Capitalism In The Great Gatsby And The Grapes Of Wrath
In America, most of our parents at a very early age that we should be grateful for what we have.
Even with these teachings Americans are finding it hard to do just that. American Capitalism is
built off of the concept that anybody can buy property, open a practice/start a business, and profit
off of it. One thing that both The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgeraldand The Grapes of Wrath by
John Steinbeck teach us is that the system of American capitalismisn t perfect. Both of these books
show both sides of capitalism, those who make it and those who don t. In both books the rich are
ignoring the bad things they inflict on the poor because it makes them richer and more powerful.
As Rick Danko said, As time goes on we get closer to that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

America has been a superpower for about one hundred and ten years. Is it not a coincidence that
about one hundred and ten years ago we as a country started to fully adopt capitalism? Around
that time also America started expanding. Manifest Destiny and expanding our colonial borders
were only able to happen because of the mass amounts of material items we had and the use
/income they provided. It is still one of the reasons why we re still a global superpower and are
home to the best living conditions in the history of mankind. Our poor today still have more money
than the poor people in underdeveloped countries. Even though capitalism is great and had
benefitted the American people in many ways, not everybody has been a winner of the system. No
system can be perfect which is why governments have to learn to adapt and react to situations.
Sometimes the government willingly neglects certain people, or just doesn t know that they haven t
adapted well. For instance, segregation and the Great Depression. In the case of segregation the
government willingly allowed itself to constantly cut down

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Concept
First of all what is a concept and why do we need it?. A concept is a way of categorizing and
organizing things and situations so that the human mind can function well and doesn t break down.
To continue with issue of the status of concept, we have three main options to identify concepts
which are mental representation, abilities and abstract objects.
Concepts as mental representations in which they contain psychological entities and their starting
point has to be from the representational theory of the mind. Where thinking happens in the internal
system of representation, in which beliefs and propositional attitudes enter into the mind as internal
symbols, example : Sue might believe that Dave is taller than Cathy, and also believe that ... Show

According to this theory some concepts and features are better than others. This type of theory has
its connection with Wittgenstein(1953) famous remark, in which things that fall under a same
concept and share a family resemblance can cause similarities and over lapping. The prototype
theory is there to deal and define things that are unexplained in the classical theory like lack of
definitions, objectivity. The prototype also has its disadvantages and limitations. Starting with
categorization when comparing the target object with a prototype, it fits the conceptual category if
there is enough overlap in terms of features. Another problem is compositionality. When a patently
complex concept has a prototype structure, it often has emergent properties, ones that don t derive
from the prototypes of its constituents, example PET FISH encodes properties such as brightly
colored, which have no basis in the prototype structure for either PET or

Kings Cross Fire Research Paper
The kings Cross Fire is one real life example of where design problems have had a negative impact
on a company s relationship with its customers. The incident broke out on Wednesday 18 November
1987 at the major interchange on the London Underground. The devastating incident lead to the
killing of 31 people and around 100 people left with minor injuries.
Around 7:30 a small fire occurred on the escalator serving the Piccadilly line as the fire was still lit
it was then reported by one of the passengers as well as other several passengers, instantly staff and
police went to investigate and confirming the fire to the fire brigade.
Minutes later, the flame grew horribly, producing superheated gas that rose to the top of the shaft
enclosing the escalator, where it was trapped against the tunnel s ceiling. As the superheated gases

The conclusion was that this newly discovered trench effect had caused the fire to flashover at

On 23 November, five days after the fire. The legacy, sub surface Railway Stations regulations

Linkedin Vs. Pinterest Marketing Strategy
As a small business consultant, I am constantly having to change mindsets especially when it comes
to digital marketing. At the top of my battles is hearing small business owners claim that their
customers are not active social media users.
However, if my business customer is on board with adding a social media strategy to their marketing
mix, they feel pretty confident what platforms are not for them. Most of the time the two platforms
they are sure will not lead to sales are LinkedIn and Pinterest.
True, not all social platforms are perfect for each and every business. However, LinkedIn and

Pinterest doesn t like them and will warn those who click on your pin that the link is suspicious

If you are repinning, edit the description to align with your brand. For example, if I run a Thai
restaurant and repin a recipe for Pad Thai I may edit the description to read Similiar to our Seafood

Finally, with the increase of men joining Pinterest, improvements in the search feature have been

Fats in the American Diet Essay
Fats in the American Diet There has been a myth in our society for the last few decades about
fats. Ever since the USDA created the food pyramid in the early 80 s, the feeling towards fats has
been that all types are bad for one s health and should be consumed at a minimum. However, more
recent studies have shown that not all fats are detrimental, and some are necessary in maintaining
healthy bodies. Certain types are helpful for reducing the risk of cancer, high cholesterol, and heart
disease. Without fats the body could not absorb vitamins A, D, E, and K because they help move
the supplements into the bloodstream where the vitamins get absorbed (Graham par. 2). Simple
actions like a regular consumption of nuts, helps aid in lowering... Show more content on

Foods with high fat content were placed at the top of the pyramid and said to be consumed at a
minimum. Foods with lots of carbohydrates were situated at the bottom and became the basis for
the American diet. In turn, the obesity rates for our country sky rocketed. Now it is believed that
some types of fats are good for the body and one of these is monounsaturated fats. There are two
types of unsaturated fats, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. All fats are composed of long
carbon chains with a maximum of two hydrogen atoms attached to each carbon. Monounsaturated
fats have one hydrogen atom missing from the carbon chain while polyunsaturated fats have two
missing (Good Fats par. 3). Polyunsaturated fats come in two types, omega 3 and 6, and these
types will be looked at later. Monounsaturated fats are not essential fatty acids (EFA s) because the
body can make this form from other fats and are commonly found in most of fat rich foods.
Otherwise, essential fats must be consumed through the diet. Monounsaturated fats can be found in
cooking oils like canola, olive, peanut, and almond. Foods with higher levels of monounsaturated
fats are nuts, peanut butter, meat, olives, and avocados. There are many positive aspects of
monounsaturated fats that were not realized years ago. Monounsaturated fatty acids lower total
cholesterol, but more importantly, it lowers low density lipoproteins (LDL s) which is considered
the bad type of

Carbon Nanotubes
Carbon is the fundamental element for everything on Earth. All life on Earth depends on carbon.
Carbon has different forms of allotropes including diamond, graphene and charcoal. Carbon is
found in position 12, with 4 colvalent electrons. All the allotropes have different properties nd uses
due to how the carbonatoms are bonded. Carbon is able to single, double and triple bond with other
elements to form complex molecules. Carbon can also use its four electrons to form diamond,
where it is strong and stable, or three electrons to form graphitefound in pencils, buckyball or all
forms of nanocarbon including carbon nanotube.
Diamond has a giant molecular structure. Each carbon atom is covalently bonded to four other
carbon atoms. Since covalent bonds are so strong, a great amount of energy is required to seperate
the atoms in a diamond, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carbon nanotube have many structures, varing in length, thickness, and number of layers. Carbon
nanotubes are graphene that has been rolled up into a tube shape. Most significant use for carbon
nanotubes is in structural reinforcement. Carbon nanofibres are extremely thin and light weighted,
weighing about twentieth of a gram with one whole kilometer long. However, it was discovered
that nanofibres are the ten times stronger than the strongest material, thus could strengthen almost
any material. One of the significant uses of nanotube is acting as a carrier to transport drugs into
the body. However, the use of nanotube in health care has become a debatable topic in today s
society. Even though a nanotube is able to keep a particaular drug safe in its cage until it reaches a
desired site where it can be released, scientists in Scotland have claimed that inhaling carbon
nanotubes could be just as harmful as breathing in asbestos. They stated that carbon nanotube can
cause mesothelioma, a deadly cancer of the membrane lining in the body s internal

