no longer make it a potential deterrent to criminals (Robinson par. 24). If the death penalty is restricted then there is no hope of it having an effect on the population a little as time passes. Robinsons also wrote about how the death penalty should be used: More discriminate use of the death penalty reserving its use for only highly aggravated crimes, the worst of the worst will lessen the risk of flawed convictions and sentences and ensure that those who really deserve to be on death row will be executed. [There shouldn t be restriction to the death penalty because] ... the capital punishment system will remain flawed and it is more likely that less deserving or innocent prisoners will be convicted and put on death row. (Robinson par. 7) In life there is always going to be something that is flawed with the death penalty. The reason being is because of human error. Human error happens a lot and sometimes it ... I strongly agree with the importance of this doctrine. It allows constitutional laws to uphold the disclosure of information without violating one s due process right. This piece of philosophical evidence grants reasonable probability to be permissible in a court of law which might exonerate a defendant. The Brady doctrine is a pretrial discovery rule that was established by the United States Supreme Court in Brady v. Maryland in 1963 in favor of a defendant (Hall, 2015). Her works mostly present a theme of women pursue freedom and equality. The Story Of An Hourand The Awakening are her representative works. In these two works, Kate Chopinreveals how women lived under the oppression of male dominated society, especially for women who got married. They were not financially independent and their freedom and rights were deprived. Therefore female were forced to be an angle in the home . When she heard the news, she did not hear the story as many women have heard the same, with a paralyzed inability to accept its significance. She wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment, in her sister s arms (Pg 93). She did not cry out immediately, she seems shocked for a while and suddenly break out. A main assumption made by this school of thought is that all aspect of services, from creation to delivery process, is the domain of the service providers. However, the emergence of disruptive technologies such as the internet, social media, etc has reduced the operational barriers, empowering the end users to become services provider themselves. Therefore, the user needs not worry about the compatibility of the services components in the service creation process. Secondly, it reduces the complexity of creating new services for the user, who might have differing technical capabilities, as the implementation details are encapsulated by the platform. C) End user as the ultimate service value creator The main value proposition of user generated is that the end user has the final say in creating the service, instead of being service consumers or co creator. Correspondingly, the original service providers are reduced to a role of value co creator or suppliers. This arrangement allows end users to customize the original service, thus enabling the service to serve this group of end users which otherwise the original service would not have served 3. From global warming to man made causes, these factors contribute into one of the most predictable catastrophic disasters. While rising sea levels can lead to a flooding disaster, there are other consequences that are impacted due to this component that can affect the whole planet. Changes in the climate have been an on going critical issue that has been affecting the present time and near future. One of the causes that has contributed to climate change and rising sea levels is global warming. Global warming, the gradual heating of Earth s surface, oceans and atmosphere (Bradford) has caused warmer temperatures, leading to a growth in earths average temperature. Earth s average temperature has risen by 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit, over the past century, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (Bradford). Many might say that 1.4 degrees is quite a small number, but the issue here isn t with the number of degrees is going up but rather with the extra energy the earth is having to do it is causing those drastic changes in our weather. As this continues to occur, not only is our atmosphere getting warmer but by doing so, so is our water. And since our oceans water help absorb most of the excess heat our atmosphere creates, when it absorbs too much heat (making the water warmer) it affects the lives of the animals ... Elements Of Catholicism And Voodoo A religion can be defined as a system of belief that manifest, to some degree, the following eight elements: belief system, community, central myths, ritual, ethics, characteristic emotional experience, material expression, and sacredness. Depending on the religion, some of these elements may carry more weight than others. I will look at Catholicism and Voodoo and the role some of these elements play within these systems of belief. Catholicism is a monotheistic religion believing that God is the Creator of all that is. We must love and serve God in our daily life, through prayer and good works, in order to achieve salvation. The element of central myths plays a large role within the Catholic faith, as the Bible is the core of Catholic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eucharist is when we receive the body and blood of Christ through the symbols of bread and wine. It further extends the initiation that took place at baptism to enter fully into the heart of Christian faith through participation in the Eucharist (catholic.org,2017). Confirmation is the final step of initiation. It is receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit that unites us more firmly with Christ and strengthens our bond with the Church. The remaining four Sacraments guide us through the rest of our life. The Sacrament of Penance is received regularly to confess our sins and seek forgiveness so that we may remain in God s grace. The Sacrament of Marriage takes place when two people commit to spend the rest of their life together, anointing of the sick is when a priest anoints a sick person with oil and offers prayers, and Holy Orders is the sacrament that takes place with the ordination of a bishop, priest, or deacon into ministry (Molloy, M., 2010). Firstly, I have used a well known couple for the main background setup. This also creates a positive feeling about the company and the advertisement which is more influential, entertaining and appealing to the audience. The couple is used as intimate and romantic connotations which is a successful tactic in persuading the audience to purchase the perfume. In the advert, we can see a man on the right hand side wearing a black shirt with a black shadow cast upon him to depict the idea of the man not being too muscular or dominating the advert. The man s body language is showing affection to the lady as his eyes are gazed low, followed by the gentle expression on his face. This displays positive emotions towards the woman as he portrays a romantic relationship by which the woman is adored. The lady on the other hand, has her right hand on the man s chest followed by the elegant and feminine body posture. The woman s hair is open loose with cosmetic makeup on her face. Critical Analysis Of Killing The