Assessing Compliance with the UK REF 2021 Open Access Policypetrknoth
The recent increase in Open Access (OA) policies has brought forth important questions concerning the effect these policies have on the practice of publishing Open Access. In particular, is there evidence to support that mandating OA increases the proportion of OA outputs (in other words, do authors comply with relevant policies)? Furthermore, does mandating OA reduce the time from acceptance to the public availability of research outputs, and can compliance with OA mandates be effectively tracked? This work studies compliance with the UK REF 2021 Open Access policy. We use data from CrossRef and from CORE to create a dataset containing 1.6 million publications. We show that after the introduction of the UK OA policy, the proportion of OA research outputs in the UK has increased significantly, and the time lag between the acceptance of a publication and its Open Access availability has decreased, although there are significant differences in compliance between different repositories. We have developed a tool that can be used to assess publications' compliance with the policy based on a list of DOIs.

Web accessibility in the institutional repository crafting user centered sub...NASIG
Presented by Jenny Hoops and Margaret McLaughlin.
As web accessibility initiatives increase across institutions, it is important not only to reframe and rethink policies, but also to develop sustainable and tenable methods for enforcing accessibility efforts. For institutional repositories, it is imperative to determine the extent to which both the repository manager and the user are responsible for depositing accessible content. This presentation allows us to share our accessibility framework and help repository and content managers craft sustainable, long-term goals for accessible content in institutional repositories, while also providing openly available resources for short-term benefit.
Despite being controversial, research metrics are becoming a key component of research evaluation processes globally. Nevertheless, accessing research metrics to support these processes in a timely manner is not a straightforward task, as it requires either having access to expensive commercial solutions such as Elsevier SciVal or Clarivate Analytics' InCites, or having substantial knowledge of existing APIs and data sources as well as the ability and skills needed to analyse large amounts of raw scholarly data in-house. This is especially the case on a department or institutional level where large amounts of data have to be aggregated prior to analysis. To alleviate this problem we have designed and prototyped CORE Analytics Dashboard – a tool for analytical evaluation of research outputs of universities. The aim of the CORE Analytics Dashboard is to help universities analyse their performance using a variety of metrics captured from openly available data sources, including citation counts and social media metrics, and to help them compare their performance with other institutions. This paper presents the motivation behind developing this dashboard and its main features.
This presentation was given by Tom Beyer of The Sheridan Group and Athena Hoeppner of The University of Central Florida, at the NISO Annual Meeting and Standards Update on June 25. The event was held as a part of ALA Annual 2021.

Why should you produce a publication meant to be dismembered?
Most college and university magazines are steeped in tradition and treasured by internal audiences. Often edited and designed by a dedicated staff, they’re viewed as singular products with their own identities. But in the digital age, that does not get the job done.
Learn about a business school’s attempt to “blow up” the typical distribution model and create a publication of independent stories that can stand on their own (AND as a cohesive unit.) Learn how Creative Commons licensing has worked (or not) to disseminate this content to the masses.

As transformative agreements emerge as a new standard, it is critical for libraries, consortia, publishers, and vendors to have consistent and comprehensive data – yet data around publication profiles, authorship, and readership has been shown to be highly variable in availability and accuracy. Building on prior research around frameworks for assessing the combined value of open publishing and comprehensive read access that these deals provide, we will address multi-dimensional perspectives to the challenges that the industry faces with the dissemination, collection, and analysis of data about authorship, readership, and value.
Search, Report, Wherever You Are: A Novel Approach to Assessing User Satisfac...Rachel Vacek
In an effort to assess user experience and satisfaction with searching the University of Michigan Library catalog, we developed an online data collection tool that captured both data on user searches and their reports on various aspects of the search experience. We successfully piloted the tool, demonstrating both the usefulness of the assessment data and the readiness of the tool for use with a larger group of campus stakeholders. We focus in this paper on the features and deployment of the data collection tool, and we also discuss our pilot phase findings and our plan to use the tool in future assessment work.

Transforming library collections and supporting student learning with collect...NASIG
This presentation discusses how the use of collection mapping transformed outdated and unbalanced print collections at Florida SouthWestern State College into collections directly supporting student learning. A collection map is a data driven picture of specific areas of library collections. This approach differs from past approaches to collection development as it doesn't focus on a breadth of subject areas striving to develop a large collection of many volumes that students could possibly find useful, but rather, considers various factors including program enrollment figures, reference interactions, and course content to develop a collection that contributes to the quality and integrity of academic programs. The presenter will explain methodologies used, including the creation of collection maps, and share results the project has yielded for FSW's Rush Library.
Supporting the Acquisition of 21st Century Skills through Multimodal Learning...Xavier Ochoa
Collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving are among the skills that are needed to study and work in this 21st century. As important as they are, evaluating, assessing and teaching them in a practical, scalable and efficient way is still a challenge not fully met by current pedagogical-technological practices. Multimodal Learning Analytics (MmLA), the processing and analysis of multiple sources of data to better understand and improve learning processes, has been posed as a possible solution to augment the natural capabilities of both instructors and students to provide and receive feedback to support the development of those skills. During this session, we will explore the affordances that low-cost sensors and current advances in artificial intelligence provide to automatically record and analyze face-to-face, complex learning processes as those involved for the development of 21st-Century Skills. Finally, we will discuss and ideate practical MmLA tools that could be built to augment your current teaching and learning practices.

Education as the meta-problem: Opportunities for Technology R&DXavier Ochoa
Keynote at ECTM 2016: The massification of education at the start of the industrial revolution created an efficient but less effective learning process compared to one-to-one tutoring. The information age has only increased the pressure on the educational system and revealed its shortcomings. However, the same technological advancement can also help the system to be not only more efficient but even more effective than before. During this talk, the impact that applied research in a large array of technological fields (from AI to IoT) could have in understanding and improving the learning process will be discussed.

Acetabularia acetabulum is a single-celled green alga that in its vegetative state is morphologically differentiated into a basal rhizoid and an axially elongated stalk, which bears whorls of branching hairs. The single diploid nucleus resides in the rhizoid.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
