Valerie Burton, an AP Literature and English IV teacher from New Orleans, presented at the LCTE Fall Conference in Lafayette, Louisiana on October 19, 2012. She demonstrated various free online tools for teachers to integrate technology into their lessons, including Google Docs for collaboration, Weebly for student ePortfolios, Wordle for presentations, Kidblog for student blogs, and Twitter to communicate with students. Burton also shared specific ways she uses these tools like Google Forms for surveys and Wordpress for assignment blogs.
Lightboard Design and Deployment: Creating Pedagocally Embedded Learning Reso...Michael Paskevicius
In 2015, the right combination of factors came together for us to build a Lightboard at Vancouver Island University based on the open hardware specification originally designed at Northwestern University.
The Lightboard provides a familiar whiteboard like environment for faculty to use while creating educational videos. Aside from the novelty, what makes the Lightboard a useful tool and what does it really take to build one?
We’ll share our Centre's history with supporting educational video and explain why and how we built our Lightboard. We'll show you pictures, examples we created with the lightboard and some pedagogically appropriate integrations into teaching and learning experiences.
We’d also like to hear from you. How have you supported educational video on your campus and what other supports for creating video have you used?
Presenters
Michael Paskevicius, Learning Technologies Application Developer, Vancouver Island University
Carl Butterworth, Manager, Learning Technologies, Vancouver Island University
Stephanie Boychuk, Learning Technologies Support Specialist, Vancouver Island University
Maintaining your evidence in learning. Life long learning record. Portfolios.
The portfolio is a collection of student’s work that is purposefully performed to provide evidence of the student’s efforts, progress or achievement in a given area or areas. This bundle of evidence must include the student participation in the selection of the contents, the guidelines for selection, and the criteria for judging merit, and evidence of student self-reflection

Weebly allows you to create professional looking online ePortfolios. Their intuitive drag and drop features enable you to quickly and easily publish your work on your own website.
ePortfolios empower students to emphasize individual strengths, therefore, allowing them to become key players in their own learning. Join the presenter as she discusses the development and implementation of ePortfolios.
A presentation from a 20 minute workshop on Online Learning to help support independent learning.
Workshop brief: Examples will look at the use of department websites, twitter, schoology, flipboard and pearltrees to support independent learning. The examples used will show how resources and links can be shared easily with students to create online resource repositories. There will be a particular focus on how these can be used with KS4 and KS5 to encourage students to (i) take responsibility for their own learning and read around topics and (ii) follow up lessons using resources used in class at home to support revision.
ETUG Spring 2014 - My Toolbox is Full - How Why and When to use Digital Tools...BCcampus
The purpose of this workshop is to explore digital tools that can be used to facilitate communication, collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity for online students. We will look at a variety of tools and examine how they can be used for formative learning activities as well as assessments. Participants will be given the opportunity to explore specific websites and applications, reflect on current practices, and consider the benefits and limitations of use. We will also address concerns for implementation, such as evaluating non-traditional assignments, guiding both tech-savvy and tech-wary students, and other issues, such as copyright and privacy concerns
This handout was used for my Southern Regional Education Board Summer Session presentation. I presented methods of integrating literacy strategies and technology to engage students.
One student stands with his/her back to the screen.
Group members give clues to the vocabulary word onscreen as a clock keeps time. (1 min)
The student tries to guess the word before the buzzer.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Welcome to TechSoup New Member Orientation and Q&A (May 2024).pdfTechSoup
