Washington In Frederick Douglass The Heroic Slave
In Frederick Douglass The Heroic Slave, readers are first introduced to Madison Washington, an
enslaved black man, through the perspective of the narrator, Mr. Listwell, a white, northern traveller. It
is through this description of his physical features that we are able to catch a glimpse of Washington s
personality one which defies and breaks stereotypes of black men in the nineteenth century. The first
thing one notices about the manner in which Washington is described is the use of contradictory, yet
complementary, descriptors. Listwell says Washington is of manly form, showing Herculean strength.
It is also said that a child might play in his arms, or dance on his shoulders and that his broad mouth
and nose spoke only of good nature and kindness. One other specific phrase that stands out is his face
was black, but comely. This is, in its original biblical usage, a phrase used to describe a woman
namely, her attractiveness though here, it s being used to describe a man. The fact that a white man is
depicting a man, especially a black one, as attractive, despite his blackness, is pretty noteworthy (this

The use of these animal like comparisons was normally used in a degrading manner, in an attempt to
make black folks seem inhuman, but here that is not the case. Washington is compared to a lion and a
raven; a lion typically represents strength and courage, and a raven symbolizes wit. Ravens, like
Washington, are also dark in appearance, though this does not stop them from being intelligent or
having other positive characteristics, just as Washington s dark skin does not deter him from
possessing positive traits like bravery, intelligence, or strength. It is these comparisons that break the
harmful period typical stereotypes of black men. Douglass takes a damaging way of viewing African
Americans and turns it into a positive and uplifting

Mythology Research of Egyptian God Amun-Re Essay
Amun Re is often referred to as the most important and powerful god of Ancient Egypt. Amun Re was
the god of the sun. Amun Re is the main name of the sun god, but also has three different names in
which describe the phases of life that Amun Re goes through each day. (Budge, Pg. 92) When
examining the ancient Egyptian god Amun Re, four main points must be understood, including: the
origin of Amun Re, the characteristics of Amun Re, how Amun Re was worshiped, and how Amun Re
impacted Egyptian life. First, is the discussion of the origin of Amun Re. Re, is an ancient Egyptian
solar deity (also spelled Ra ). Re s association with the sun meant that he was understood to be an
important force in the creation of the world, and Re s daily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The last role of Amun Re was Re as the creator. Egyptians believed that Re would weep and when he
did so his tears would then turn to men. Re is also seen to be the creator of the seasons, months, plants,
and animals. This falls back to the fact that Re is the sun, and the sun signifies life and growth,
allowing all things to grow through life. Second, I will be discussing the characteristics of Amun Re.
Re is depicted as a man with a hawk head and a headdress with a large sun disk. The sun disk on his
headdress is to reference his continuous power and control of the sun. The Egyptians were not
senseless; they did not think that a man or chariot raced across the sky dragging the sun to its resting
point.
Egyptians needed a way to understand the phenomenon of the sun due to their lack of scientific
knowledge. They tended to use animals to describe certain characteristics of a god. This was
especially the case with the ones they cannot see. Thebes celebrated a different major god Amun, the
Hidden One with powers so great he could not be visualized, yet because he had to be represented in
some way in order to pay him homage, he was depicted as a man with a tall ostrich plume crown.
(Brier, Pg. 36). Third, I will be discussing how Amun Re was worshiped in ancient Egypt. Amun Re is
seen in five ways, first, as a man, this is when he is seen on the throne as a king, holding a scepter in
one hand and the symbol of life in the other. In

Lois Prunesworth s Argumentative Essay
Lois Prunesworth hated technology with the firiest of passions. Everywhere she looked, young people
were always on their phones and computers, paying more attention to how many friends they had on
social media than how many friends they had in the real world. She found it absolutely deplorable.
Wherever she went, she always made certain that anyone 40 years younger than her knew that she did
not approve of whatever electronic device was on their person. While she was waiting in line at the
supermarket, she made sure to tell the girl texting in front of her that, when she was a girl as young as
she was, she had to walk 2 miles, backwards, uphill, through the snow in order to socialize with any of
her friends. When she took her dog, Fifi, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

From the Nobel Prize website itself, the passage describes briefly and clearly elaborates on Albert
Camus, mostly in the focus of his career, writing and otherwise his involvement in theatre. The main
purpose of this piece is to inform people who are interested in the Nobel Prize selection and in Camus
himself about him, providing a short synopsis on his background and his movement in his career from
political journalism to writing essays, stories, and furthermore novels. Growing up, Camus expressed
a deep interest to philosophy, which later prevailed in all of his publications as well as his Algerian
upbringing. Although his fascinations to the mind and thought were definitely present, he was unable
to attend university for philosophy; however, luck struck him when he was able to begin working as a
columnist and later dabbled in theatre. In many of his works, he utilized the notion of absurdum and
absence, seen heavily in The Myth of Sisyphus and further elaborated upon in the main character of
Meursault in The Stranger. By gathering the pieces that occurred in Camus s life, it becomes clearer as
to why he wrote the story the way it is and what it means, to him and to others.

