Latin AmericaIndependence MovementsIn 1807 France invaded Portugal, and in 1808 they invaded Spain.  The Portuguese Queen fled to Brazil.  Joseph Bonaparte is put on the Spanish throne; Spain rebelled.
 In 1811, Paraguay & Venezuela declared their independence from Spain. In 1814, Uruguay followed suit. Chile attempted & failed to achieve independence & was reestablished as a royal colony.
 1819 the Republic of Colombia, consisting of Colombia, Venezuela & Ecuador is proclaimed.
 Buenos Aires & Chile both finally achieve their independence, as did Peru a few years later. A revolt in Portugal led to the reinstatement of the exiled Portuguese royals. Latin AmericanIndependence Movements  In 1821, Central America declared its independence from Spain.  The next year Brazil became independent from Portugal & by 1823 Mexico was also independent.
