Kanban method in four easy steps. Enjoy kanban.
Kanban in 4 easy steps is one of the most popular Kanban presentations. Learn how to successfully implement Kanban in your business process or life. Get to know basic Kanban principles and to see how easily you can improve your productivity using Kanban boards.
Kanban is the simplest approach which is currently used in software development. Since Kanban prescribes close to nothing there are often a lot of basic questions about the method.
The presentation depicts what Kanban is generally using Scrum as a reference point. Then it presents a series of situations to answer basic questions about working with Kanban
Kanban 101 workshop by John Goodsen and Michael Sahota.
This covers everything you will need to know to play Russell Healy's Kanban Game: visualizing the work, metrics, and creating explicit policies.
Slides are available on request. Please email me.
In this presentation, Roni explains the basics of Kanban and the principles governing the application of Kanban for process improvement. We also look at a comparison between Scrum and Kanban and visit the basic differences between them.
It includes pointers telling what’s wrong with the current system, history of Kanban, introduction to Kanban, benefits of using Kanban, practices used in Kanban, principles of Kanban, how is Scrum different from Kanban. The tutorial begins with details about the current system and what’s wrong with it. It includes pointers like burnout, low throughput, unidentified bottlenecks, too much work which tell what’s wrong with the current system.
Followed by is a section about the history of Kanban which includes points like how the name originated, who discovered it, design, visual signals, based on which system. Resulting in an introduction section which talks about Kanban, what method it uses, scheduling system, what it consists of, amount of work, identification etc. Next comes the benefits section which includes the benefits of using Kanban like helps in visualizing the system, allows to evaluate, identify bottlenecks, establish trust in process etc.
Afterwards there is a section about Kanban practices. It includes practices used in Kanban like visualize, limit WIP in each phase of development, managing flow by keeping it under monitor, make policies explicit, improve collaboratively through the use of scientific models and some terms like lead time, cycle time, throughput etc. Moreover, it also includes the board for easy visualization, story card for keeping track, charts for measurement, control charts to measure average time taken for each task, cumulative flow diagrams showing relative amount of work.
Then comes the principles of Kanban. It includes principles which should be used in Kanban like agree to pursue incremental, evolutionary change, optimize what already exists, respect the current process, roles, responsibilities, leadership at all levels to empower the workforce to bring about change. The last section of this tutorial is Scrum vs Kanban. It explains how scrum is different from Kanban by giving pointers like Scrum prescribes roles, time boxed iterations, backlog items must fit, limit WIP in a different way. It also includes pointers giving reason why it shouldn’t matter because emphasis should be on the goal and not the tool.
Kanban is a tool that allows you to fully visualize the status of your processes through a board with dynamic columns that make all tasks and processes steps clear.
Finding a way to do things more efficiently is important - no matter what business you are in or what kind of projects you do.
Check out the basic Kanban principles that might change the way you work.

Imported from Japan, Kanban is an agile methodology that is gaining a lot of traction. Kanban, or Japanese for signal card, is a process that focuses on transparency and limiting the work in progress. By utilizing Kanban, you can pinpoint the bottlenecks and address them easily. In this session you will learn what Kanban is, how it evolved from its roots in the Toyota Production System (TPS) and lean manufacturing to software development, Kanban’s benefits, and how best to implement a Kanban system. We’ll also discuss when not to use Kanban and how to modify other agile methodologies, such as Scrum, to be used in conjunction with Kanban.
This file introduces the principle of Kanban and pull system. In the rest of the file, we concentrate on Kanban and introduce the types of Kanban, six rules for an effective kanban system, the number of Kanban card and kanban circulation.

Kanban boards have become popular among many companies from different industries. This presentation contains several Kanban boards examples by Kanban Tool, along with a brief description of the application.
While Kanban is gaining more and more traction in the tech industry, we start to experience the same challenges as when the popularity of Agile started to rise. People get interested and ask "What is this Kanban thing I see popping up everywhere?". As soon as they learn the basics about it, the human brain does what it always does when processing information. It compares to what it already knows. This is where we lose our ability to learn something without prejudice. We come up with arguments why these new idea are not as good as the ones we are used to. In this presentation, I will cover 5 of the most common arguments against Kanban and explain why they are flawed, by exploring Kanban in depth. You will learn how to respond to these questions and get a more profound knowledge on the foundations of Kanban.
These slides are some examples on how to use and create a workable Kanbanboard.
We have used some kind of stop-motion-animation and the intent is that you should move through the slides fairly quickly for best effect.