Pros And Cons Of The Railway Labor Act
1. The Railway Labor Act is a law enacted by the federal government to ensure that key movement of
goods and services are not interrupted by worker / employer labor disputes. It would keep the flow of
goods and services going by ensuring that instead of strikes there would be arbitration and mediation
to resolve any labor disputes. The Railway Labor Act can strike only over major issues but only after
they have exhausted the arbitration and mediation process or the federal court could involve
themselves under the Norris LaGuardia Act. If the workers did strike they would not lose their jobs or

The location and geography of the country has caused the people to experience famine after famine,
leaving many to die from starvation. A famine is in definition, A great shortage or an extreme scarcity
of food over an extended period of time (Webster). There are several different types of famine that
occur in different types of the world. The type that Ethiopia generally goes through is called a
Ravallion. During a Ravallion famine, there are unusually large amounts of causalities with extreme
shortages of food in certain parts of the population. There are many things that cause famine, whether
it s draught, plague, or civil disrupt. Right now, Ethiopia is experiencing a draught that has killed
almost all of their crops. Because of the famines that Ethiopia experiences most every year, there is
usually an increase in the amount of people malnourished. This year, 11to 14 million people are
expected to go hungry leaving many to starve to death. Ethiopia has experienced many draughts like
these, the worst however, being in 1983. This draught lasted two years and the draught alone killed

The Wanderer And The Wife s Lament
For the Anglo Saxons, the world was a wind swept place, cold and hostile. Not only did they face the
constant threat of belligerent bands of warriors sweeping across the horizon, but the elements
themselves buffeted their homes and wore away the hulls of their ships. While temporary safety could
be found in the warmth of the mead hall and the companionship of others, the devastation of war,
disease, and time would slowly etch away at even the most stable and peaceful society. This unease
spurred Anglo Saxon poets to write some of their most beautiful, haunting pieces of verse, like
Hrothgar s Sermon from Beowulf and the Elegies. While the poems The Wanderer and The Wife s
Lament chronicle the suffering and eventual demise of the individual, The Ruin describes the
crumbling remains of a once glorious city. Through the extensive use of imagery, compelling rhythm,
and a stately meter, the poet of The Ruin emphasizes the themes of death, decay, and the inevitable
downfall of mighty civilizations messages further underscored by the loss of major sections of the
poem itself. The poet begins with the foundation of the city walls, all that remains of a mighty
structure which had ...seen one kingdom after another / stood in the storm, steep and tall, then tumbled
(The Ruin poet 10b 11). However, the destruction of this city is not due to these many regimes or
human combatants, but by the forces of nature as commanded by wyrd. Significantly, the poet

Tomato Plant
TOMATO PLANT 1)
Seed: Tomato seeds are small, flat and disk shaped and about 1/8 inch wide. They contain two energy
storage organs called cotyledons and an embryo encased in a hard outer shell called the seed coat. The
seed is the dormant or resting stage of the plant life cycle. When young tomato plants are damaged,
they tend to go into a dormant, survival stage in which plant growth is delayed for a while. Frost
damage is something to look out for when planting tomatoes early on in the season. Frost damage is
marked by tender, dark green spots on the leaves. Although they won t kill the plant, frostbites will
make them dormant for a while, delaying plant growth. During the germination process, the seed
absorbs moisture and nutrients ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have their own definite shape and arrangement in plants according to their requirements. Leaves
trap energy from sunlight and convert it into pure compounds. For this the leaves are arranged on the
stem in a way that they are exposed mostly in the sunlight. i) Leaves help in the process of plant
cellular respiration. Plant cellular respiration carried out in the daylight is called photorespiration, or
light respiration. The plant uses a portion of the oxygen created by photosynthesis. Since the process
of photosynthesis produces more oxygen than the plant can use, the excess is released into the air
through the stomata, tiny air holes in the leaves. The plant takes its sugars directly from what is being
produced by photosynthesis. 5) Food Making: j) Photosynthesis: the process of producing and
releasing oxygen in the air. Photosynthesis is performed by the plants to produce their own food. The
process of Photosynthesis requires direct sunlight, carbon dioxide and water (H2O). In the process of
Photosynthesis, the plants decompose the molecules of hydrogen and carbon dioxide into hydrogen,
carbon and oxygen to produce glucose which forms the source of their energy, growth and food. This
involves the conversion of stored energy of the sunlight, water and carbon dioxide into glucose which
is an organic compound and release oxygen in the process. k) Importance of photosynthesis: Plants are
the only living things that produce their own food.

