Investigating Concepts Of A Digital Device Essay
The purpose of this assessment is to investigate concepts relating to a system that is used within a
digital device. For my assessment, I chose the A5158 model MP3 player that belongs to my dad.
The features of this device include:
High Contrast LCD Display, Resolution 96 x 32
Integrated Flash Memory
Plays MP3 and WMA Digital Music Files FM Radio
4GB Stores up to 1000 songs
USB 2.0 Hi Speed for fast file transfers
Key lock preventing accidental key presses
Integrated 100mAh Lithium rechargeable battery for up to 5 hours playback
Data Representation
In computer terms, a bit is a numeric value either a zero or a one that holds a single unit of digital
information. Bits are usually strung together in a sequence eight bits normally equals one byte. Bits
are used to write binary numbers, which can be used to store decimal numbers such as 244 or 93 as
patterns of ones and zeroes.
ASCII or American Standard Code for Information Interchange is a computer code that was developed
to allow computers to convert human text into bits that computers could understand. In ASCII code,
for example, the letter A is 65 a number that can then be converted into the binary value 1000001.
In the 1960 s, the 7 bit ASCII table was first adopted. Within a 7 bit number, 128 different characters
can be stored English letters from A Z (upper and lower case), numeric digits from 0 9 and special
characters such as !/*+. The eighth bit was used to detect transmission errors.

Case Study on Sears Essay
SEARS CASE STUDY by Robert A.G. Monks and Nell Minow Introduction The great advantage of
publicly held companies is that they bring together capital and managerial expertise, to the benefit of
both groups. An investor need not know anything about making or marketing chairs in order to invest
in a chair factory. A gifted producer or seller of chairs need not have capital in order to start a
business. When it runs well, both profit, and the capitalist system achieves its goals. Our system of
capitalism has been less successful when the company does not run well. As some of America s most
visible, powerful, and successful companies began to slide, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In a survey of business leaders, Sears management was ranked 487 out of 500.3 It was no secret that
the company s performance was poor, both in comparison to the market as a whole and in comparison
to its peers. But all of that was not enough to get management to change direction. What could the
shareholders do? They could sell out, as many of them did, even at a loss, but as noted above that does
not force the company to improve. Those whose stake was big enough to merit some attempt at
communicating with management tried that, too, but with little success. Sears s twelve largest
investors met with CEO Ed Brennan and retail chief Michael Bozic in August of 1990. Brennen and
Bozic gave an upbeat assessment of the corporation s plans. But the investors wanted more than rosey
projections. They cited a grim share performance value had dropped 15 points since 1989 and gave
Brennan one year to achieve marked improvement in retail, or to look for another job. Brennan fired
Bozic, and promised to make cuts. But it was too little, too late, and the shareholders were not
satisfied. In early December, the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), holder
of 2.2 million shares, voiced its concern about Sears s performance, citing depressed stock and the
failure of retailing strategies. CalPERS message, says CEO Dale Hanson, was simple: From 1984 on,
Sears went to hell

The Grid Model And Its Contribution To International...
Question 1
This case is review of the grid model and its contributions to international organizational
development. It talks about how Grid International design its learning process such that it combines
leadership styles with self convincing learning methodology that creates motivation to change and
organizational development. The Grid has seven leadership styles that are based on varying concern
for people and results. The Grid approach to change takes a four step organization development
process that builds a culture of mutual trust respect and candor through discussion of personal values,
norms and behaviors against soundest behaviors needed to accomplish standard of excellence set by
participants themselves. The process begins with individual development, then move to intact team
development, group to group development and organization strategic planning. Grid international
approach to organizational development is applied by many organizations around the globe.
Question 2
Performance management performed by human resource leaders which aim at enhancing motivation
and production exhibits trait of the sound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this phase, there is the development of group to group relationships. Team to team conflicts are
resolved and a cooperative relationship is build based on mutual trust and respect. Management and
unions shared understanding of cross functional roles and develop standard of excellence for working
together. The standards of excellence for working together is the collective agreement between
management and unions.
The concept of strategic human resource planning is seen in the final stage of Grid approach to
organizational development. In this stage where companies take full advantage of people common
language, standards of excellence, and skills in place to undertake organizational wide strategic
planning, it shows strategic human resource planning.