Bear By Judith Minty The Analysis of Killing the Bear by Judith Minty Based on Reader Response Criticism The important thing in the reader response theory is the interpretive of the readers itself, rather than the author or even the text. The way of their interpretation may reveal their identity, because the reader gives the critic depends on their knowledge and experience (Philip Goldstein, 2005). Investigative is second on the list and this deals with the ever evolving principle of the job. Since programming is relatively new, the area is evolving at an incredible pace and you must keep up with it. (2013) developed a practical model evaluate the environmental effectiveness of ITS strategies by using data from PEMS. The models are developed through considering the influence of the vehicle s operating mode (VSP distribution) on vehicle emissions, which not only guarantees the accuracy of emissions and fuel consumption models, but also makes it possible to accumulate current traffic information systems in Beijing. Wang et al. (2008) established a model based on VSP and speed, which provided insight that how different levels of cruise speed and acceleration affect vehicle fuel consumption. The model prediction shows that vehicle fuel consumption per unit distance is optimum at speeds between 50 and 70 km/h which is similar to the observed data from PEMS. This is evident in the literature that in order to improve both the applicability and accuracy of the existing emission models instantaneous vehicle activity data are needed which can be collected from the on board emission system like PEMS to consider all real conditions which might induce the modeling errors and improve the model precisions. In summary, the microscopic simulation modeling has provided an accurate and reliable representation of vehicular operations in roadway networks so far in the literature. It is a dramatic monologue poem written in the 1800s and is in first person. The title of the poem clearly points out the neutrality of a colorless failing love. In addition, the poem focuses on describing the events of how the couple ends the relationship and of how it is beyond repair. The lines of the poem gently explain what it is like for the author to experience such a dying love. It is effectively written in a way that the reader can feel the hurt and pain as Hardy explains the sorrow and bitterness as the lovers end the relationship. In Neutral Tones, Thomas Hardy uses setting, imagery, and symbolism to illustrate the deathof love in his poem. The poem begins with the author setting the scene standing with his lover in the winter season. In the first line of the poem Hardy says, We stood by a pond that winter day (1). This is an important clue to prepare the reader that the poem is going to be about Hardy s relationship. Hardy goes on to say in the third and fourth line, And a few leaves lay on the starving sod; / They had fallen from an ash, and were gray (3 4). In these lines, Hardy uses the words starving, ash and fallen leaves. These are dramatic words used to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Role of Women in DoyleВґs A Scandal in Bohemia Essay Doyle s A Scandal in Bohemia follows the story of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes on his adventures to retrieve a disgraceful photograph of Irene Adler and the King of Bohemia. The king, now engaged to a different woman, is fearful that Adler may use the photo as blackmail. In A Scandal in Bohemia, the apparent role of women is minuscule. The only female emphasis is on one woman, who is the object of Holmes detective inquiries. In A Scandal in Bohemia, society places women at a subordinate level, pushing them to the background and therefore never allowing the reader to fully understand their character. Watson describes women as second class citizens at the start of the story without directly saying so. Watson comments: My own... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The King also fears the revelation of the scandalous photograph simply because it lies in the hands of a woman. His interests to dominate this woman, Irene Adler, are evident in the callous actions the King directs towards her. The King states, Five attempts have been made. Twice burglars in my pay ransacked her house. Once we diverted her luggage when she traveled. Twice she has been waylaid. There has been no result (218). This disdain and oblivion towards Adler s privacy leads one to reassess the King s motives. Is he actually interested in the photograph or do his actions focus solely on hurting Irene Adler? The King wants the upper hand on this beautiful, yet extremely intelligent woman. The King s attitude towards his future wife and his former lover, Irene Adler, fits into society s narrowly defined roles of women. In British Victorian society, women were the nurtures and the protectors of the children, and what some deemed as only monetarily valuable items. This female instinct to nurture is one stereotype that is greatly reflected in the personality of Irene Adler. Adler s willingness to help is a quality that Watson, as well as other men in society, felt all women should possess. Watson acknowledges this nurturing tendency when he says, but I know that I never felt more heartily ashamed of myself when I saw the beautiful creature against which I was conspiring, or the grace and kindliness with which she ... Since 1950 s many of the observed changes are unprecedented over decades to millennia. The atmosphere and ocean have warmed, the amounts of snow and ice have diminished, and sea level has risen. Additionally most of these climate changes are due to very small variations in Earth s orbit that change the amount of solar energy our planet receives. Earth orbiting satellites and other technological advances have enabled scientists to see the big picture, collecting many different types of information about our planet and its climate on a global scale. This body of data, collected over many years, reveals the signals of a changing climate. To maintain this culture, bonuses are tied to employee s ability to produce more while lowering costs. Field logistics deals with daily operations and are therefore more concerned with short term tangible results, such as employee satisfaction. Their subculture is emotional and dictatorial. The bottom line oriented culture and his misjudgement of equity compound his tenaciousness to increase revenue, however, his stubbornness, along with his extreme drive, results in Clyne being unable to use proper judgement. It s time we started seeing our wayward youth as young people needing support and rehabilitation rather than merely callous criminals to be punitively punished, degraded and demeaned writes Anna Tran. A child is beaten and bashed, bruised and battered to the point where he can no longer stand on his own. It gets worse, much worse. He is teargassed and stripped, hooded and strapped into a restraining chair. The scene could come straight out of Abu Ghraib Prisonor Guantanamo Bay; in fact it comes out of our very own youth detention centres on Australian soil. The world was shocked and Australians shamed when scenes like these were recently broadcast from the Don Dale Youth Detention Centre in Darwin. Young Australians, under the care of the State, have been systematically abused, demeaned and degraded in the very institutions built to re educate and rehabilitate so that they will not reoffend.