Prayer In Public School Vs. Private Schools And Public...
Prayer in school is a controversial topic of today s time. There are different pros and cons when it
comes to bringing religion into schools. Varying from state to state the court s perspective has played a
major role in the decision of having prayer in schools, as well as the opinions of society.
Understanding that your personal opinion is not the same as everyone else s is important and others
may have different point of views. The controversial topics that give examples for each position
allows you to realize whether you agree or disagree. You could start out with a set opinion about it, but
after reading the different sides and stories it may change your mind. There is a difference in public
schools and private schools that practice prayer in school. If you sign your child up for a private
school and the handbook states that they allow prayer in school, then you cannot later go against it.
Public schools, on the other hand work for the government so anything they say goes. Private schools
are allowed more freedom and less restriction on prayer in school. The students in a private school pay
tuition, which funds the school. Private schools are known as independent schools, which means they
are non governmental and not administered by local, state or national government. Students are
allowed more freedom of religion and allowed to express their religious beliefs more openly(Prayer in

This idea of risk has warlike connotations, a theme which is echoed throughout the article. For
example, in the first paragraph, Amelia Gentleman reports that the girls choice of clothing could result
in conflict with the law , and could seriously damage their academic future . The noun conflict and
forceful verb damage emphasis the seriousness of the issue and causes the reader to empathise with
the twins. The writer attempts to place the reader in the girls shoes by giving their personal
experiences. The article begins with a very personal account of how an ordinary choice could result in
much more than a fashion disaster but rather a question of life and death. For example, the lives of two
French journalists are in danger of being killed by the Army of Iraq unless the legislation is revoked.
The lexis used in the article is emotive, such as the noun abuse and adjectives frustrated and
threatening . These appeal to the readers emotions. The pre modification of words such as radicalism

vocabulary is quite sophisticated, as expected due to the type of newspaper and is from a war semantic

They stated that they all went to the beach and eventually dropped Holloway back off at the Holiday

Kalpoe car never went to the hotel (Joran van der Sloot Biography, 2016).
The two Kalpoe brothers then changed their story and told authorities that Holloway made them leave

Periodontitis Cigarette Smoking
Cigarette smoking not only has a negative effect on respiratory and cardiovascular health, but also has
been associated with diabetes, gastrointestinal and thyroid diseases, and almost every other organ
system in the body (Johnson Guthmiller, 2007). Linked to various cancers, smoking is extremely
detrimental (Johnson Guthmiller, 2007). Smoking is also the major risk factor for periodontitis
(Preshaw et al, 2015). While increasing the prevalence of periodontitis, smoking also has a profound
effect on the severity of periodontal disease in individuals (Preshaw et al, 2015). The third National
Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) in 2000 found that 41.9% of periodontitis
cases in the United States were attributable to current cigarette smoking (Tomar Asma, 2000).
Smokers have a four times greater chance to be diagnosed with periodontitis (Johnson Guthmiller,
2007). Indeed, patients who are smokers also do not appear to respond as favourably to periodontal
treatment and show a greater risk of refractory and/or recurrent periodontal disease (Fardal, 2008).
Multiple studies show that smoking has the potential to alter numerous processes in the oral cavity

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein And The Exploration Of This...
What does it truly mean to have human consciousness? In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the
exploration of this question, acts as an overarching theme throughout the novel. Starting from the
creation of Dr. Frankenstein s monster in chapter V of the story, Frankenstein himself has to come to
terms with the fact that he truly believes he has created a monster, and the creature itself has to begin
to understand why he has this label of a monster, even after he begins to see the humanity within
himself. Though the assumption throughout the entire novel remains that this creation does not have
any sort of humanity, that fact cannot be argued as easily, as his morality, ethics, intelligence and
emotions come to light in chapters XV and XVI; all very traditionally human characteristics. Soon the
only truly unhuman traits about the monster is his unorthodox entrance into the world in a lab and his
discomforting physical features. Whether or not this creation is truly a monster can no longer be easily
discernable and what truly characterizes a human soon comes into question. In our world today we
must address the same conundrum. As artificial intelligence becomes more advanced and continues to
progress into thinking and feeling on their own, what should their treatment involve in our world? If
advanced artificial intelligence fits the criteria of human consciousness, why should they not have the
rights we do as human beings? My essay will first explore the criteria for human