The Red Planet And Space Travel Essay
Humans have been studying space for over two thousand years; whether it be for naming stars,
looking for and creating constellations, studying the moon and its phases, studying other planets in our
solar system; the list goes on. Humans are always interested in space and the many mysteries with it.
Humans love learning more about space so we sent humans to our own moon to help understand more
about space. Yet we had plans to get to Mars four years before we even landed on the moon. How did
we have plans to get to Mars before we even landed on the moon? Wernher von Braun has been
interested in the red planet and space travel since he was in college. Many years after college, Braun
still had his dream of making it to Mars. Braun then wrote a novel in 1949 with plans of traveling to
Mars in 1965. This plan obviously has not happened yet, but humans then gained more interest in the
red planet. Plans of traveling to Mars has been steadily increasing and changing over time; from Braun
s first plans to NASA new plans and the change of technology that has helped us humans get closer to
the dream of stepping foot on the red planet.
We do not know where this journey will end, yet we know this human beings are headed into the
cosmos[space]. Mankind is drawn to the heavens for the same reason we were once drawn into
unknown lands and across the open sea. We chose to explore space because doing so improves our
lives and lifts our national spirit. (Doeden, 10) This quote came from

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hedging Pros...
Advantages According to Goel and Gutierrez, they investigated that fluctuating procurement price is
one of the causes of inventory risk and through trading appropriate numbers of futures or forward
commodity contracts reduces inventory related costs for effective hedging. Hedging and the price
discovery functions of futures markets facilitates not only a better inventory management but
enhances the efficiency of marketing operations, production and storage. Another advantage to
hedging is that it insulates companies from volatile price movements and ensures stable revenue
income as price volatility can have an adverse effect onto revenue and disrupt cash flows.

The Importance of Voting
Importance of Voting Introduction The importance of voting is a fundamental aspect of a democracy.
The United States is a constitutional republic in which the population votes on who represents them as
their leaders. The populace votes on leaders in the legislative, judicial and executive branches that
serve in a plethora of different positions in the government. The people in these positions will
determine things like laws that are drafted that will help to shape the nation. Some of the current
issues that politicians may be deciding upon might be abortion, capital punishment, gay rights, civil
rights, among others. Furthermore, many of the higher offices actually have the right to appoint
various other representatives such as judges and justices. Since the representatives will make decisions
that will affect nearly everyone in the country, the importance of voting on the representatives cannot
be understated. Importance of Voting It can be argued that voting for a candidate hardly ever makes a
difference. For example, it is rare that anyone of the elections is decided by one or two votes.
Therefore, when someone votes for a candidate and that individual wins or loses by a significant
margin, something in the tens of thousands or even in the millions, then voting for the candidate did
not make a difference in the election. This perspective is actually likely true in most situations. It is
incredibly rare that an election is ever decided by slim margin. It is

The Drilling Of Fshore Drilling Industry
The offshore drilling industry can be split into 5 key markets: upgrade market, contract drilling
market, second hand market, scrap market and contract drilling market. Among them contract drilling
market is most important, because it ensures smooth cash flow between markets. drilling units is
summarised in the table below.
The table above describes cash flow within offshore drilling markets. Contract drilling market leases
drilling units to O G companies to drill or service wells, in turn they receive day rates. The day rate is
the daily price to lease a rig and includes the use of the rig and its crew but does not include most of
the other costs associated with drilling and completing a well (e.g., casing, drilling fluids, logistics,
well evaluation, etc.). The drilling service industry is the largest and most closely followed of the five
markets and drives the activities of investors in the other markets.
The new build market uses shipyard labour and capital to convert steel and third party equipment into
rigs. Drilling contractors enter into turnkey contracts with shipyards for the construction and delivery
of one or more rigs, or yards may build on speculation. The new build market is primarily Asian with
major shipyards in Singapore, South Korea, and China.
The upgrade market is a ship repair market which both upgrades and maintains rigs. Upgrades
improve and modernize rig technology and represent significant capital expenditures.
In the second hand market, rigs are

The Theory Of The Quantum Computation Model
Living in a world where computers have solved some of the world s biggest problems and
revolutionised the way science and technology function in our day to day lives there still exists a
number of problems that even classical computers cannot solve or take an incredibly large amount to
do so. For example RSA encryption works on the basis that factoring large numbers takes incredible
amounts of time even the most sophisticated classical factoring algorithms take unrealistic amounts to
factor large numbers such as the ones used in RSA cryptography. The theory of the quantum
computation model takes advantage of quantum mechanics to solve problems that normal computers
cannot solve and solve problems much faster in reasonable amounts of time. ... Show more content on

However if we were to multiply the vector |ψ by e^iϕ, puts the vector psi in a state that we cannot
define. A system with an N number of qubits is described by a unit vector C^2⊗C^2⊗...⊗C^2
repeated N number of times each C^2 is the space of one single qubit with the basis |0 and |1 the space
is denoted by B^(⊗n) the basis state for the space are all products of the form |X_1 ⊗|X_2
⊗...⊗|X_n while X is an element of a real number of zero or one. Having these basis states the N
qubit system can be represented in the form ∑_(〖xϵ{0,1}〗^n)▒〖a_x |x .〗
Example 1: We have a quantum system composed of 2 qubits we can then write the vector including
all the possible states like this |ψ = α_00 |00 + a_01 |01 + α_10 |10 +α_11 |11 .

