3. Digital signature atau tanda tangan digital adalah
sebuah nilai kriptografis yang bergantung pada
pesan dan pada pengirim pesan. Dengan
menggunakan tanda tangan digital, maka
integritas data dapat dijamin, selain itu tanda
tangan digital juga dapat digunakan untuk
membuktikan asal pesan, dan nirpenyangkalan.

Alice signs a message—"Hello Bob!"—by appending to the original message a version encrypted with her private key. Bob receives both the message and signature. He uses Alice's public key to verify the authenticity of the message, i.e. that the message, decrypted using the public key, exactly matches the original message.
Stallings Figure 13.1 is a generic model of the process of making and using digital signatures. Bob can sign a message using a digital signature generation algorithm. The inputs to the algorithm are the message and Bob's private key. Any other user, say Alice, can verify the signature using a verification algorithm, whose inputs are the message, the signature, and Bob's public key.
In simplified terms, the essence of the digital signature mechanism is shown in Stallings Figure 13.2. This repeats the logic shown in Figure 11.3. On example, using RSA, is available at this book's Web site.
We begin this chapter with an overview of digital signatures. Then, we introduce the Digital Signature Standard (DSS).
Digital signatures work by proving that a digital message or document was not modified—intentionally or unintentionally—from the time it was signed. Digital signatures do this by generating a unique hash of the message or document and encrypting it using the sender's private key