Importance of Louis Armstrong
Louis Armstrong
Louis Armstrong was the greatest of all Jazz musicians. Armstrong defined what it was to play
Jazz. His amazing technical abilities, the joy and spontaneity, and amazingly quick, inventive
musical mind still dominate Jazz to this day. Only Charlie Parker comes close to having as much
influence on the history of Jazz as Louis Armstrong did. Like almost all early Jazz musicians,
Louis was from New Orleans. He was from a very poor family and was sent to reform school
when he was twelve after firing a gun in the air on New Year s Eve. At the school he learned to
play cornet. After being released at age fourteen, he worked selling papers, unloading boats, and
selling coal from a cart. He didn t own an instrument at this time, ... Show more content on

radio announcer refused to mention Armstrong on the air and a free concert that Louis was
going to give to the cities African American population was cancelled at the last minute. Louis
and Lil also separated in 1931. In 1932 he returned to California, before leaving for England
where he was a great success. For the next three years Armstrong was almost always on the road.
He crisscrossed the U.S. dozens of times and returned to Europe playing in Denmark, Sweden,
Norway, Holland and England. In 1935 he returned to the U.S. and hired Joe Glaser to be his
manager. He had known Glaser when he was the manager of the Sunset Cafe in Chicago in the
1920s. Glaser was allegedly connected to the Al Capone mob, but proved to be a great manager
and friend for Louis. Glaser remained Armstrong s manager until his death in 1969.
Glaser took care of the business end of things, leaving Armstrong free to concentrate on his music.
He also hired the Luis Russell Orchestra as Louis backup band with Russell as the musical
director. This was like going home for Armstrong, because Russell s Orchestra was made up of

Bosnian Genocide And Holocaust Similarities
Genocide is one of the worst inventions man has made. More formally known as massacres
before the early 1900s(Cooke welling 69), they have always been very harmful to an ethnicity or
religions growth. The word itself originates from latin roots. The words whole and burned in latin

Many examples in history show multiple times where people have banded together to fight for
the common good, but they might always notice how bad it actually in. This is what happened
in the Bosnian genocide with the world. Nobody actually reacted until the news was spread
worldwide that Serbs killed 8,000 males in Srebrenica( Genocide and 34). This is when the rest
of the world, especially developed countries, saw the need to help these innocent people in
Bosnia. The United Nations tried to help the Bosniaks and Croats who were in severe need of a
rescue but only sent 400 soldiers. The city of Srebrenica had so much violence in it that it was
too spread out for the UN soldiers to make an impact. This resulted in these soldiers getting
criticized around the world for their lack of contribution(36). This was not the case for the
genocide of the Jews. The Jews were at the height of media during the second World War. Hitler
and his Nazi party made headlines week after week with the Holocaust. Many of the countries in
the Allied Powers were shocked to see that something so disastrous could actually happen.Mass
killings were constantly made at every camp. There is an estimated 250,000 Jewish people who

Measuring Chirality in Ibuprofen Using a Homemade Polarimeter

Abstract
For this project, I will be conducting multiple experiments regarding the chirality of different forms
of ibuprofen. The question I m trying to solve is whether or not common brands of ibuprofen have
the same formulation. In order to perform this exercise, I will need to create a homemade
polarimeter in order to measure the angle at which the brands of ibuprofen will reflect light,
resulting in finding out if the chosen brands have a varied rotation of light. I believe that the
different brands will reflect at different angles based off of its chirality. After performing the tests,
the results I have gathered led me to believe that my hypothesis was proven to be wrong. The
Motrin, Advil, and Equate seemed to all get bright in the same areas. The only difference was that
the Motrin was the brightest one out of them all.

Alfred Hitchcock Identity And Identity
The greatest art in films is by the means of the ability to create an emotion in the viewers of the
film and by the means of and imagery. Alfred Hitchcock, for long time, has been a household name
since he began filmmaking. Hitchcock has been able to accumulate a well known and distinct
cinematic techniques making him stand out as one of the best filmmakers around the globe. What
makes Hitchcock s films must watch movies are how he draws his viewers emotion and leave
them in suspense (Maher 246). Hitchcock s The Birds is an American horror filmdropped in 1963.
The film is loosely based on the 1952 story of Daphne Du Maurierand focuses on a sudden series,
unexplained powerful and violent birds attacking the people of Bodega Bay (Maher 247). In this
movie, the fact that viewers do not get to know the details of the birds makes it an interesting but
a suspense film, which evokes thoughts of the audience to know much about the birds. On the
other hand, Identity, which was directed by James Mangold in 2003, revolves around the life of
ten people who seeks refuge in an isolated motel when a vicious storm breaks out in the desert of
Nevada (Falsafi, Khorashad, and Khorashad 2521). As they seek refuge, a serious murderer, Taylor
Vince awaits his execution for killing a group of motel guests. This paper, using terminology
resources and cinematic techniques, seeks to expatriate the similar technique styles adopted in the
two films to enhance suspense. The cinematic techniques

She has done her homework in compiling this book and it shows as she goes back and forth
with the dates of different events. The book also shows maps in the beginning that help the
reader to get a better idea of the geography of the area in the past times along with genealogical
charts that give a clear picture of Muhammad s gene . It s a well written book for an intelligent
person who wishes to be informed.
The main idea or it can be called an argument that Armstrong put forth was to break the wrong
image of the west about the Holy Prophet. She starts describing Muhammad s rising success as a
skilled and respected politician; Armstrong mentions that the Christian world has always judged
this part of the prophet s life with distrust. The Western view has traditionally seen Muhammad s
political success as proof that he was an impostor using religion as a means to power. To explain
this attitude, Armstrong offers the following insight:
Because the Christian world is dominated by the image of the crucified Jesus, who said that his
kingdom was not of this world, we tend to see failure and humiliation as the hallmark of a
religious leader. We do not expect our spiritual heroes to achieve a dazzling success in mundane
terms. (p. 164)
Armstrong depicts Muhammad (saw) in glowing colors, even when she admits his wrongdoings. In
the 8th chapter, Holy War , Armstrong recounts the massacre and summary executions of the