function f: (0,1) is f one one meaning the does the function return the same value when two different
inputs are given, generally we would solve this by inputting 0 and then inputting 1 if both outputs are
the same then f is one one. However, we could also solve this problem with only one input. We do this

The Species Corvus Corax
The species Corvus corax is well known and recognized as one of the smartest animals in the world.
Many studies have been conducted in investigating sophistication of its cognitive processes in recent
years. A good number of them support this withstanding belief of high intelligence. Others reveal gaps
in factors of their intelligence that were not previously presumed.. Pfuhl (2012), Schied Bugnyar
(2008) and Boeckle Bugnayr (2012) studies show very proficient spatial reasoning and memory in
ravens. On the contrary, other studies like Scholegl et al. (2008) and Albiach Serrano et al. (2012)

cognitively gifted animals. Although even with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the recent decades, this theory of high intelligence has gone under much research and
experimentation to intent to establish the extent of corvid cognition. Multiple studies have been
conductive on Corvus corax examining its cognitive abilities. They have related these abilities to the
species phenology and evolution along with other cognitively gifted animals, such as apes (van Horik
et al. 2012). While the belief of high intelligence remains relatively true for certain cognitive aspects
such as spatial reasoning and memory, these corvids prove less competent in the areas like contextual
understanding and problem solving with patterns.
Literature Review
Well Developed Cognitive Processes Reasoning. Spatial reasoning plays into the concept of
intelligence and it aids to the survival of organisms. It is useful to know one s orientation in the world
and being able to draw inferences from another object s or organisms orientation. In a 2012 study
conducted by Gerit Pfuhl, ravens were tested in their spatial and causal reasoning based on pulling a
set of strings. The major factor of this was which of the strings they decided to pull. The procedure
was to attach meat and/or a weighted object (i.e., a small block of wood) to strings, alternating the
position of the food and wood in the string and putting the strings at a certain height. The strings were

Jane starts a conversation with Helen, a student who was flogged without reason. She can t understand
why Helen would bear the pain and not rebel.
Jane s rebellious nature can be seen in this passage. She has a hostility towards violent authority. This
is most likely caused by her time spent at the Reeds where she was constantly treated without respect.
And if I were in your place I should dislike her; I should resist her. If she struck me with that rod, I

Though revenues have increased by 3.8 percent over the 2009 revenues of $45,189 million, Lockheed
Martin s ranking has dropped from 44 in the 2010 Fortune 500 list (CNNMoney, 2011). So far in
2011, Lockheed Marin is positioned to have a great year. Its 2011 third quarter report shows net sales
at $12.1 billion, compared to the $11.3 billion in third quarter 2010. Continuing operations also grew
19 percent to $665 million, compared to $557 million in 2010. The CEO, Bob Stevens, stated that this
strong third quarter is the result of the company s focus to aggressively reduce costs while still
delivering value and support to its customers. Though there is still challenging global security and
economic issues, Stevens expects continued growth for 2012 (LMC, 2011).

Lockheed Martin Corporation relies heavily on defense contracts from the U.S. Government. In fact,
84 percent of the company s net sales were made through being a prime contractor or subcontractor

Theme Of Trifles And A Doll House
The plot of both Susan Glaspell s Trifles and Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House provides scope for a few
scenes that lack the presence of all or any men. These scenes, consisting of communication between
the female characters, assist in developing the theme of women openly defying the fact that the society
they live in is primarily run by men. All the power and authority in their society, no matter the
situation, belongs to the men while the women are simply excluded. The women in these plays defy
the norms set by society and manage to evade the expectations of their patriarchal societies. In Trifles ,
a division between the two sexes is quickly established as the men enter the house and huddle by the
stove while the women remain still by the door. As the men start their detective work the women
wander around the house to gather some of Mrs. Wright s belongings. While searching for her
belongings, the women discover an empty birdcage and find a dead bird in a pretty box (Glaspell, 956)
inside of Mrs. Wright s sewing basket. Mrs. Hale jumps at the sight of the bird s neck and Mrs. Peters
points out how somebody wrung its neck (Glaspell, 957) similar to the way Mr. Wright was found
earlier. Mrs. Wright s murder of her husband can be seen as an act of feminine revolt against the male
dominated society. Another example of women defying against patriarchy is of Mrs. Hale and Mrs.
Peters hiding the evidence that can prove Mrs. Wright to be guilty of her husband s murder. Before
their departure from the Wright s house, as the men are returning, the sheriff suggests that the county
attorney take a look through the items Mrs. Peters had collected for Mrs. Wright. However, he decides
that anything collected by the women cannot have much significance and overlooks it. His assumption
that the women would have came forward if they saw any possible evidence costs him. The sheriff s
belief is that women derive their identity solely from their relationships with men; the dominant
gender.
The sheriff and the county attorney also joke about how Mrs. Peters is basically married to the law
(Glaspell, 959) suggesting that she would not hide anything because she is a devoted follower of the
law. Ironically, she had concealed