The Most Premorable Experience Of Camping At Avesta Pampanda
Cold air. Dark night. Bright stars. It s only once in a lifetime, and I know that you will never regret
this. Camping is one of the memorable event I ve ever been. Last January 2016, the most awaited
experience of a Grade 10 student happened in Avesta Pampanga. Each one of us was really excited
and you could see their biggest smiles on their faces. When we arrived in the place, everyone looked
for their own designated spot to build the tent. On our group, we located it near the playground.
Whenever we have free time, my friends and I spent some time and enjoyed each other company in
this place. We were like kids who used to feel so much fun to play in the swing and seesaw. After that,
we prepared ourselves in the first activity, which was to harvest rice crops in the field. Around two in
the afternoon, we started to walk and straightly went to the farm field without wearing our slippers.
Initially, everyone felt uncomfortable because of the heat from the sun. There was a man who guided
and taught us the proper handling in the tool, which we used through for harvesting the rice grain. It
was a great experience, I realized that the farmers really sacrifice themselves just to provide rice that
is very important in our daily meal, and I really learned that I should not waste food ... Show more

3. Results
The study has established that daily administration of T. vulgaris by the oral route at a dose of 500
mg/kg for 10 days did not cause any mortality or any observable toxic effects in mice of GII. Mice
were alert with no alternation of their behavioral pattern, any gastrointestinal tract disorder or
respiratory distress. From the histopathological observations, there were not any observable changes
in the livers at the giving dose compared to the normal controls (Figure 1).
3.1. Histopathological results
Macroscopically, the liver of T. gondii infected group showed a mild degree of enlargement and
focally extensive necrosis, however in T. vulgaris treated mice; the livers appeared more or less
healthy. Microscopically, the livers of T. gondii infected mice (GIII) showed focal areas of necrosis
with a mild degree of inflammatory cellular infiltrate; mainly lymphocytes that were very obvious in
the portal area and Toxoplasma cysts were observed between the hepatocytes (Figure 2). However, in
the infected immunosuppressed group (GIV), the histopathological features of liver progressed from
moderate to severe, in which there was a dissociation of hepatic cords pattern with generalized
necrosis of the hepatocytes. Also, there was marked dilatation and congestion of the hepatoportal
blood vessels. It was observed that some of Toxoplasma cysts ruptured, releasing tachyzoites to the
sinusoids and invading the other hepatocytes and kupffer cells. Also, there was kupffer

The Jewish Population With A Fresh Eyes
Deshen approaches the Jewish population with a fresh eyes. Compared to the other authors of the
works we ve read previously, he skillfully illuminates the past through both an anthropological and
historical lens. His thorough examination of the mellah society, shows the uncanny threads of
commonality the Jewish diaspora throughout that wind through the ages. With this work, the
microcosm of Morocco was revealed with Deshen s discussion of various aspects of life. Modern
stereotypes of the Jewish masculinity, as well as how medieval Jews juggled the spiritual benefits of
baraka with the economic drain of hosting a sage. Most importantly, he shows the enmeshment and
entrenchment in of Jews in a majority Muslim society.
At first glance, the walls of mellah seem like an impermeable membrane between an insular Jewish
community and the majority Muslim population. However, the mellah walls hide an interconnected
society. Through making ties with government officials, Berber protectors in the countryside, and
distant relatives, Moroccan Jewry effectively spanned across Morocco. The extensive self governing
systems among the Jews each town allowed for Jews from other towns maintain connections with
their local officials. Deshen mentions that even though calling on a governing body from another
town, was largely ineffectual. But what s impressive is the fact that it was even necessary at all. It also
mentions that marriages were predominately arranged between men and women of the

Therefore, Brazil is trying to utilize China s huge market to replace their lost demand in the US. In
fact, the collaboration between China and Brazil has expanded in multiple sector including financing,
investment in joint projects, energy cooperation, and military sales (EIU, 2010). Thus, China became
the largest trading partner for Brazil since 2009 with value about US$36bn (EIU, 2010).
One of the important factors of the growth in China and Brazil as BRIC countries is Foreign Direct

institutional and regulatory quality, trade openness, infrastructure quality, economic and political
stability, and labor quality and cost (The World Bank, 2011). China is still the most attracting for FDI

Reflection About Faith
You may be going through something and aren t quite sure how you ll get through it but I am here to
tell you there is a way, it s called faith. Hebrews 11:1 says Now faith is the substance of things hoped
for, the evidence of things not seen. Battles will come in this life and you may feel like you are going
to fail or that your life is going to end. Speaking from experience there are things that I would not
have dealt with well if it wasn t for having faith that God would take care of it all. Here in this essay, I
am going to share some of my experiences and battles that have come my way. It was 2014, I was
twelve years old and on my way to the James Cancer Center at OSU hospital not for me but my dad.
He was going into surgery that morning for a brain tumor they had found. See this was the third time
he had brain surgery but the first time I was in my mother s womb and the second time I was only
five. This time was different for me though, I understood a lot more about what was going on.
We walked into the hospital and man is OSU large, I have no idea how we found our way around but
we made it to the waiting area where we had come to find my mom and many people from our church.
You could just feel the love when you walked in there, God truly had blessed us greatly with a
wonderful church family. While sitting and waiting you start to think too much and

