Leadership is a Behavior Leading by Example. Leader’s job is to help people accomplish their goals by Supporting them and removing obstacles so that they can accomplish the goal that makes the vision a reality. Leaders of the future must involve both vision and implementation. They have to be Effective and Efficient. Ken Blanchard
Leadership is a Behavior Effectiveness: Focusing the organization’s energy in a particular direction. Efficiency: Focusing on the way things are done I.E. systems and procedures.
Role of the leader To be Responsive to needs of his/her people by: Setting  clear goals Providing timely  Directions and Support Providing  positive Feedback .
Leadership styles Three styles are present: Authoritarian Participative Laissez faire. Any successful leader should use the three styles and always according to the situation.
Leaders power There are two sources of power: Position power: it comes from the position you have in your organization. Personal power: Influence of Leader to change follower’s behavior due to his personal relationship. Any successful leader should use both powers.
Management VS Leadership Leadership role Doing the right thing Setting directions: vision and strategy Communicating vision and strategy so that people understand and accept them. Motivating and inspiring people: so that they can make the vision a reality despite obstacles. Produces significant change. Management role Doing things right Planning and budgeting Organizing and staffing and delegating. Controlling and problem solving: monitoring results against plan, spotting deviation planning and organizing solution. Creates predictability and order.

Uniqueness: Going the extra mile identifies the true leader from a follower.  Joy: in order to succeed the leader shall enjoy his leadership.

Assessing your Leadership potential Evaluate how well you measure up as a prospective leader by responding to the following statements. You may answer on of the following options:  1- never, 2- occasionally, 3- frequently, 4- always. If you score: 12-24: you are potentially competent. 25-36: you have the makings of a good leader, some areas still need to be improved. 37-48: your leadership is high, but do not become complacent. Strive to realize it.
Assessing your Leadership Potential 12. I take time out each week to recharge my mental batteries. 11. I can work easily with all types of people. 10. I like people to express genuine, close friendship to me. 9. I find it easy to express genuine, close friendship.  8. I take advice impartially from above below and from equals. 7. My ability makes me want to take charge. 6. I maintain friendly relations with everyone on the team. 5. I find and tell the objective truth even if people don’t like to hear it. 4. I make friends easily and have many useful outside contacts. 3. I propose original ideas for discussion in meetings. 2. I focus strongly on achieving results from the tasks I undertake. 1.
