1. Learning Agreement & Process Review
• Worth 35% of the final WBL Module Grade 35% of 2500 = 875 words
• Has 5 elements that we will be looking for evidence of:
– 1. Critique of original learning outcomes
• PWBL
• Those Agreed with Workplace & your WBL/PT prior to
commencement of placement
– 2. Revised Learning Outcomes are fully justified relative to the actual work
programme undertaken and WBL guidelines (see Module handbook
appendices 3, 4 & 5)
– 3. How you would have personally approached this differently if repeating the
exercise … particularly viz your organisational and time management skills
– 4. How and why you would like to see the overall process of the WBL module
develop in future years
– 5. How and why you have developed your network of contacts during the
WBL process
Note: These have been developed from the NOS Unit ‘Manage your own time and
personal resources to achieve your objectives’
1. Critique of my original learning outcomes
1.1 Learning Outcomes generated during Planning for Work Based
Learning Module
These Learning Outcomes relate to the Learning Outcomes Matrix developed during
the Planning for Work Based Learning module. Refer to LO (Appendix)
LO1
The first part of this Learning Outcome is still relevant to my work experience.
However I removed the reference to stress because I discovered I had to agree the
Learning Outcomes with the Chief Executive of the organisation and I did not want to
give him the impression that I would crack under the pressure of a stressful situation
LO2
This initial Learning Outcome remained justifiable at this stage as it is one of the
main points of work experience.
LO3
This initial Learning Outcome also remained justifiable at this stage as it is one of the
main points of work experience during a management degree.
LO4
I did not know if I would have much opportunity to use any creativity on the
placement but creativity is important to me, which was not reflected in the personality
tests, so I kept it in to prove to myself that I could be creative.
2. LO5
This initial Learning Outcome remained justifiable at this stage as again it is one of
the main points of work experience.
LO6
I kept this Learning Outcome because I was hoping that through my work experience
I will have gained some sort of understanding of a possible career path for me.
1.2 Learning Outcomes agreed with Workplace & my WBL/PT prior to
commencement of my placement
These Learning Outcomes relate to the Agreed Learning Outcomes developed
during my discussions with my personal tutor and placement supervisor.
ALO1- ALO6:
See above. Appendix...
ALO7: Personal- Work Skills:
The office aspect of this Learning Outcome was relevant, but there was little
opportunity to work in an inter agency environment. I thought that, being a
kinesthetic learner, an office environment may not be ideal for me. However through
my degree a probable career path would most likely be along the lines of a
managerial position, in which I will need to work within an office environment.
ALO8: Career- Identify Stakeholders:
This Outcome was suggested to me by my Placement Officer. This outcome is
certainly relevant if I was hoping to pursue a career within the FA. As well as this, it
would help me understand how office work effects people in the industry.
ALO9: Academic- Marketing:
This was an outcome I decided on following my discussion with Chris, it is an aspect
of the course that I am particularly interested in. I am considering it as a possible
career path so I would like to try it in a practical working environment.
ALO10: Research, strategy and action planning:
This Learning Outcome came from the Chief Executive when we were discussing my
Learning Agreement. This is a specific task but it fits into career and personal
categories of Learning Outcomes
ALO11: Communication/ customer care:
3. This was also a Learning Outcome suggested by the Chief Executive which we
agreed on because good communication is vital in the workplace, particularly
management.
2. Revised Learning Outcomes fully justified relative to the actual
work programme undertaken and WBL guidelines
RLO1: As a result of completing the work experience I will have developed an
understanding of the different roles and responsibilities of different members of staff
in a small organisation.
RLO2: As a result of completing the work experience I will have further developed
my I.T skills and realised the importance of I.T in the workplace.
RL03: As a result of completing the work experience I will understand the impact of
internal promotions in the working practices of a small organisation.
3. How I would have personally approached this differently if
repeating the exercise
I would have made better use of my student coach to gain more of an understanding
of what I personally wanted to achieve through this experience to improve my
learning outcomes before the placement.
