1. Warm –up – pens, paper, journal, books, note
(note) A rule is a statement of how people should behave. A law is a
rule for society.
(Discuss) Pretend you run a business and you have two minutes to
hire one of two employees. One has a criminal record, the other does
not and they are both strangers. Who do you hire and why?
Homework
Will be a short 5-10 minute activity in the activity book.
Skills
Expressing ideas and managing information.
Today's Objectives
1. Examine what we shall be doing over the next several weeks.
2. Examine what rules or laws you disagree with and why?
3. Complete the ‘If you were trapped on an island’ group task.
Heading: Law 1 Date:
2. We are going to read page 275 (3 lines) of the book and then
copy a table onto your page examining ‘Rules’ and ‘Laws’.
We will then read page 102 of your activity book which has an
excellent introduction to the chapter. We shall take notes
along the way examining Law and Order.
In groups of 3-4 you shall complete the activity back in the
main book in which you are trapped on an island and have to
create laws.
We’ll end by completing the picture activity on page 103 in
your activity book (which shall be your homework should we
not complete it in class).
Plan for today
3. I will need one person to read page 275 of your main book (3 lines)
before we take a small note and fill in a table below in pairs.
(note) The main difference between a rule and law are the
consequences if your break them. (Rule – mild discomfort,
Law – your life changes)
Use page 275 to help you – LAWS have worse consequences.

(Note) Behavior: the way in which one acts or conducts
oneself, especially towards others.
(Note) Should laws seek to punish people or reform
(improve) them?
(Your next activity will be on page 276 of your main book.
You shall be divided into groups of 3-4. Start reading #Action