Differential Staining Procedure
There are two types of staining: simple staining and differential staining. Staining is used to identify
unknown bacterium including the structures within it and aseptic techniques should always be
used. Bacterium is a transparent cell. Due to this, bacteria has to be stained and identified to be
categorized. During simple staining, a sample of bacteriais taken from a culture. First, water is
placed on a slide with a loop then, the bacteria is scratched onto the slide. It must dry completely
before it is fixed to the slide with the use of a Bunsen burner. One stain such as crystal violet is
placed on the slide for one minute to add color. Once it has been rinsed off and dried with blotting
paper it can be viewed under a microscope. A differential... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Bhagavad Gita
In The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Bhagavad Gita, gods play an important role in society and the
way of life. In the Bhagavad Gita, people portray their gods as almighty and perfect beings. In
The Epic of Gilgamesh, the Mesopotamian people see their gods as imperfect, human like beings.
The way the people depict their gods, determines how long the religion will last and how much
power the gods withhold. The fact that the gods in The Epic of Gilgameshact a lot like humans, their
power is minimal. For example, Ishtar, the goddess of live and war, falls in love with Gilgamesh
and longs for him sexually. The craving for sex is a very human like trait. Gilgamesh later
denies Ishtar, which shows how degraded the gods really are. Also, in Mesopotamian culture, no
one god is all powerful. After Ishtar is rejected by Gilgamesh, she seeks revenge. Ishtar is not
strong enough to fulfill this task on her own, so she asks Anu, her father for permission to use
the Bull of Heaven. She says, Father, give me the Bull of Heaven, so he can kill Gilgamesh in his
dwelling (54). Anu replies, If you demand the bull from me, there will be seven years of empty
husks for the land of Uruk(54). The conversation between Ishtar and Anu is not very god like and
holds a very human aspect of a conversation you would hear between a mortal father and daughter.
The fact that Ishtar has to ask permission before acting, shows how much power she lacks. Ishtar
then summoned the Bull of Heaven to kill

Topic Topics On Social Psychology
Topics In Social Psychology
Respectfully Submitted by Kaitlin Emmerling
As social animals, human beings interact and influence one another in profound, meaningful ways.
The ways in which we affect each other s behaviors, beliefs and attitudes is defined as social
psychology; it s study can help elucidate how and why we act, think, communicate and behave the
way we do. Topics included under the umbrella of social psychology include: the importance of
human relationships and interactions; the impact of social influences, such as group pressures and
obedience; developmental and situational considerations of prosocial and antisocial behaviors; and
the relationship between our attitudes and beliefs and our behaviors (Lilienfeld, Lynn, Namy ...

507). Irving Janis, a social psychologist, coined the term after studying the decisions by the
Kennedy administration that lead to the failed invasion of the Bay of Pigs in 1961. He noticed that
in group situations, group members may either ignore their own expertice and adopt the opinion of
the majority of the group or simply stay quiet and not raise objections in order to not disrupt the
consensus (Cherry, n.d.).
When dissenting opinions and critical thinking are suppressed, it is not surprising that poor
decisions can arise when groups uniformity is put first. In order to prevent such consequences,
Janis suggested a few ways to avoid falling into the groupthink trap: 1. appoint a person to play
devil s advocate to introduce differing opinions in order to force the rest of the group to consider
other options and think critically about their own beliefs; 2. allow independent experts to attend
group sessions to evaluate the decision making process; and 3. Consider holding a follow up
meeting sometime in the future to allow time for group members to consider and reconsider
whether their initial decision was reasonable or not (Lilienfeld, Lynn, Namy Woolf, 2014, p. 507

Yet another social psychological subject that relates to both our behavior in group settings and
prosocial versus antisocial behavior is a

(z3442576) Thesis Statement During the old kingdom, Ma at was part of the peoples everyday
life, was not just a false façade and advocated social justice and equality. Introduction Ma at s
concept combines numerous factors that assume a complete disassociation in Egyptian
imaginary. Ma at forms the basis for understanding the civilization of Egypt in its entirety and
longevity. Just like Ma at, duality marks the history of Egypt whereby from the ancient
philosophies of the Egyptians to their politics; duality premise has been the order of the day. The
application of this duality helped them unite distinct cultures, while its recognition helped them
to form a lasting civilization that had never been experienced before. In terms of religion, this
dual nature remains by no means as clear as in Ma at. Thus, the dual nature of Ma at may be
revealed in an intangible idea that embraces order, justice and balance, as well as an
anthropomorphic goddess. As the other cultures faced challenges in explaining Ma at concept
through the use of multiple terms, the Egyptians used a single term, an aspect that provided a
practical and positive distinct order principle. Through the Egyptians literature; religious literature,
instructional or even an epic story, revelation of the different faces of Ma at remains evident. In
this sense, Ma at was more than just a goddess or a concept as it personified a

The Hiding Place Corrie Ten Boom Analysis
The virtue of forgiveness is one that Corrie ten Boom sometimes struggles with during her
experiences in her autobiography, The Hiding Place. The harrowing events of the Holocaust
and Nazi occupation of the Netherlands left little room for tenderness towards other people yet,
as Betsie ten Boom, Corrie s older sister showed time and time again, it is always possible to find
it within oneself to forgive another, especially with God s assistance. Betsie forgives Jan Vogel,
the man who betrayed the ten Boom family to the German army. In fact, Betsie feels sorry for
him, she even tells Corrie that she prays for him because he must be suffering dreadfully. This
response makes Corrie feel guilty for being unable to so readily forgive Vogel and eventually...

The family s strong Christian faith contributes to their treatment of others and their belief that
God is watching over them. The family was known for caring for others prior to their

woman she is housing, Annaliese, from harm when she tells German guards the truth about
Annaliese s religious heritage (109). The knowledge that Annalise does escape and that Nollie
was released from prison quickly leads others to believe that maybe her trust was rewarded

gives her Gospels to other inmates when they are standing in the shower lines so that they may

because their presence keeps the guards out of the barracks and makes their little religious

Comparing Dorian Gray And Heart Of Darkness
According to principles explained by Jacques Derrida, binary opposition is the means by which
the units of language have value or meaning; each unit is defined in reciprocal determination
with another term. Derrida adds that, for each center, an opposing center exists (Bressler, 110).
For example, we know truth, because we know deception; we know good because we know bad
(Bressler, 111). Joseph Conrad and Oscar Wilde s use of the binary oppositionof light/dark within
The Picture of Dorian Gray and Heart of Darkness establishes both racial and class tension by
contrasting a superior concept with its inferior. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, setting plays a
major role in displaying class differences within the novel. Darker imagery is used to portray the
East End, or the lower class part of London, while the West End is described as wealthy and
cultured. For example, as Dorian travels through the East End, the chapter begins with, A cold
rain began to fall, and the blurred street lamps looked ghastly in the dripping mist (Wilde, 176).
Further, Wilde uses more dark images to create the scene of the East End. He states, The moon
hung low in the sky like a yellow skull... the gas lamps grew fewer, and the streets more narrow
and gloomy (Wilde, 177). The description of the East End strongly opposes the description of the

Theme Of Transition In A P
One of the most constant rites in the life of man is the transition. Human beings, in their daily
endeavors, are forced to transition from one stage of life to another, including transiting from life to
death. Transition exposes one to real life situations, which without maturity may lead to unexpected
consequences. In the story of A P, through the main character Sammy, John Updike reveals how the
transition could be fatal depending on the level of maturity. The story seems to begin when three
young women walk into A P; a local grocery store located in Northern Boston town, five miles from
the beach; where Sammy works as a cashier, wearing nothing else except their bathing suits. Their
attire immediately attracts the attention of most male workers in the grocery, having an immense
effect on the young teenage man Sammy. Lengel, Sammy s manager, reprimands the ladies,

instance, working at A P was his parents decision. And for the first time, he desires to transition
from this state of life to adult life. He began to understand that he will never become someone s
hero by doing what his parents or Lengel expected him to do. Therefore, the crisis period presents
him as a very reflective person. While this kind of realization was important for him, his immaturity
led him to make the wrong decision, for wrong motives. Sammy openly quits his job with intention
of getting the attention of girls whom he does not know their whereabouts. Updike brings out