Essay On Jimmy Valentine
Can a professional burglar turn his life around and become a good person? Jimmy Valentine could.
Jimmy Valentine was a professional burglar who got caught and was sent to jail. After getting out of
jail, Jimmy locked eyes with a fine woman, who then went into a bank. Jimmy collared a boy who
also was walking into a bank and found out the woman s name: Annabel Adams. After locking eyes
with the woman, Jimmy became a changed man. Jimmy changed his name to Ralph D. Spencer and
changed his personality altogether. At the end of the year, the situation was this: Jimmy won Annabel s
heart, he ran a successful shoe store, and he had won the respect of the community. Two weeks before
getting married with Annabel, Mr. Adams, Annabel s father, was showing Ralph the new safe that he
put into his bank. Agatha and May, Annabel s nieces, were fascinated by the shiny safe and all of its
gears. Unfortunately, May had seen Mr. Adams open and close the safe and learned how to do it.
Agatha then got trapped in the safe. There was no combination for the lock of the safe, so there was no

Essay about Interracial Marriages Proposal

SOCI 381 12/10/2010
Introduction
To see a black man and a white woman walking down the street holding hands used to be unheard of.
It was a relationship that, for the few who engaged in it, was kept as quiet as possible. During the
fifties and sixties, interracial dating was not socially acceptable and there were repercussions for those
who were involved in such behaviors because various laws, such as the Jim Crow laws, which kept the

Additionally, there have been theoretical proposals for the existence of other predictors of attitudes
and actions, which may be relevant to the current research. Recent studies have found that controlling
for other variables, significant predictors of opposition to a law banning interracial marriage include
being non white, being younger, holding a liberal ideology, identifying as a democrat, having greater
income, having a greater level of education, being less religious, and living outside of the South
(Haider Markel and Joslyn 2005). For some of these predictors, theoretical explanations have been
proposed. Various researchers have conducted investigations into the many aspects of this type of
relationship and have concluded that an increase in interracial marriages has occurred. This increase
may be the result of numerous factors, including the Supreme Court lifting of the legal restrictions on
racial intermarriage in 1967, the decrease in White prejudice against Blacks, and the narrowing of the
racial gap in education, income, and occupation (Kalmijn 1993). However, Kalmijn (1993) states that
although these factors may have resulted in an increase in interracial marriages, other factors may
counter this effect. For instance, there has been an increase in Black unemployment, a rise in the racial
gap of college enrollment, and part of

Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most successful writers of all time. Twelve of Poe s works are known for
their literary construction. The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most famous poems in history
and was first published in 1845. This is a poem that many readers may describe as dark, twisted, and
even scary can be oddly moving and eye catching. What were the meanings in his masterpiece, and
what did Poe want his readers to understand? Poe s literary work The Raven shows literary elements
of symbolism, theme, and imagery.
First and foremost, a symbol is an object, person, or place that has meaning in it self. This also stands
for something bigger, usually an idea or concept. The raven s darkness symbolizes death. Death
becomes a constant reminder and intruder. The raven also symbolizes the narrator s memories of
Lenore and grief. At the end of the poem the narrator himself even realizes the ravens meaning; when
he states the raven will be with him forever because thoughts of Lenore will be forever with him. This
can be why the ravens symbol is so dark. Additionally, December is another symbol is Poe s poem.
December is in winter, and nothing lives in the winter. December can symbolize death. December is
an end of something, and also the anticipation of something new, a change, to happen. (Hallqvist).
Another symbol many readers see is midnight. Midnight is the darkest part of night. The large,
shadowy raven arrives at midnight on a dreary evening, and taunts the

Philosophy Of Clutter
Spring is a time of renewal, rebirth and revitalization. As we open our doors to the warmer weather,
the weight of a messy house can be overwhelming. The urge to spring clean spawns a bloom of yard
sales. But it s not enough to simply purge and reduce, we need to organize to prevent clutter from
magically reappearing.
A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING AND EVERYTHIG IN IT S PLACE
Some people are going to naturally be cluttered unless they get the help of someone like an . . .
organizer to get them to understand how they can make better choices as to what they keep and how to
store it. But even an organized person who doesn t have a system they can use in a closet or office or

THE PHILOSOPHY OF ORGANZATION METHODS
Some discards are a no brainer: jeans that are too small and out of style, stacks of newspapers and

