LANNET LANswitch
Plus hubs combine
any mix of shared
and switched LANs,
greatly reducing the
expense and
complexity of
migrating to ATM.
n today’s highly competitive business
environment, corporate networks are
experiencing serious bandwidth
limitations due to the growing use of
increasingly powerful applications, expanding
number of users, and emerging requirements
for voice, video, and multimedia support.
Because of these factors, networking–both
as an industry and a technology–is in the
process of an evolution to high-speed
switching and ATM. However, the process
of integrating existing enterprise networks
into an ATM environment cannot be achieved
overnight. Until then, organizations need
a way to meet the increasing demand for
network services today, and prepare the
foundation for a smooth migration to
the ATM networks of tomorrow, while
maximizing their current network investment.
LANNET LANswitch Plus hubs with their
full complement of plug-in modules provide
the means to do just that.

The LET-36, LET-20 and LET-10 switching
hubs are the foundation for a total networking
solution that delivers the right set of features,
right when you need them. LANswitch’s
modular hub design supports a broad range
of network environments and makes it easy
for network users to adopt and assimilate
high-speed switching technologies and
emerging standards, such as ATM, at their
own pace.

The sophisticated backplane architecture
found in every LANswitch Plus hub
provides the kind of versatile connectivity
that enterprise networks need. Each hub
backplane supports four Ethernet buses, two
Token Ring buses, and one FDDI bus for
shared LANs, plus the protocol-
independent, 2.56 Gbps Cellenium™ Bus
for switched LANs.
This unique ability to integrate shared
and switched LANs in the same hub allows
users to gradually migrate to switched LANs
modules that can be mobilized to meet the
networking requirements of large organi-
zations. These modular, interchangeable
components give LANNET customers the
ability to create a custom network by mixing
and matching a wide variety of switching,
connectivity, internetworking, and
management modules within the hub.

LANNET’s complete line of standards-
compliant connectivity modules guarantees
no limitation on cabling options. Every type
and ultimately, to ATM, while leveraging
their existing network components and
infrastructure to the fullest.
M O D U L A R , F L E X I B L E D E S I G N
In addition to their advanced backplane,
LANswitch Plus hubs’ strength and
versatility lies in the extensive range of
plug-and-play
of UTP, STP, fiber-optic and coax media
with virtually any connector can be inter-
faced to the hub backplane. Likewise, users
can choose from a range of port densities
which will satisfy the requirements of small
workgroups as well as enterprise network
installations.

LANswitch Plus hubs provide
the ultimate migration path to
ATM networking. LANswitch

are interconnected via a
switched collapsed backbone,
which in turn, provides access
to the WAN and ATM.

To maintain their competitive edge,
companies depend on computer networks
for the timely flow of vital information.
Network downtime translates into lost
productivity, and ultimately lost revenues.
That’s why LANswitch Plus safeguards
every possible point of network failure.
LANswitch Plus hubs feature peerless fault
tolerance in the form of:
. Redundant bus configurations.
. Distributed modular architecture,
enabling intelligent functions such as
timing, switch processing and backup
links of all kinds to be dispersed
throughout the hub.
. Multiple power sources and backup
power supplies that protect against
general electrical failure.
. Hot Swappable modules.
I N V E S T M E N T P R O T E C T I O N
LANswitch Plus hubs give network users
the flexibility to adopt high-speed switching
at their own pace. Performance-boosting
LANswitch Plus modules plug directly into
the hub chassis, allowing customers to
deploy high-speed switching technology
where it is needed most by simply swapping
modules in and out of the hub.
This built-in flexibility also paves
a smooth migration path to ATM. In fact,
LANswitch Plus is the only hub in the
industry that provides easy coexistence and
migration from shared LANs–to switched
LANs–to ATM, with no hub or backplane
upgrade.
F U L LY M A N A G E A B L E
LANswitch Plus hubs and their full range
of modules are monitored and managed by
Montage™, LANNET’s suite of SNMP-
based network management applications.
Quickly locating the source of a problem
and correcting it is critical to maintaining
good network performance. The Montage
Network Management System provides all
the information network managers need to
troubleshoot the network and keep it
running smoothly.
Agent modules plug into the hub and
work together with Montage to put
comprehensive analysis and control at the
network manager’s fingertips. Montage’s
powerful graphical interface allows the
network administrator to view the status of
any LANswitch Plus hub and its resident
modules, and to perform remote
configurations through an easy-to-learn point-
and-click user interface.
Montage is fully integrated with such
popular management platforms as
HP OpenView/UNIX, HP OpenView/
Windows, and IBM NetView. All
management agent modules are SNMP-
compliant, allowing LANswitch Plus hubs
to be managed by any SNMP-based
management application.