Muscle Fatigue Essay
Contrary to what was long thought, muscle fatigue is not due to the accumulation of lactate in our
muscles. Indeed, it is the concentration of H + protons and not the lactate concentration which
intervenes in the acid base modifications responsible for fatigue. Moreover, we know that the most
important production of this latter, results from the hydrolysis of ATP and not glycogenolysis.
However, muscle fatigue depends on many factors and in our time, is still not very well understood.
Indeed, in vitro, the accumulation of H + protons leads to a significant decrease in the cellular pH
(7 в†’ 6) which inhibits the activity of the enzyme regulating glycolysis: phosphofructokinase or
PFK. But in vivo the add of inorganic phosphate (Pi), ADP, AMP... Show more content on

Moreover, always in vitro, this inhibition would entail the stopping of the glycolysis and
consequently the stopping of the synthesis of the ATP, thus a decrease in the contractile force,
synonymous with functional incapacity. Then, the protons would compete with the calcium ions,
preventing them from interacting with the troponin calcium sites. Under these conditions, the
removal of the inhibition exerted at rest by the troponin tropomyosin complex on the formation of
the actomyosin bridges could not be realized: the muscular contraction could not therefore take
place. However, in vivo, two to three minutes of rest are sufficient for the muscle to regain its
functional capacity after stopping by exhaustion following intense exercise causing a large drop in
pH.
Second, lactate is often mistakenly accused of causing muscle cramps. In fact, cramps are caused
by mineral deficiencies or hydromineral imbalances. Indeed, if it was because of the lactate
concentration, every time you do some sports you would be prone to cramps. It is

Soldiers Have Been The Most Significant Part Of An...
Ordinary Soldiers have been the most significant part of an armies structure throughout military
history. They have not only been essential in the continued development of warfare but have also
shown great determination when facing the hardest struggles in combat and an ability to complete
their objectives. However, even though the ordinary soldier continues to fight and to carry out his
orders, he is put through some of the hardest traumas and hardships that the world has ever seen or
known. As a result of this, people question why soldiers continue to risk themselves physically and
mentally in the affairs of others. Although soldiers have been put through extreme ordeals in
combat throughout militaryhistory, the ordinary soldier continues to fight for his sense of duty to
his country, his belief in the cause, and his comrades in arms; furthermore, these reasons
transformed throughout the centuries, as a result of influences such as military, political, and
societal.
Even though soldiers are constantly exposed to extreme trauma and ordeal, they still fight for a
sense of duty to their state. For example, French troops during the French Revolution fought for
their sense of duty to the establishment of a free France. This feeling of responsibility to the state
can be seen in Howard s WarIn European History when it is said that French troops were fighting
as free men to defend freedom (79). Also, a sense of duty to the state can be seen in ordinary

Achromatopsia Research Paper
I decided to choose Achromatopsia as my topic which deals with color perception. Many people
have different forms of color perception. Some people are completely color blind and others are
just lacking a few rods or cones which prevent them from seeing a few colors. Achromatopsia is
among the worst because people who have this may only see in grey or washed out colors.
Whereas, others can see some color and still seem to function normally. This disease can prevent
you from seeing all color, which makes it much more difficult to function in everyday life because
of the lack of color perception one may have.
Achromatopsia is a non progressive and hereditary visual disorder which is characterized by
decreased vision, light sensitivity, and the absence of color vision. In the U.S., it affects about 1 in
every 33,000 people. Achromatopsia is sometimes called Day Blindness , as these people see
better in subdued light. People with complete Achromatopsia will have reduced vision (20/200 or
less) due to an abnormality of the retina. They also have no color vision, sensitivity to light

color vision. A child born with non functioning cones will have Achromatopsia. Sometimes children

long, sword like bills. It includes sailfish and swordfish. They are generally exploited for both

Different Lures For Blue Marlin
Artificial lures, live and natural bait have all been successfully employed to capture the blue

Wolfram Syndrome Essay
Overview Wolfram syndrome Type 1 is caused by a mutation in the WFS1 gene. Wolfram
Syndrome is commonly referred to as DIDMOAD because of the different types of diseases the
mutation of this gene can lead to including diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, optic atrophy, and
deafness. Normally the WFS1 geneproduces the protein wolframin which helps regulate calcium
in the cells, but when it is mutated the resulting protein is inactive or has a reduced function
(AU/ Wolfram syndrome 2015). When this protein is not working correctly organs in the body
will trigger apoptosis or dead of their own cells which then cause the complications that are
known for occurring when the WFS1 gene is altered. Wolframin is also important within many
parts of the body affecting systems like our bones, lungs, liver, pancreas, kidneys, heart and other
organs. Although this is a rare autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disease that is found in one
out of 550,000 children and has a carrier frequency of one in 354 it is important to recognize the
debilitating effects it can have on the body (Aloi et al. 2012). Gene Loci The location of the WFS1

how rare it is and how little amounts of information are known about it. When the child or person
of any age is found to have this mutation the only thing that can really be done is symptomatic and
supportive care by closely monitoring the person s organs and body functions. Luckily trials are
being run in several settings including learning from people who already have the disease and
symptoms to find at the very least some time of prevention or life extending solution to this

Arthur, through his bravery, dedication andcommitment, has earned himself legendary status. I
have often asked myself whypeople still remember such heroes and adore them. Through my
research, I foundthe answer to my question. Firstly, because victors of great battles are
alwaysremembered and secondly, people long for inspirational leadership, leadership thatwill raise
their national pride, their work ethics or more generally, would makethem feel important,
appreciated and as an irreplaceable part of something biggerthan themselves. This is exactly what
Arthur achieved. He made peopleunderstand that a leader is nothing without his people as well as
that the peopleare nothing without their leader. Inspiring people solely through words just doesnot
suffice. Courage, cooperation, determination, bravery, optimism, and honestyare the things that
people will cherish and admire in a hero. Arthur stands as animage of an ideal hero and human
being who, like a messianic figure, willinglyfaces danger, defeats evil, forgives injustice and helps
people in their darkest hour.Consequently, he perfectly fits the warrior archetype.Warriors live by a
personal code that prioritizes self sacrificialservice. They defend the weak while exercising personal
restraint. They are honest about their own limitations, magnanimous towardsdefeated foes and
humble about their own contribution andachievements ... Warriors

Intellectual Traditions in Political Economy
i)In what significant ways does modern liberalism break from classical liberalism s
conceptualization of the market? In your answer, be sure to focus on the principles of classical and
modern liberalism, as well as key 20th century intellectual developments in each tradition. The
definitional conceptualization of the five premises of political economy underscores the differences
classical and modern liberalism. These premises include human nature, society, government,
morality, authority, freedom, justice, and efficiency. For instance, classical liberalismfocuses on
government as a means to the market, while modern liberalism posits government as the end to a