Kondo s minimalist approach states that keepsakes brought joy and value to your life in the moment,

items that currently bring you joy or purpose remain. The effect can be dramatic. (details

have to deliver essential care such as making sure patients are eating sufficient amounts of food,
keeping hydrated and assisting with hygiene needs. Arnett (2013) emphasises care needs are unique to
each individual and vital for preserving patients health and well being. This links into Roper Logan
Tierney (1999) model of activities of daily living identifying 16 activities essential to maintaining
human life, including: eating and mobilising. Fulfilment and maintenance of these 16 activities
indicate an individual is healthy and gives a focus for nurses to deliver targeted patient centred care.
This is emphasised in Essence of Care (Department of Health, 2010) which reaffirms meeting
essential needs of patients is the main focus point of nursing in contemporary practice. The Essence of
Care is made up of 12 categories which health care professionals focus on in order to provide
thorough patient centred care. These categories include: bladder, bowel, continence care and personal
hygiene. Kitson et al (2013) identified the nurse s role as being one of promoting good patient

A World Divided by Those Who Can Afford Technology and...
Imagine a world divided by those who can afford technology and those who cannot. Those that have
access to technology are the richest in the world, and those that do not are stuck in poverty with no
way to improve their economic status. It sounds like the starting lines of a Hollywood movie but it is a
growing issue in America and abroad. The digital divide is the divide or gap between people who have
access to technology and those that do not. The divide is creating problems for schools who require
more and more assignments to be done on a computer. Also, having the internet is having the power of
information and knowledge that not everyone has the ability to access. Other countries suffer from the
digital divide at a staggering percentage compared to US, UK and Europe. (Crawford) In the United
States the ability to get internet access is usually limited to where you live. There are many homes in
the US where there is not reliable internet access. There are elementary schools that require papers,
homework and research to be done on computers. The students that do not have easy access to a
computer will have a strong disadvantage over those that do. Schools are getting better and more
advanced computer labs but not all students can stay after school to complete their homework, if they
are required to take the bus. In 1995 the Commerce Department published its findings on the digital
divide. They found geographic, economic and racial gaps between

Sheldon Cooper is a character in the fictional television show, The Big Bang Theory . Sheldon is
extremely knowledgeable and brilliant in the things he knows and is passionate about, but everything
else that doesn t interest him, he completely ignores. Sheldon is a theoretical physicist at Caltech,
having earned his B.S., M.S., M.A., Ph.D., and Sc.D. He lives with his roommate and Caltech
colleague, Leonard Hofstadter, an experimental physicist. Having lived together for 10 years, the two
have become best friends. Leonard often times feels obligated to explain Sheldon s behavior and serve
as a mediator between him and the people he is interacting with. The two are usually hanging out with

Penny started to cry when she wasn t understanding anything. When Sheldon asks her why she is
crying, she responds, Because I m stupid! to which Sheldon responds, That s no reason to cry. One
cries because one is sad. For example, I cry because others are stupid, and that makes me sad. Another
example comes from Sheldon feeling like he is deserving of a Nobel Peace Prize. He is having a
conversation with a former Peace Prize winner, Dr. Smoot, and says, You won the Nobel prize, what,
three years ago? So you must deal with a whole lot of what has Smoot done lately? My thought is we
continue my research as team, you know, Cooper Smoot, alphabetical.. When we win the Nobel Prize,
you ll be back on top. Dr. Smoot replies saying, With all due respect, Dr. Cooper, are you on crack? to
which Sheldon responds, Fine, Smoot Cooper, what a diva! Sheldon doesn t think that what is saying
is offensive in anyway, because he is too consumed in himself.
Another disorder I would diagnose Sheldon with is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or OCD. People
with OCD have the need for everything to be perfect and having to be in control of everything.
Someone with OCD also does well with lists and schedules and does not like to stray from them.
These characteristics both apply to Sheldon. One thing Sheldon does, that is often seen as comical, is
having a roommate agreement with Leonard. It is essentially a contract that states the protocol for

Great variations are coming up in the thought process and execution of scripting and articulating
various roles. Powerful roles are being dedicated to female actors which leaves a great impact in the
mind of the audiences for long many years. The script and role of Mary Kom has also inspired and
influenced a lot which was played by actor Prastuti Parasar along with another emotional double role
in a family drama name Moi maa r suwali. But presence of such influential role cannot be said to be
absent totally from the yesteryears of the history of Mobile Theatre. To mention, Alankar can be
named which was staged by Kohinoor Theatre in 1976 77. It was based on the heartbreaking story of a

Roman Architecture And Modern Architecture
Introduction
The Romans were genius in their architectural design of beautiful buildings and amazing structures.
Putting the beauty and grandness aside, the Roman buildings were built to be functional and to last for
many years. The Roman on using architectural design to improve infrastructure and functionality of a
culture have had a lasting influence more modern architecture. The Roman design of complicated
roads connecting cities to the capital influenced on our road system today. It is possible that the
modern infrastructure of bridges, roads, dams, and aqueducts may not have existed without the
framework of the Roman architects. The Roman s widespread use of concrete for building had a big
influence on material used in architecture today. Additionally, the Roman architects designed buildings
to represent a certain building type or specific to the use of the building. There were buildings for
religious use, public buildings, buildings for entertainment, and buildings for recreational use. They
built large forums which housed offices. and shops (Richard 70). This concept of a building designed
to be a specific type is prevalent in modern architecture.
Building Types
When you see certain buildings you automatically know the function of that building just by the
architectural design. The idea of buildings being designed for a specific use was started back in

