- Lawyers sometimes make the "milkshake mistake" of focusing too narrowly on legal issues rather than clients' broader needs, which can include reducing anxiety, achieving justice, and obtaining revenge.
- As with media, online tools now offer alternatives to traditional legal services, allowing people to solve problems and avoid costly legal bills through virtual law offices, legal forms websites, and crowdsourced legal advice.
- While lawyers serve important functions, the legal profession must recognize changing consumer behaviors and technology to meet client needs in this new landscape.

Don't worry, we've put together a brief webinar recap to find out more about what Urjanet's Erik Becker, VP Sales, and eCredable’s CEO, Steve Ely, think of today’s credit scoring models, the shortcomings and limitations, and how new proprietary models could be the answer to giving the millions of underbanked and unbanked American consumers a more sufficient method of credit scoring.
In this webinar recap you’ll also gain insight into the sentiments around this new proprietary scoring model as the team reviews the results of a recent survey conducted by Urjanet of nearly 900 American consumers. Check out the webinar recap to learn more!
How Commercial Real Estate Giants Can Put Tenants' Hard Earned Dollars At RiskGail Fischer
Fischer provides a hard-hitting analysis of the biases and conflicts of interest that prevail in today's new commercial real estate environment. The "Big 4" global commercial real estate firms increasingly represent both landlords and tenants. But they make most of their money from the owners, investors, developers and landlords. Tenants come last and as a result risk getting a bad deal. "It's a gamble for a company to put its corporate real estate portfolio in the hands of giant firms that serve multiple players and have much to gain by supporting the best deal for landlords rather than helping tenants minimize costs," Fischer said.
A briefing on what are "unbundled legal services", sometimes called "Limited Legal Services" and how this approach can serve consumer needs and the DIY consumer.
"Ethics" - an obstacle to innovation in legal servicesKathleen Clark
This presentation compares the relative lack of innovation in law with the record of robust innovation in other fields, and describe how ethics standards restricting the unauthorized practice of law, non-lawyer ownership of law firms (Model Rule 5.4(b), (d)), and sharing of legal fees with non-lawyers (Model Rule 5.4(a) are holding back innovation. In other fields, industrial scale production creates commoditized products and services at radically lowered per-unit costs, greatly increasing the number of people who can afford those products and services. (Compare the high price of bespoke clothing with the low price of off-the-rack manufactured clothes.) By contrast, a significant portion of legal services are bespoke rather than commoditized, and thus are available at relatively high prices that few individuals can afford. A recent study showed that 76 percent of cases in state courts involve at least one party who is not represented by counsel. The law has seen little of the kind of innovation that would make legal services available at prices individuals can afford. To the degree that our “ethics” standards stand in the way of such innovation, they need to be reexamined.
The millennial and data-driven (r)evolution of fintechGuy Turner
What does gassing your car at night have to do with getting a loan? Everything we do is now trackable, creating new data sources for underwriting. Meanwhile a cashless and shared economy are disaggregating major asset purchase (cars, houses) for millennials. The old bait and hook of credit cards as an entry to car and mortgage debt is no longer a winning combo for banks to tap the young generation. In short, the consumer fintech value chain is a deck of cards thrown and now cascading to the ground. What are startups doing to slip into this reshuffle, and where are banks still advantaged?
Congress eliminated bankruptcy protections in 2005 is a common myth. This is a common myth, but it is simply not true.
Creditors want you to believe this is the case because they do not want you to know that you have options.

Topic: Privacy: Billion-Dollar Companies Built on YOU
Speaker: Chris Clausen
This discussion will cover data privacy, how we should define it, and topics such as anonymity, corporate accountability, and more.
-----------------
Privacy – a loaded term open to varying scope and definition, yet evoking a very specific emotional response in most of us when we think about our own privacy, the associated rights we expect, and the risks we worry about.
Be it wanting ‘connectedness’ via social media, the growing ubiquity of voice assistant apps (they’re always on and monitoring our utterances) and IoT devices, or algorithms that assimilate our every click and swipe to deliver optimized media and shopping recommendations, consumers are trading privacy for convenience.
In the established ‘give-to-get’ model between billion-dollar companies and consumers, the typical consumer does not have true transparency/understanding of how their personal data is being used and exchanged, let alone know their rights and options regarding their personal data. Further, is this data truly being anonymized (cannot be traced back to real-world individuals) and protected from meddling nation-states and bad actors?
As technology leaders, what is our fiduciary responsibility? What could our role be in both giving consumers more control, while driving the industry to better protect their information?
To find a lawyer becomes a headache for business organization or general people. Sometimes people face many difficulties to find proper lawyer as their requirements, because of information gap. In addition, it is also difficult to find experienced lawyer. Usually, in order to hire a lawyer people need to meet him physically which is time-consuming and expensive. The delivery of legal services remains largely fragmented, outdated, and inefficient. The main purpose of this paper is to do empirical research about how the Internet is currently failing laypeople who are searching online for the legal help to their life problems and what a future agenda of user-centered standards and practices for better legal help on the Internet could be. Maximizing & Exploiting Big Data in Digital Media....LegallyMediaPost
Data, the gold of the online world, can be both an asset and a liability. Online tracking mechanisms and data matching/segmentation techniques have become far more sophisticated and make programmatic media buying more effective. 1st party and 3rd party data can be acquired and used for a wide variety of purposes. Regulators and lawmakers are slowly catching up and raising privacy and consumer protection concerns. Avoiding potential pitfalls should be a key strategic business decision for every player in the programmatic space using services through which data is collected and/or exploited. This session will discuss best practices for exploiting big data in the programmatic and digital media worlds in a compliant manner.
Unbundled legal services, also called limited scope representation or discrete task representation, may be used by a variety of law practices from solos to large law firms to serve an large market of unmet legal needs. Technology exists to assist the attorney in streamlining the unbundling process by using document automation and assembly programs that make unbundling legal services a cost-effective form of delivering legal services to the public. However, attorneys providing limited scope representation should be aware of certain ethics risks and best practices. Whether unbundling is handled in a traditional firm setting or through the use of technology, attorneys should be aware of the benefits and risks of this complementary method of delivering legal services to their clients.

Architecting Information For An Open Source CitizenryRachel Knickmeyer
Metaphorically, software and law have fundamental things in common. They’re both specialized, obtuse, and generally inaccessible to the layperson. Both govern our daily lives. And whereas software is compiled or interpreted and executed on specialized digital machines, law is interpreted and executed by specially trained human nervous systems.
Open source software relies on community support of two kinds: contribution and collaboration. The same concept lies at the heart of the Open Government Initiative, which focuses on transparency, participation and accessibility. Despite ongoing progress toward transparency, however, significant opportunities remain for improving how government collaborates with citizens to make the process of crafting legislation more accessible. In this talk, we propose that the problems we see with the current state of collaborative government participation is a problem of UX; and information architecture can provide a bipartisan pathway to solving these problems.
We will cover how GitHub’s success stems from its user experience and understanding of its core users: developers. Jumping off from this, we will discuss the concept of open government; covering some its important milestones; and demonstrate how some of the less successful ventures contained critical user experience shortfalls. Finally, we will present research findings and a conceptual IA that is particular to the crafting of laws and legislation. This talk will be a call to action as well: get ready to get involved!
We are witnessing the democritization of real estate. What does this mean and how does it impact the real estate industry, its business models and its sustainability?

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.