4. How and why I would like to see the overall process of the WBL
module develop in future years
There could be a previous student come in to a lecture and explain the importance of
carrying out a placement at this stage and what impact it had on his/her career…
5. How and why I have developed my network of contacts during
the WBL process
I already knew the chief executive and the chairman of the organisation slightly
through playing county football and my coaching qualifications. Through work based
learning I have managed to develop a professional relationship with them, this may
lead to work in the future.
I have also met a further 5 employees of the Cumberland FA including Women and
Girls Development Officer, the Welfare Officer, Disability Officer and the recently
promoted Community Development Manager.
4. I also met someone who works with Paul (Disability Officer) who offered me some
coaching work over the summer and I received a mention at the Carlisle League
meeting. At that meeting someone I was introduced to already knew my name after
Gill (Welfare Officer) had spoke highly to her about the work I had been doing
This experience showed me the value of a work placement. It has not only improved
my work skills, it has also showed me the importance of improving your network of
contacts when looking for full time employment.
Words: 895.. need to add references to appendecies.
In this section students will be required to review the W.E. process with specific
reference to their previously submitted learning agreement. Students should provide
an analysis of the appropriateness of their original learning agreement, being
cognisant of any refinements that were necessary as the W.E progressed.
Amendments should consider how your understanding of your personal, academic
and career requirements have developed through considering additional diagnostic
exercises, key skills, graduate attributes and National Occupational Standards,
where appropriate. Moreover, it should provide a critical reflection of your planning
and preparation and a personal commentary on how the W.E. process could have
been improved. It should also include reference to any associated paperwork that
has been requested by the Carnegie Placement Office and the appropriateness of
your original learning outcomes and expected work programme.
Overall, you should provide a critical review of your overall placement experience in general
and your original learning agreement/outcomes/expected work programme in particular. You
should provide comment in relation to how this and your overall learning has developed in
the following areas:
The extent to which your individual learning outcomes were compatible with your personal
needs and the needs of the organisation. Note: these were originally developed within the L4
‘Planning for Work Based Learning’ module.
How and why you have and/or should have amended the original learning outcomes and/or
expected work programme.
The impact of your time management on the success of the placement
5. How you have developed your network of contacts
Note: These outcomes have been developed from the National Occupational Standards Unit
… Manage your own time and personal resources to achieve your objectives
Learning Outcomes
This section should form a systematic review of the Learning Outcomes itemised in
the `Learning Agreement'. As a guide, this could follow the following format.
Identification of the Learning Outcome.
You should attempt to use the knowledge you have developed during the WBL module
process in order to critically examine and explain your experiences
You are not expected to do this for all the instances listed in your learning log. Instead,
you are required to prioritise, select and cross reference the experiences detailed in
your learning log to provide a critical reflection against your original learning outcomes.
This may include specific reference to a small number of ‘critical incidents’ to illustrate
the depth of learning that has occurred. Remember, this section should provide critical
analysis and not merely protracted description.
You are encouraged to refer to relevant course materials/literature. Credit will be given
to students who are able to apply theory to practice. This could be used to critique
existing practice, critique exiting literature/theory and/or provide the basis for a more
appropriate solution to the development challenges faced by you, your work colleagues
and/or the organisations(s) within which you were working. All references should be
clearly labelled with full details provided by the bibliography.
Your learning outcomes should:
Allow you to take part in development activities that are consistent with your plans and your
personal learning style
Assess your performance in achieving your learning outcomes throughout the work
experience process.
Use existing literature sources to critically evaluate and reflect upon your learning with
specific reference to your learning outcomes
Evaluate the quality and relevance of these development activities and the impact they have
on your performance
… using feedback from others (including your Workplace supervisor,
WBL/Personal Tutor & Student Coach(es). This will provide a critical reflection on
your engagement with the coaching process. In other words, what help have you sought
and given; what value has this been in relation to the process of developing
appropriate learning, reflections and action plans for both yourself and others. You
should use evidence and reflections from your interactions with your work experience
6. contact, student coach, careers service and WBL/personal tutors. This could take a
variety of forms including links to digitally recorded conversations and/or facebook pages
(or equivalent).
