This proposal outlines a project to develop an ontology for knowledge representation and reasoning in digital libraries. It will introduce key concepts in knowledge management and representation approaches, and discuss benefits and drawbacks of reasoning based on ontologies. The proposed ontology will provide an overview of digital library software options, guidelines for choosing products, and comparisons of features, prices, and licenses to help librarians select appropriate tools. It will be built upon an existing library ontology and maintained by a library consortium.