The US Constitution Chapter on the Bills thus did a great deal in guaranteeing liberty by
restricting government s power over citizens privileges and rights but did little or nothing at all in
restricting citizen to non citizen abuses. Away from the issue of slavery, the distinction between
classical and modern liberalism is illustrated by the former s favor of decreased regulatory burden,
low or no tariffs, equal taxation with minimal tax burden, and hence decreased government
expenditures and overall small government. On the contrary, modern liberalism champion a highly
progressive tax system, high minimum wages laws, high taxes to even out the large accumulation
of wealth at the upper class, and protectionism against free international trade. Modern liberalism
hence advocates for the use of government power or machinery to assure equality and autonomy
for all citizens. It contrasts with the earlier classical autonomy of the 18th century where political
power crushed equality and autonomy, where private corporate power to free market, was
championed as an antidote of economic elitism. Active government participation in modern
liberalism hence replaces private corporate power as the regulator of a liberal political economy.
The common principle of classical liberalism is that the greatest possible number of people should
have the greatest possible benefits in the direction taken by their lives. In its

Virtual Reality Essay
Virtual Reality
Being one of the new up and coming technologies of today, we hear about virtual reality all over
but sometimes don t even know what the term really means. Virtual reality is a technology that
allows the user to go beyond the computer screen and enter a three dimensional, computer generated
world (Virtual Reality Resources). In other words, virtual reality is the users interacting with the
computer and actually becoming a part of what is happening in the imaginary world, bringing it to
life. It is actually a simulation of some aspect of the real world that is basically interactive (Tate).
Taking a look at the history of virtual reality it actually began in the late 1950 s with the first

Shortly after Douglas Engelbart s inventions, in 1965, scientist Ivan Sutherland also introduced
himself into the world of virtual reality. He published a paper describing The Ultimate Display and
in doing so set the stage for research on Virtual Reality (Virtual Reality Resources). In Sutherlands
paper, he believed that computers should be more human compatible. The computer graphics
industry later on honored him with the title of father of computer graphics because of his efforts
in 2 D and 3 D images. Sutherland also led to the multi million dollar computer aided design
industry by demonstrating the use of a light pen to draw images on a computer screen. In 1966,
Sutherland also developed the first computer based head mounted display (HMD) (An
explanation). With this device, users were able to navigate through and experience the virtual
world as we do in the real world by seeing, walking, touching, hearing, etc. Because Sutherland s
HMD was so big and couldn t even be used as a headpiece, it wasn t until 1970 that the first fully
functional HMD was completed. NASA actually ended up using these HMD s twenty years later
and are still important today. While Engelbart and Sutherland were busy developing their new
forms of virtual reality, so was Myron Kruegar. Kruegars, on the other hand, was in the form of a
video system and what was later called artificial realities, otherwise known as projected reality. In

Illegal Trafficking Is A Source, Transit, And Destination...
According to the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, Bangladesh is a source, transit, and
destination for human trafficking involving women, men, and children (1). Bangladeshi men and
women are lured into work under false pretenses within their own country or into neighboring
countries (2). A large proportion of cross border trafficking in Bangladesh is due to migration in
search of employment. Most are subjected to forced labor or forced prostitution(3).
Thousands of unreported children are trafficked from Bangladesh to other countries every year
(2). Children who are taken by traffickers often come from impoverished or isolated regions. The
parents are promised that their children will have a well paid job or a nice marriage (4).
Impoverished and desperate, they trust the offers, which ultimately lead their children to be
exploited through trafficking (7).
3)If this is a destination country and/or if there is internal human trafficking, which forms of
trafficking are common in this country? (If you think that there are no forms of trafficking
happening within this country, provide citations about that and some reasons why it is not
happening. The reasons don t have to be proven, but they must be plausible.)
Within the country, trafficked people are subjected to sex trafficking, domestic servitude, or forced
and bonded labor (7).
Girls are commonly trafficked into sexual exploitation or bonded servitude. The sexual exploitation
of boys is a fast growing issue in

Urbanization Of The 21st Century
Introduction
The 21st century is witnessing an increase of the world s population into urban dwellers. Dramatic
movement of people into major towns and cities of the world is caused by rapid sprawl; this is
observed in developed and developing countries. This increasing recognition is inevitable; therefore
the solution to urban problems depends largely on effective planning, infrastructural management
and development. Usually, unplanned population growth is associated to population demands that
supersede infrastructure and service capacity, leading to the degradation of the environment.
Urbanization is important, but its development is effected at the expense of deforestation,
destruction of biotopes, fragmentation of ecosystems, consequently shrinking of the open space
among many other things. A cityshould be a complex system that should entail several interactive
sub systems, it should be affected by various factors including governmental land policies,
population growth, transportation infrastructure, market behavior to mention just a few.
Land use and transportation systems are considered as the two most vital subsystems determining
the long term urban form and structure. Meanwhile, urban growth is one of the most important
topics in urban studies, and its main driving forces are population growth and transportation
development. Rapid urban growth stresses the capacity of governments to provide adequate basic
services such as road network.

Fair Trade Vs. Free Trade
Fair Trade vs. Free Trade
The economic systems free trade and fair trade in like manner apply Foucault s triangle of power
and totalitarian knowledge. Specifically, I will analyze what negative effects the lack of subjugated
knowledge causes within these system s foundations and their future betterment through Foucault s
lessons. As a rule, most of the evil in this world is done by people with the best intentions (T.S.
Eliot). On October 1947, 23 nations in Geneva signed the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade
GATT . This liberated international trade and businesses to begin foreign production investing. The
aforementioned agreement was tremendous for the economy. Numerous countries are Free Trade
countries, including the U.S. Within free trade, goods, capital and services flow unhindered
between nations, without barriers, which would hinder the speed of trading processes. There are
no earning ceilings; citizens from free trade countries may secure as much money as they have the
ability to earn, within the confines of the law. Max Havelaar founded the fair trade model in 1988
under the initiative of the Dutch development agency Solidaridad. And the current face of fair
trade, Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International FLO established in Bonn, Germany with the
intention to unite the national Fair trade organizations under one umbrella and to set worldwide
standards and certification.
Walmart is commonly used to demonstrate the free trade system. Wal Mart is

The Role Of Beringia In The Arctic Geography
Climatic fluctuations led to major changes in the Arctic geography, effectively increasing the
diversification of high latitude organisms, including the lagomorphs that lived in those latitudes, in
the Pleistocene. The organisms expanded into the new available habitats while the glaciers receded.
One of these refugiums, Beringia, in Arctic North America during the glacial maxima, has been
subjected to extensive research while many other refugiums have been hypothesized such as a High
Canadian Arctic refugiums (Waltari et al. 2005). Furthermore, during the last glacial maximum
some coastlines in the High Canadian Arctic were ice free (Waltari et al. 2005). Eurasia was less
glaciated than North America during the glacial maxima, yet a large sheet

Glossolalia Essay
Origin of Glossolalia in Relation to the COGIC Church
Speaking in tongues is an interfaith phenomenon that has roots in the bible, but also has branches in
the environment I was raised in. Growing up in a Church of God in Christ church, which is the
third largest pentecostal denomination in the world, every Sunday morning and Friday night I
would witness people ecstatically break out into tongues after catching the holy spirit. This piqued
my interest in its origin and meaning to the pentecostal church. Glossolalia, also known as speaking
in tongues, is a vital aspect of the pentecostal COGIC church. Looking into glossolalic origins such
as where it came from and its purpose can provide insight into the practices of the pentecostal
COGIC church.
The Church of God in Christ started as a black sect of the Holiness movement in the Mississippi
Valley. The black Holiness movement began in response to the Great Migration of blacks moving
from the rural south to the urban north after changes in the agricultural economy. It gave African
Americans an emotional release through the practices of shouting. Shouting is generally known as
a loud outburst in church after being overwhelmed with the spirit of the Lord combined with fast
dance similar to stepping. Baer says that this practice was popular in the black community as it
provided a temporary spiritual relief from frustrations on racism and poverty. Overall, the goal of
the Holiness movement was to promote sanctification of