  • 2. Washington In Frederick Douglass The Heroic Slave In Frederick Douglass The Heroic Slave, readers are first introduced to Madison Washington, an enslaved black man, through the perspective of the narrator, Mr. Listwell, a white, northern traveller. It is through this description of his physical features that we are able to catch a glimpse of Washington s personality one which defies and breaks stereotypes of black men in the nineteenth century. The first thing one notices about the manner in which Washington is described is the use of contradictory, yet complementary, descriptors. Listwell says Washington is of manly form, showing Herculean strength. It is also said that a child might play in his arms, or dance on his shoulders and that his broad mouth and nose spoke only of good nature and kindness. One other specific phrase that stands out is his face was black, but comely. This is, in its original biblical usage, a phrase used to describe a woman namely, her attractiveness though here, it s being used to describe a man. The fact that a white man is depicting a man, especially a black one, as attractive, despite his blackness, is pretty noteworthy (this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of these animal like comparisons was normally used in a degrading manner, in an attempt to make black folks seem inhuman, but here that is not the case. Washington is compared to a lion and a raven; a lion typically represents strength and courage, and a raven symbolizes wit. Ravens, like Washington, are also dark in appearance, though this does not stop them from being intelligent or having other positive characteristics, just as Washington s dark skin does not deter him from possessing positive traits like bravery, intelligence, or strength. It is these comparisons that break the harmful period typical stereotypes of black men. Douglass takes a damaging way of viewing African Americans and turns it into a positive and uplifting ... • 3. Mythology Research of Egyptian God Amun-Re Essay Amun Re is often referred to as the most important and powerful god of Ancient Egypt. Amun Re was the god of the sun. Amun Re is the main name of the sun god, but also has three different names in which describe the phases of life that Amun Re goes through each day. (Budge, Pg. 92) When examining the ancient Egyptian god Amun Re, four main points must be understood, including: the origin of Amun Re, the characteristics of Amun Re, how Amun Re was worshiped, and how Amun Re impacted Egyptian life. First, is the discussion of the origin of Amun Re. Re, is an ancient Egyptian solar deity (also spelled Ra ). Re s association with the sun meant that he was understood to be an important force in the creation of the world, and Re s daily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The last role of Amun Re was Re as the creator. Egyptians believed that Re would weep and when he did so his tears would then turn to men. Re is also seen to be the creator of the seasons, months, plants, and animals. This falls back to the fact that Re is the sun, and the sun signifies life and growth, allowing all things to grow through life. Second, I will be discussing the characteristics of Amun Re. Re is depicted as a man with a hawk head and a headdress with a large sun disk. The sun disk on his headdress is to reference his continuous power and control of the sun. The Egyptians were not senseless; they did not think that a man or chariot raced across the sky dragging the sun to its resting point. Egyptians needed a way to understand the phenomenon of the sun due to their lack of scientific knowledge. They tended to use animals to describe certain characteristics of a god. This was especially the case with the ones they cannot see. Thebes celebrated a different major god Amun, the Hidden One with powers so great he could not be visualized, yet because he had to be represented in some way in order to pay him homage, he was depicted as a man with a tall ostrich plume crown. (Brier, Pg. 36). Third, I will be discussing how Amun Re was worshiped in ancient Egypt. Amun Re is seen in five ways, first, as a man, this is when he is seen on the throne as a king, holding a scepter in one hand and the symbol of life in the other. In ... Everywhere she looked, young people were always on their phones and computers, paying more attention to how many friends they had on social media than how many friends they had in the real world. She found it absolutely deplorable. Wherever she went, she always made certain that anyone 40 years younger than her knew that she did not approve of whatever electronic device was on their person. While she was waiting in line at the supermarket, she made sure to tell the girl texting in front of her that, when she was a girl as young as she was, she had to walk 2 miles, backwards, uphill, through the snow in order to socialize with any of her friends. Although his fascinations to the mind and thought were definitely present, he was unable to attend university for philosophy; however, luck struck him when he was able to begin working as a columnist and later dabbled in theatre. In many of his works, he utilized the notion of absurdum and absence, seen heavily in The Myth of Sisyphus and further elaborated upon in the main character of Meursault in The Stranger. By gathering the pieces that occurred in Camus s life, it becomes clearer as to why he wrote the story the way it is and what it means, to him and to others. • 11. The Wanderer And The Wife s Lament For the Anglo Saxons, the world was a wind swept place, cold and hostile. Not only did they face the constant threat of belligerent bands of warriors sweeping across the horizon, but the elements themselves buffeted their homes and wore away the hulls of their ships. While temporary safety could be found in the warmth of the mead hall and the companionship of others, the