2. Introduction
 Orthosiphon spp.is a medicinal plant be in
the form of wet trunked and erect.
 It has another name like kidney
teaplants/java tea (english), giri-giri marah
(Sumatera), remujung (Central Java
andEast Java) and songot koneng
(Madura).
 The origin of this plant is from tropical of
Africa, then spread to Asia and Australia.

3.  The classification of kidney tea plant :

◦ Sub division : Angiospermae
◦ Class : Dicotyledonae
◦ Family : Lamiaceae
◦ Genus : Orthosiphon
◦ Species :Orthosiphon spp.

4. Bioactive Compound
 The bioactive compound in kidney tea plant
are sinensetin, flavonoid, 2-flavonol
glycoside, tannic, saponin, potassium salt,
organic acids, tanin, and atsiri oil 0,1%.
 Flavonoid compounds and 2-flavonoid
glycoside are good reductor compound that
can inhibitoxidation, hydroxy radical
reservoir, also have an antioxidant activity
which can treat liver disfunction and prevent
cancer.

5.  Atsiri oil (0,1%) use for cure skin infection
such as itching and dry skin.
 Saponin compound can decrease the
colestrol level.

pressure, whitish, reumathic, and
antibacteria.

6. Application
 Kidney tea plant can be applicated for
food and beverage, they are:

taste and savour.

Kidney tea plant’s dried by solar energy or
oven within 1 – 2 days or until it has 5%
moisture contents. The temperature that
use for oven drying is 50 – 60oC. After the
leaves are dry, it packed with plastic bag
and stored under 30oC.