Muslim American Stereotypes
Stereotypes of Muslims in America
In the recent years there has been an increase in the number of terrorist attacks and groups such as
9 11, Paris, and Isis . As these attacks get more and more frequent and so does the amount of media
that covers them. When the media reports about these events they can spread untrue, misleading or
misunderstood information. This kind of spread can get cause stereotypes among the American
people.
Even before 9/11, the effects of stereotyping against Muslims has been present. For example in a
Harvard University article about Muslim Americans struggling with stereotypes it states, in the
immediate wake of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, early news accounts included reports of
people of Middle Eastern heritage fleeing the scene; many journalists, experts, and even former
Representative Dave McCurdy linked the bombing to fundamentalist Islamic terrorist groups. In
media such as newspapers they have printed in a way that could be misleading to the reader,
newspaper headlines regularly print the words Islam and Muslim next to words like fanatic, ...

This discrimination has lead to 10 percent wage reduction since 9/11 . This also makes it very
hard to get hired for a job. According to Sound Vision if a Muslim American is hired ...they are the

According to Sound Vision, Muslim establishments have lost about 40 percent of their business
post 9/11. Muslims are frequently being discriminated against. Nearly 75 percent of Muslim
Americans either know someone who has or have themselves experienced an act of anti Muslim
discrimination, harassment, verbal abuse or physical attack since September 11. They are being
discriminated against because of a few extremists in their religion they can t control .(according to

Information From The Sales Sub System
Information from the sales sub system can be used by management in conjunction with information
from the other subsystems to make decisions regarding the direction and day to day operations of
the business. Information from the sales subsystem is vital in the preparation of the income
statement, balance sheet, profit and loss statement. Sales data is also used by management to
manage cash flows and prepare sales budgets and targets. Information can be obtained through
customer satisfaction surveys, feedback from customers via any number of channels including
facebook and customer reviews along with information from the inventory and shipping sub
systems can be used to highlight areas for improvement and aid in planning activities for the
business. If your business is not able to meet the needs and expectations of the customers the highly
competitive nature of the market means that there are many other businesses both online and
traditional retail stores that are more than happy to accommodate them. The information gained
from the sales sub system can be examined on its own to show specific areas where significant
success or failure has occurred. It can just as easily be viewed in conjunction with information from
other sources to aid in the long term planning for the business, identifying potential problem areas
and showing the strengths of the business. Inventory management system: The data in the reports
produced by the inventory system can be used to support

DBQ Essay On CEO Salary
2. There is no world in which the current CEO salaries would be considered justified or rational.
Today, CEOs make about 344 times the average pay of workers which is up from 30 to 40 times
about thirty years ago (Doc A). While they should be rewarded for success and advancing their
business, there is a point where it begins to hurt both the company and the rest of the economy. It
takes money away from taxpayers and is used to increase the personal wealth of millionaires. The
Institute for Policy Studies in Washington found that five elements in the tax code encourage
overpaying executives, which can cost the American people up to $20 billion a year (Doc A). $20
billion is no small sum and could instead be used to increase the standard of living in America.
With this extra taxpayer money, the US could provide healthcare to millions or slash infant
mortality rates across the globe. Instead, it goes into another personal account in the Cayman s. CEO

In the cities around Silicon Valley, property values and rents are skyrocketing as more highly paid
tech workers move in and are able to afford higher costs. This is beginning to force lower wage
workers out of the area, because they can no longer afford to live here. This is a big problem,
because these workers being forced out form the base of the economic pyramid and by throwing
them out local economies lose their stability. In order to make sure that the Bay Area remains
diverse, cities must invest in more affordable housing that will allow these workers to live here.
In the long run, this will only increase the economic benefits for all classes of workers and bring
economic prosperity. As the last few areas in the Bay are becoming gentrified, local governments
must quickly take action before these low wage workers disappear