devastation of war, disease, and time would slowly etch away at even the most stable and peaceful society. This unease spurred Anglo Saxon poets to write some of their most beautiful, haunting pieces of verse, like Hrothgar s Sermon from Beowulf and the Elegies. While the poems The Wanderer and The Wife s Lament chronicle the suffering and eventual demise of the individual, The Ruin describes the crumbling remains of a once glorious city. Through the extensive use of imagery, compelling rhythm, and a stately meter, the poet of The Ruin emphasizes the themes of death, decay, and the inevitable downfall of mighty civilizations messages further underscored by the loss of major sections of the poem itself. The poet begins with the foundation of the city walls, all that remains of a mighty structure which had ...seen one kingdom after another / stood in the storm, steep and tall, then tumbled (The Ruin poet 10b 11). Plant cellular respiration carried out in the daylight is called photorespiration, or light respiration. The plant uses a portion of the oxygen created by photosynthesis. • 18. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein And The Exploration Of This... What does it truly mean to have human consciousness? In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the exploration of this question, acts as an overarching theme throughout the novel. Starting from the creation of Dr. Frankenstein s monster in chapter V of the story, Frankenstein himself has to come to terms with the fact that he truly believes he has created a monster, and the creature itself has to begin to understand why he has this label of a monster, even after he begins to see the humanity within himself. Though the assumption throughout the entire novel remains that this creation does not have any sort of humanity, that fact cannot be argued as easily, as his morality, ethics, intelligence and emotions come to light in chapters XV and XVI; all very traditionally human characteristics. Soon the only truly unhuman traits about the monster is his unorthodox entrance into the world in a lab and his discomforting physical features. Whether or not this creation is truly a monster can no longer be easily discernable and what truly characterizes a human soon comes into question. In our world today we must address the same conundrum. As artificial intelligence becomes more advanced and continues to progress into thinking and feeling on their own, what should their treatment involve in our world? If advanced artificial intelligence fits the criteria of human consciousness, why should they not have the rights we do as human beings? My essay will first explore the criteria for human ... It was a relationship that, for the few who engaged in it, was kept as quiet as possible. Additionally, there have been theoretical proposals for the existence of other predictors of attitudes and actions, which may be relevant to the current research. Recent studies have found that controlling for other variables, significant predictors of opposition to a law banning interracial marriage include being non white, being younger, holding a liberal ideology, identifying as a democrat, having greater income, having a greater level of education, being less religious, and living outside of the South (Haider Markel and Joslyn 2005). For some of these predictors, theoretical explanations have been proposed. Various researchers have conducted investigations into the many aspects of this type of relationship and have concluded that an increase in interracial marriages has occurred. This increase may be the result of numerous factors, including the Supreme Court lifting of the legal restrictions on racial intermarriage in 1967, the decrease in White prejudice against Blacks, and the narrowing of the racial gap in education, income, and occupation (Kalmijn 1993). However, Kalmijn (1993) states that although these factors may have resulted in an increase in interracial marriages, other factors may counter this effect. For instance, there has been an increase in Black unemployment, a rise in the racial gap of college enrollment, and part of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most famous poems in history and was first published in 1845. This is a poem that many readers may describe as dark, twisted, and even scary can be oddly moving and eye catching. What were the meanings in his masterpiece, and what did Poe want his readers to understand? Poe s literary work The Raven shows literary elements of symbolism, theme, and imagery. First and foremost, a symbol is an object, person, or place that has meaning in it self. This also stands for something bigger, usually an idea or concept. The raven s darkness symbolizes death. Death becomes a constant reminder and intruder. The raven also symbolizes the narrator s memories of Lenore and grief. At the end of the poem the narrator himself even realizes the ravens meaning; when he states the raven will be with him forever because thoughts of Lenore will be forever with him. This can be why the ravens symbol is so dark. Additionally, December is another symbol is Poe s poem. December is in winter, and nothing lives in the winter. December can symbolize death. December is an end of something, and also the anticipation of something new, a change, to happen. (Hallqvist). Another symbol many readers see is midnight. Midnight is the darkest part of night. Nurses have to deliver essential care such as making sure patients are eating sufficient amounts of food, keeping hydrated and assisting with hygiene needs. This links into Roper Logan Tierney (1999) model of activities of daily living identifying 16 activities essential to maintaining human life, including: eating and mobilising. Fulfilment and maintenance of these 16 activities indicate an individual is healthy and gives a focus for nurses to deliver targeted patient centred care.