LANNET’s premiere enterprise switching
hub, the LANswitch Plus LET-36, can be
configured with up to eighteen LAN
segments supporting network connections
for 432 stations. That’s one of the highest
port densities of any hub on the market.
The LET-36 is equally at home in the
wiring closet or serving as the “hub of hubs”
for complex enterprise networks.
The LANswitch Plus LET-20 hub
accom-modates a maximum of ten plug-in
modules. The hub features a retractable fan
tray, a field installable/replaceable backplane
and front loaded primary and backup power
supplies for easy maintenance.
The LANswitch Plus LET-10 hub
houses five module slots and offers the right
amount of connectivity for small workgroups
and remote branch offices without
compromising high-end features.

LANNET LANswitch Plus LET-36/20/10 Enterprise Switching Hubs

  • 1. I N V E S T M E N T P R O T E C T I O N LANNET LANswitch Plus hubs combine any mix of shared and switched LANs, greatly reducing the expense and complexity of migrating to ATM. n today’s highly competitive business environment, corporate networks are experiencing serious bandwidth limitations due to the growing use of increasingly powerful applications, expanding number of users, and emerging requirements for voice, video, and multimedia support. Because of these factors, networking–both as an industry and a technology–is in the process of an evolution to high-speed switching and ATM. However, the process of integrating existing enterprise networks into an ATM environment cannot be achieved overnight. Until then, organizations need a way to meet the increasing demand for network services today, and prepare the foundation for a smooth migration to the ATM networks of tomorrow, while maximizing their current network investment. LANNET LANswitch Plus hubs with their full complement of plug-in modules provide the means to do just that. A F L E X I B L E F O U N D AT I O N The LET-36, LET-20 and LET-10 switching hubs are the foundation for a total networking solution that delivers the right set of features, right when you need them. LANswitch’s modular hub design supports a broad range of network environments and makes it easy for network users to adopt and assimilate high-speed switching technologies and emerging standards, such as ATM, at their own pace. • 2. A D VA N C E D B A C K P L A N E T E C H N O L O G Y The sophisticated backplane architecture found in every LANswitch Plus hub provides the kind of versatile connectivity that enterprise networks need. Each hub backplane supports four Ethernet buses, two Token Ring buses, and one FDDI bus for shared LANs, plus the protocol- independent, 2.56 Gbps Cellenium™ Bus for switched LANs. This unique ability to integrate shared and switched LANs in the same hub allows users to gradually migrate to switched LANs modules that can be mobilized to meet the networking requirements of large organi- zations. These modular, interchangeable components give LANNET customers the ability to create a custom network by mixing and matching a wide variety of switching, connectivity, internetworking, and management modules within the hub. • 3. P E E R L E S S FA U LT – T O L E R A N C E To maintain their competitive edge, companies depend on computer networks for the timely flow of vital information. Network downtime translates into lost productivity, and ultimately lost revenues. That’s why LANswitch Plus safeguards every possible point of network failure. LANswitch Plus hubs feature peerless fault tolerance in the form of: . Redundant bus configurations. . Distributed modular architecture, enabling intelligent functions such as timing, switch processing and backup links of all kinds to be dispersed throughout the hub. . Multiple power sources and backup power supplies that protect against general electrical failure. . Hot Swappable modules. I N V E S T M E N T P R O T E C T I O N LANswitch Plus hubs give network users the flexibility to adopt high-speed switching at their own pace. Performance-boosting LANswitch Plus modules plug directly into the hub chassis, allowing customers to deploy high-speed switching technology where it is needed most by simply swapping modules in and out of the hub. This built-in flexibility also paves a smooth migration path to ATM. In fact, LANswitch Plus is the only hub in the industry that provides easy coexistence and migration from shared LANs–to switched LANs–to ATM, with no hub or backplane upgrade. F U L LY M A N A G E A B L E LANswitch Plus hubs and their full range of modules are monitored and managed by Montage™, LANNET’s suite of SNMP- based network management applications. Quickly locating the source of a problem and correcting it is critical to maintaining good network performance. The Montage Network Management System provides all the information network managers need to troubleshoot the network and keep it running smoothly. Agent modules plug into the hub and work together with Montage to put comprehensive analysis and control at the network manager’s fingertips. Montage’s powerful graphical interface allows the network administrator to view the status of any LANswitch Plus hub and its resident modules, and to perform remote configurations through an easy-to-learn point- and-click user interface. Montage is fully integrated with such popular management platforms as HP OpenView/UNIX, HP OpenView/ Windows, and IBM NetView. All management agent modules are SNMP- compliant, allowing LANswitch Plus hubs to be managed by any SNMP-based management application. T H E M U LT I N E T H U B FA M I LY LANNET’s premiere enterprise switching hub, the LANswitch Plus LET-36, can be configured with up to eighteen LAN segments supporting network connections for 432 stations. That’s one of the highest port densities of any hub on the market. The LET-36 is equally at home in the wiring closet or serving as the “hub of hubs” for complex enterprise networks. The LANswitch Plus LET-20 hub accom-modates a maximum of ten plug-in modules. The hub features a retractable fan tray, a field installable/replaceable backplane and front loaded primary and backup power supplies for easy maintenance. The LANswitch Plus LET-10 hub houses five module slots and offers the right amount of connectivity for small workgroups and remote branch offices without compromising high-end features.