  • 2. Capitalism In The Great Gatsby And The Grapes Of Wrath In America, most of our parents at a very early age that we should be grateful for what we have. Even with these teachings Americans are finding it hard to do just that. American Capitalism is built off of the concept that anybody can buy property, open a practice/start a business, and profit off of it. One thing that both The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgeraldand The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck teach us is that the system of American capitalismisn t perfect. Both of these books show both sides of capitalism, those who make it and those who don t. In both books the rich are ignoring the bad things they inflict on the poor because it makes them richer and more powerful. As Rick Danko said, As time goes on we get closer to that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... America has been a superpower for about one hundred and ten years. Is it not a coincidence that about one hundred and ten years ago we as a country started to fully adopt capitalism? Around that time also America started expanding. Manifest Destiny and expanding our colonial borders were only able to happen because of the mass amounts of material items we had and the use /income they provided. It is still one of the reasons why we re still a global superpower and are home to the best living conditions in the history of mankind. Our poor today still have more money than the poor people in underdeveloped countries. Even though capitalism is great and had benefitted the American people in many ways, not everybody has been a winner of the system. No system can be perfect which is why governments have to learn to adapt and react to situations. Sometimes the government willingly neglects certain people, or just doesn t know that they haven t adapted well. For instance, segregation and the Great Depression. In the case of segregation the government willingly allowed itself to constantly cut down ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A concept is a way of categorizing and organizing things and situations so that the human mind can function well and doesn t break down. To continue with issue of the status of concept, we have three main options to identify concepts which are mental representation, abilities and abstract objects. Concepts as mental representations in which they contain psychological entities and their starting point has to be from the representational theory of the mind. Where thinking happens in the internal system of representation, in which beliefs and propositional attitudes enter into the mind as internal symbols, example : Sue might believe that Dave is taller than Cathy, and also believe that ... This type of theory has its connection with Wittgenstein(1953) famous remark, in which things that fall under a same concept and share a family resemblance can cause similarities and over lapping. The prototype theory is there to deal and define things that are unexplained in the classical theory like lack of definitions, objectivity. The prototype also has its disadvantages and limitations. Starting with categorization when comparing the target object with a prototype, it fits the conceptual category if there is enough overlap in terms of features. Another problem is compositionality. When a patently complex concept has a prototype structure, it often has emergent properties, ones that don t derive from the prototypes of its constituents, example PET FISH encodes properties such as brightly colored, which have no basis in the prototype structure for either PET or ... • 9. Fats in the American Diet Essay Fats in the American Diet There has been a myth in our society for the last few decades about fats. Ever since the USDA created the food pyramid in the early 80 s, the feeling towards fats has been that all types are bad for one s health and should be consumed at a minimum. However, more recent studies have shown that not all fats are detrimental, and some are necessary in maintaining healthy bodies. Certain types are helpful for reducing the risk of cancer, high cholesterol, and heart disease. Without fats the body could not absorb vitamins A, D, E, and K because they help move the supplements into the bloodstream where the vitamins get absorbed (Graham par. 2). Foods with high fat content were placed at the top of the pyramid and said to be consumed at a minimum. Foods with lots of carbohydrates were situated at the bottom and became the basis for the American diet. In turn, the obesity rates for our country sky rocketed. Now it is believed that some types of fats are good for the body and one of these is monounsaturated fats. There are two types of unsaturated fats, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. All fats are composed of long carbon chains with a maximum of two hydrogen atoms attached to each carbon. Monounsaturated fats have one hydrogen atom missing from the carbon chain while polyunsaturated fats have two missing (Good Fats par. 3). Polyunsaturated fats come in two types, omega 3 and 6, and these types will be looked at later. Monounsaturated fats are not essential fatty acids (EFA s) because the body can make this form from other fats and are commonly found in most of fat rich foods. Otherwise, essential fats must be consumed through the diet. Monounsaturated fats can be found in cooking oils like canola, olive, peanut, and almond. Foods with higher levels of monounsaturated fats are nuts, peanut butter, meat, olives, and avocados. There are many positive aspects of monounsaturated fats that were not realized years ago. Carbon has different forms of allotropes including diamond, graphene and charcoal. Carbon is found in position 12, with 4 colvalent electrons. All the allotropes have different properties nd uses due to how the carbonatoms are bonded. Carbon is able to single, double and triple bond with other elements to form complex molecules. Carbon can also use its four electrons to form diamond, where it is strong and stable, or three electrons to form graphitefound in pencils, buckyball or all forms of nanocarbon including carbon nanotube. Carbon nanotube have many structures, varing in length, thickness, and number of layers. Carbon nanotubes are graphene that has been rolled up into a tube shape. However, it was discovered that nanofibres are the ten times stronger than the strongest material, thus could strengthen almost any material. One of the significant uses of nanotube is acting as a carrier to transport drugs into the body. However, the use of nanotube in health care has become a debatable topic in today s society. Even though a nanotube is able to keep a particaular drug safe in its cage until it reaches a desired site where it can be released, scientists in Scotland have claimed that inhaling carbon nanotubes could be just as harmful as breathing in asbestos. His amazing technical abilities, the joy and spontaneity, and amazingly quick, inventive musical mind still dominate Jazz to this day. Only Charlie Parker comes close to having as much influence on the history of Jazz as Louis Armstrong did. Like almost all early Jazz musicians, Louis was from New Orleans. He was from a very poor family and was sent to reform school when he was twelve after firing a gun in the air on New Year s Eve. At the school he learned to play cornet. Louis and Lil also separated in 1931. In 1932 he returned to California, before leaving for England where he was a great success. For the next three years Armstrong was almost always on the road. He crisscrossed the U.S. dozens of times and returned to Europe playing in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Holland and England. In 1935 he returned to the U.S. and hired Joe Glaser to be his manager. He had known Glaser when he was the manager of the Sunset Cafe in Chicago in the 1920s. Glaser was allegedly connected to the Al Capone mob, but proved to be a great manager and friend for Louis. Glaser remained Armstrong s manager until his death in 1969. Glaser took care of the business end of things, leaving Armstrong free to concentrate on his music. Measuring Chirality At Ibuprofen Using A Homemade Polarimeter Measuring Chirality in Ibuprofen Using a Homemade Polarimeter Sydney Guerin December 9, 2016 May River High School Abstract For this project, I will be conducting multiple experiments regarding the chirality of different forms of ibuprofen. The question I m trying to solve is whether or not common brands of ibuprofen have the same formulation. In order to perform this exercise, I will need to create a homemade polarimeter in order to measure the angle at which the brands of ibuprofen will reflect light, resulting in finding out if the chosen brands have a varied rotation of light. I believe that the different brands will reflect at different angles based off of its chirality. After performing the tests, the results I have gathered led me to believe that my hypothesis was proven to be wrong. The Motrin, Advil, and Equate seemed to all get bright in the same areas. The only difference was that the Motrin was the brightest one out of them all. The main idea or it can be called an argument that Armstrong put forth was to break the wrong image of the west about the Holy Prophet. She starts describing Muhammad s rising success as a skilled and respected politician; Armstrong mentions that the Christian world has always judged this part of the prophet s life with distrust. The Western view has traditionally seen Muhammad s political success as proof that he was an impostor using religion as a means to power. To explain this attitude, Armstrong offers the following insight: Because the Christian world is dominated by the image of the crucified Jesus, who said that his kingdom was not of this world, we tend to see failure and humiliation as the hallmark of a religious leader. We do not expect our spiritual heroes to achieve a dazzling success in mundane terms. (p. 164) Armstrong depicts Muhammad (saw) in glowing colors, even when she admits his wrongdoings. In the Bhagavad Gita, people portray their gods as almighty and perfect beings. