Candlenut is a plant native to Malaysia and the Maluku islands that is widely grown in tropical areas. The candlenut plant can reach 15-25 meters tall and produces seeds that are 4-6 cm in diameter. These hard seeds contain 50-60% oil that is high in unsaturated fatty acids, making it a drying oil suitable for use in oil and varnish industries. Candlenut seeds and oil have various traditional uses as medicine, seasoning, and in hair and beauty treatments due to their nutritional properties.
