Arc Surveying & Mapping, Inc. was selected by URS and the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission
to survey Lake Marion in Polk County, Florida. The survey consisted of accurately mapping lake
bottoms and sub-bottoms through submerged vegetation using a variety of devices including
DGPS, dual frequency sonar sounders, ground penetrating radar and sampling systems
including grab and tube samplers. The goal of the project was to determine quantities of
decayed vegetation and sediments to be excavated by dredging. The project was performed on
time and under budget.