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, the Mesopotamian people see their gods as imperfect, human like beings. The way the people depict their gods, determines how long the religion will last and how much power the gods withhold. The fact that the gods in The Epic of Gilgameshact a lot like humans, their power is minimal. For example, Ishtar, the goddess of live and war, falls in love with Gilgamesh and longs for him sexually. The craving for sex is a very human like trait. Gilgamesh later denies Ishtar, which shows how degraded the gods really are. Also, in Mesopotamian culture, no one god is all powerful. After Ishtar is rejected by Gilgamesh, she seeks revenge. Ishtar is not strong enough to fulfill this task on her own, so she asks Anu, her father for permission to use the Bull of Heaven. She says, Father, give me the Bull of Heaven, so he can kill Gilgamesh in his dwelling (54). Anu replies, If you demand the bull from me, there will be seven years of empty husks for the land of Uruk(54). The ways in which we affect each other s behaviors, beliefs and attitudes is defined as social psychology; it s study can help elucidate how and why we act, think, communicate and behave the way we do. Irving Janis, a social psychologist, coined the term after studying the decisions by the Kennedy administration that lead to the failed invasion of the Bay of Pigs in 1961. He noticed that in group situations, group members may either ignore their own expertice and adopt the opinion of the majority of the group or simply stay quiet and not raise objections in order to not disrupt the consensus (Cherry, n.d.). When dissenting opinions and critical thinking are suppressed, it is not surprising that poor decisions can arise when groups uniformity is put first. In order to prevent such consequences, Janis suggested a few ways to avoid falling into the groupthink trap: 1. appoint a person to play devil s advocate to introduce differing opinions in order to force the rest of the group to consider other options and think critically about their own beliefs; 2. allow independent experts to attend group sessions to evaluate the decision making process; and 3. Consider holding a follow up meeting sometime in the future to allow time for group members to consider and reconsider whether their initial decision was reasonable or not (Lilienfeld, Lynn, Namy Woolf, 2014, p. 507 508). Introduction Ma at s concept combines numerous factors that assume a complete disassociation in Egyptian imaginary. Ma at forms the basis for understanding the civilization of Egypt in its entirety and longevity. Just like Ma at, duality marks the history of Egypt whereby from the ancient philosophies of the Egyptians to their politics; duality premise has been the order of the day. The application of this duality helped them unite distinct cultures, while its recognition helped them to form a lasting civilization that had never been experienced before. In terms of religion, this dual nature remains by no means as clear as in Ma at. Thus, the dual nature of Ma at may be revealed in an intangible idea that embraces order, justice and balance, as well as an anthropomorphic goddess. As the other cultures faced challenges in explaining Ma at concept through the use of multiple terms, the Egyptians used a single term, an aspect that provided a practical and positive distinct order principle. Through the Egyptians literature; religious literature, instructional or even an epic story, revelation of the different faces of Ma at remains evident. Comparing Dorian Gray And Heart Of Darkness According to principles explained by Jacques Derrida, binary opposition is the means by which the units of language have value or meaning; each unit is defined in reciprocal determination with another term. Derrida adds that, for each center, an opposing center exists (Bressler, 110). For example, we know truth, because we know deception; we know good because we know bad (Bressler, 111). Joseph Conrad and Oscar Wilde s use of the binary oppositionof light/dark within The Picture of Dorian Gray and Heart of Darkness establishes both racial and class tension by contrasting a superior concept with its inferior. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, setting plays a major role in displaying class differences within the novel. Darker imagery is used to portray the East End, or the lower class part of London, while the West End is described as wealthy and cultured. For example, as Dorian travels through the East End, the chapter begins with, A cold rain began to fall, and the blurred street lamps looked ghastly in the dripping mist (Wilde, 176). Further, Wilde uses more dark images to create the scene of the East End. Indeed, it is the concentration of H + protons and not the lactate concentration which intervenes in the acid base modifications responsible for fatigue. Moreover, we know that the most important production of this latter, results from the hydrolysis of ATP and not glycogenolysis. However, muscle fatigue depends on many factors and in our time, is still not very well understood. Indeed, in vitro, the accumulation of H + protons leads to a significant decrease in the cellular pH (7 в†’ 6) which inhibits the activity of the enzyme regulating glycolysis: phosphofructokinase or PFK. Under these conditions, the removal of the inhibition exerted at rest by the troponin tropomyosin complex on the formation of the actomyosin bridges could not be realized: the muscular contraction could not therefore take place. However, in vivo, two to three minutes of rest are sufficient for the muscle to regain its functional capacity after stopping by exhaustion following intense exercise causing a large drop in pH. They have not only been essential in the continued development of warfare but have also shown great determination when facing the hardest struggles in combat and an ability to complete their objectives. However, even though the ordinary soldier continues to fight and to carry out his orders, he is put through some of the hardest traumas and hardships that the world has ever seen or known. As a result of this, people question why soldiers continue to risk themselves physically and mentally in the affairs of others. Although soldiers have been put through extreme ordeals in combat throughout militaryhistory, the ordinary soldier continues to fight for his sense of duty to his country, his belief in the cause, and his comrades in arms; furthermore, these reasons transformed throughout the centuries, as a result of influences such as military, political, and societal. Even though soldiers are constantly exposed to extreme trauma and ordeal, they still fight for a sense of duty to their state. For example, French troops during the French Revolution fought for their sense of duty to the establishment of a free France. This feeling of responsibility to the state can be seen in Howard s WarIn European History when it is said that French troops were fighting as free men to defend freedom (79). • 37. Achromatopsia Research Paper I decided to choose Achromatopsia as my topic which deals with color perception. Many people have different forms of color perception. Some people are completely color blind and others are just lacking a few rods or cones which prevent them from seeing a few colors. Achromatopsia is among the worst because people who have this may only see in grey or washed out colors. Whereas, others can see some color and still seem to function normally. This disease can prevent you from seeing all color, which makes it much more difficult to function in everyday life because of the lack of color perception one may have. Achromatopsia is a non progressive and hereditary visual disorder which is characterized by decreased vision, light sensitivity, and the absence of color vision. In the U.S., it affects about 1 in every 33,000 people. Achromatopsia is sometimes called Day Blindness , as these people see better in subdued light. People with complete Achromatopsia will have reduced vision (20/200 or less) due to an abnormality of the retina. They also have no color vision, sensitivity to light (photophobia) and the presence of nystagmus (shaking of the eyes). People with incomplete or partial Achromatopsia may have ... • 40. Wolfram Syndrome Essay Overview Wolfram syndrome Type 1 is caused by a mutation in the WFS1 gene. Wolfram Syndrome is commonly referred to as DIDMOAD because of the different types of diseases the mutation of this gene can lead to including diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, optic atrophy, and deafness. Normally the WFS1 geneproduces the protein wolframin which helps regulate calcium in the cells, but when it is mutated the resulting protein is inactive or has a reduced function (AU/ Wolfram syndrome 2015). When this protein is not working correctly organs in the body will trigger apoptosis or dead of their own cells which then cause the complications that are known for occurring when the WFS1 gene is altered. Wolframin is also important within many parts of the body affecting systems like our bones, lungs, liver, pancreas, kidneys, heart and other organs. Although this is a rare autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disease that is found in one out of 550,000 children and has a carrier frequency of one in 354 it is important to recognize the debilitating effects it can have on the body (Aloi et al. 2012). The US Constitution Chapter on the Bills thus did a great deal in guaranteeing liberty by restricting government s power over citizens privileges and rights but did little or nothing at all in restricting citizen to non citizen abuses. Away from the issue of slavery, the distinction between classical and modern liberalism is illustrated by the former s favor of decreased regulatory burden, low or no tariffs, equal taxation with minimal tax burden, and hence decreased government expenditures and overall small government. On the contrary, modern liberalism champion a highly progressive tax system, high minimum wages laws, high taxes to even out the large accumulation of wealth at the upper class, and protectionism against free international trade. Modern liberalism hence advocates for the use of government power or machinery to assure equality and autonomy for all citizens. It contrasts with the earlier classical autonomy of the 18th century where political power crushed equality and autonomy, where private corporate power to free market, was championed as an antidote of economic elitism. Active government participation in modern liberalism hence replaces private corporate power as the regulator of a liberal political economy. The common principle of classical liberalism is that the greatest possible number of people should have the greatest possible benefits in the direction taken by their lives. In its ... Dramatic movement of people into major towns and cities of the world is caused by rapid sprawl; this is observed in developed and developing countries. This increasing recognition is inevitable; therefore the solution to urban problems depends largely on effective planning, infrastructural management and development. Usually, unplanned population growth is associated to population demands that supersede infrastructure and service capacity, leading to the degradation of the environment. Urbanization is important, but its development is effected at the expense of deforestation, destruction of biotopes, fragmentation of ecosystems, consequently shrinking of the open space among many other things. A cityshould be a complex system that should entail several interactive sub systems, it should be affected by various factors including governmental land policies, population growth, transportation infrastructure, market behavior to mention just a few. Land use and transportation systems are considered as the two most vital subsystems determining the long term urban form and structure. Glossolalia Essay Origin of Glossolalia in Relation to the COGIC Church Speaking in tongues is an interfaith phenomenon that has roots in the bible, but also has branches in the environment I was raised in. Growing up in a Church of God in Christ church, which is the third largest pentecostal denomination in the world, every Sunday morning and Friday night I would witness people ecstatically break out into tongues after catching the holy spirit. This piqued my interest in its origin and meaning to the pentecostal church. Glossolalia, also known as speaking in tongues, is a vital aspect of the pentecostal COGIC church. Looking into glossolalic origins such as where it came from and its purpose can provide insight into the practices of the pentecostal COGIC church. The Church of God in Christ started as a black sect of the Holiness movement in the Mississippi Valley. The black Holiness movement began in response to the Great Migration of blacks moving from the rural south to the urban north after changes in the agricultural economy. It gave African Americans an emotional release through the practices of shouting. Shouting is generally known as a loud outburst in church after being overwhelmed with the spirit of the Lord combined with fast dance similar to stepping.