Portfolio Kanban - Seeing the Big Picture Sandy Mamoli
Doing too many things at once can slow an entire organisation down. As every successful organisation will have more great ideas than they have capacity to build, it is tempting to start too many of them at the same time. However, too many projects in progress will slow down delivery of each and every one of them.
So, how can we make sure we work to our organisational capacity and don’t try to do too much? How do we make sure we’re working on the important and not just the urgent stuff? This is where Portfolio Kanban can help: In this session we will explore how Portfolio Kanban can help an organisation prioritise, plan and visually track its projects.
Through the example of Trade Me, New Zealand's biggest e-commerce site, I will demonstrate the practical application of Portfolio Kanban. I will explore how Trade Me have benefitted from the increased visibility and reduced work in progress, and how they are using Portfolio Kanban to direct the organisation’s Agile teams. Come along and enjoy tales of our successes, challenges and struggles on our (still continuing) journey towards awesome portfolio management.

Kanban - agile method to balance workload.Dr. Gil Dekel
Kanban helps employees know how their work works. The method facilitates a design management and enterprise alignment, to minimise delays.
Kanban (Japanese for ‘visual signal’ or ‘card’) was developed by Toyota to help define, manage and improve services through the use of whiteboards. The boards act like mirrors, in that they ‘reflect’ the organisation’s current flow of work.
Since the brain processes visual information 60,000 times faster than text, Kanban Method uses a visual system to improve communication in organisations. Using sticky notes on a whiteboard helps to create a ‘picture’ of your work.

Flink Forward SF 2017: Dean Wampler - Streaming Deep Learning Scenarios with...Flink Forward
As a low-latency streaming tool, Flink offers the possibility of using machine learning, even "deep learning" (neural networks), with low latency. The growing FlinkML library provides some of the infrastructure support required for this goal, combined with third-party tools. This talk is a progress report on several scenarios we are developing at Lightbend, which combine Flink, Deeplearning4J, Spark, and Kafka to analyze cluster telemetry for anomaly detection, predictive autoscaling, and other scenarios. I'll focus on the pragmatics of training deep learning models in a streaming context, using batch and mini-batch training, combined with low-latency application of those models. I'll discuss the architecture we're using and highlight trade offs of particular tools for certain design problems in the implementation. I'll discuss the drawbacks and workarounds of our design and finish with a look at how future developments in Flink could improve its support for scenarios like ours.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

13. step 2
Limit work in progress
.
With two hands you can juggle only few balls
before you start dropping them
www.flickr.com/photos/philliecasablanca/2584411389
14. At 100% capacity you have minimal throughput
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lingaraj/2415084235
15. And Kanban is all about maintaining flow
and eliminating waste.
waste.
www.flickr.com/photos/cefeida/4109239083
16. Start by putting limits on columns
in which work is being performed
17. WIP Limits aim to enforce a high, smooth flow of work
and eliminate different kinds of waste
19. After you introduce the WIP limits you can try to
propagate them back through the workflow,
observe results and adapt.
Getting limits right takes time,
so start with your best guess and fine-tune over time.
The ultimate goal is to achieve
constant, high throughput and personal / team performance.
20. step 3
Don't push too hard
Pull instead
photo adapted from www.flickr.com/photos/stevendepolo/3212039475
21. It's easy to get friction between different teams,
especially when one is more performant...
22. … and pushes more work than
another one can actually handle.
23. A solution to this is a pull system,
system,
where next team pulls work only when ready for it.
24. You can implement pull system by adding
a limited capacity buffer between teams.
25. step 4
Use it!
- then -
Monitor, adapt and improve
.
26. The best tool to measure Kanban performance is
Cumulative Flow Chart
27. Each day, for each column, mark how many tasks
are in it or somewhere further down the workflow.
This will produce a mountain-like looking chart, which gives insight into
the process, shows past performance and allows to predict future results
28. One of the many things you can read from it is the
mean time for task to get through the workflow
www.slideshare.net/yyeret/explaining-cumulative-flow-diagrams-cfd
Note that without limit on Work In Progress,
the Mean Cycle Time tends to increase drastically ...
29. … eventually leading to the dreaded waterfall model
