Region 3, located in central Luzon, Philippines, is composed of 7 provinces - Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales. It has a total area of 18,230.8 square kilometers and is the largest rice producing region in the country. The region has a diverse landscape ranging from coastal areas to mountains. It also has a variety of cultural festivals, historical sites, natural attractions, and is known for industries like agriculture, aquaculture, and manufacturing. The largest city and regional center is San Fernando, Pampanga.
Aralin 3 - Kaalamang bayan at Araling Filipino
Layunin:
1. Matukoy ang mga kaalamang bayan sa Pilipinas
2. Makagawa ng pananaliksik tungkol sa alamat ng sariling bayan
3. Ayon
sa mga lumang tala, ang dating tawag sa
Gapan ay Ibon. Kung paano ito naging Gapan ay
isang interesanteng alamat: Noong mga panahon
na ang lugar ay kahuyan pa, ang mga Kastila ay
dumating sa isang misyon nang may nakita silang
mga taga-roon at gumagapang. Pinahinto sila at
dahil hindi alam kung paano magsalita ng lokal na
dayalekto ay tinanong sila sa wikang Kastila. Ang
mga taga-roon ay walang alam sa wikang Kastila
at sa pag-aakalang tinatanong kung ano ang
ginagawa nila, sumagot sila sa Tagalog,
"Gumagapang gapang kami." Kinuha itong
pangalan ng mga Kastila at sa paglipas ng
panahon, nawala ang "g" at nanatili ang pangalan
na Gapan hanggang ngayon.

Ayon sa isa pang alamat, ang pangalan ay
nanggaling sa umaakyat at gumagapang na
mga halaman na sagana sa lugar. Ang
Gapan ay itinatag ng mga opisyales na mga
Kastila, na sa simula pa lang, ay may
malawak na kapangyarihan sa mga tao at sa
mga gawain nila. Ang kasaysayan ay
naglagay Gapan bilang isa sa mga unang
bayan ng Pampanga na itinatag noong
kalagitnaan ng ika-16 na dantaon. Ang mga
unang tala tungkol sa unang misyong
Katoliko sa malayong silangan ay nagsasaad
na noong 1595, sina Padre Contres Tendilla,
Caballo at Salazar ay ang mga responsable
sa pagtatanggal ng kakahuyan na
kinalaunang naging pueblo (kastila) o bayan.

Sa pueblong ito, ang simbahan,
presendencia at ang mga kabahayan na
gawa sa mga limo at bloke ay itinayo na
ngayon ay mga ilang daang taon na ang
edad.
Nang dahil sa itinatag ang Gapan noong
1595, ang Gapan ang naging
pinakamatandang bayan sa Nueva Ecija at
isa sa mga pinakamamatanda sa Pilipinas. Ito
ay isang malaking pueblo na ang sakop ay
napakalaki, sapat upang isaklaw
ang Lungsod ng Cabanatuan sa hilaga.
Noong 1942, sinakop ng mga Hapon sa
Gapan, Nueva Ecija. Noong 1945, ang mga
papasok na mga hukbong Pilipino kasama ng
mga gerilya ay binawi ang Gapan.
6. Sa
pamamagitan ng Republic Act 9022 at
ang ratipikasyon nito sa isang plebisito na
isinagawa noong Agosto 25, 2001 ang
bayan ng Gapan ay naging isang
lungsod ng Nueva Ecija. Si Ernesto L.
Natividad ang naging unang alkalde ng
Lungsod ng Gapan.

pangalan na Ibon. Pumunta ang mga Espanyol
dito para sa isang misyon. Kahuyan pa doon