The Effects Of Motor Vehicles On The Environment
Abstract The following report outlines the impacts that motor vehicles have on the environment as
well as detailed strategies aimed at minimizing these impacts. The conducted research found that the
effects of motor vehicles cause significant harm to the environment in various ways. Through the
emission of toxic and greenhouse gases as well as the usage and disposal of non renewable resources,
a number of environmental symptoms were occurring: Increase in the Earth s greenhouse effect, and
therefore contributing to Global Warming Usage and disposal of natural non renewable resources at
unsustainable rates Contamination of wildlife habitats and obstruction of ecological growth Decrease

I will encounter throughout this course. This will begin with week one and ending with week seven,
provided with a business network scenario I will decide based on the assumptions and requirements to

constraints. From the book, at least from chapter 1, that the top down process brings together
information on goals, but also the importance of using systematic methods for network design. Using
these well defined, systematic methods will benefit in understand the changing technologies and
customer requirements. Once again, from Chapter 2, I hope to learn the importance of analyzing the
customer s business needs, his style, his biases, and his technical expertise. Understanding how to

The bottom line for me to succeed, I need to understand my client s corporate organizational structure.

which usually parallels the corporate structure. It will aid in

give a detailed report. She later died in the ambulance while Hartnell became the second victim to

graphic and disturbing. August 1, 1969 was the day the first letters were received at the San Fransisco

Collaborations in research is necessary especially for the researchers to answer questions that they

Sometimes for the advancement of the science these data ownership have the ability to share the data

In order to analyze the data ownership we must be sure about who collects the data and under whose

Tabernacle Exodus Essay
L.6 Exodus: The Tabernacle of God s Presence God s desire of constructing the Tabernacle was not
because He didn t have a place to live. We know that the Lord is the owner of the whole universe. God
wanted to give His people a visible sign of His presence, for those whom he rescued from suffering
and captivity. He wanted that the Israelites would have the eagerness of fellowship with Him. As
mentioned above, God s principal purpose of the tabernacle was to give the Israelites a visible sign of
His presence; in other words, the Lord wanted His people know that He was with them. Second, He
wanted to establish true worship because as Israelites lived in captivity for hundreds of years they
were surrounded by Egyptian idolatry. The tabernacle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Tabernacle was a visual presentation of God s holiness because its structure was so secure and no
one who was not cleansed before could enter. Also, for the offerings God gave the Israelites specific
instructions in cleansing the offerings. God s holiness is beyond perfection. In Exodus 27, 29, God
gave specific instructions to Moses about the preparations, construction and plans for the Tabernacle.
He also gave detailed specifications of how the people could encounter Him. This teaches us that we
have to do thing according to what God wants not by how we want to do it.
The tabernacle had three main parts. First, the courtyard was opened to all the Israelites meaning that
everyone was allowed to be there. Second, the Holy place was only allowed for the priests to enter
because it was approaching to God s holiness. Third, the Holy of Holies in which only the high priest
was permitted to enter but only once a year on the Day of Atonement and by entering the high priest
had the possibility to die by just entering as a result of God s absolute holiness. As we can see the

Compare And Contrast Augustine And Worldview
What a man hopes for is the central tenant to his worldview. That worldview is not only the lens
through which one views the world, but the expression through which the world shapes how one
views the world. In a way, worldview colors what we see in the world, all the while those same things
are shaping that very same worldview into something new and different. Ultimately, where our hope
lies always remains central to worldview. This is especially true in our view of the physical dimension.
How one views the material world and human bodies in relation to human souls and the afterlife is
fundamental to one s worldview. Plato, the Late Classical Greek philosopher, and Saint Augustine, the
Catholic Bishop of the North African city of Hippo, both made their views on the material world and
human bodies clear in their writings and dialogues. While Plato s hope rested in an ethereal bodiless
existence, Augustine hoped in the redemption and reconciliation of the body through Christ. Plato
made the source of his hope abundantly clear in his dialogue, Phaedo, There is good hope that on
arriving where I am going, if anywhere, I shall acquire what has been our chief preoccupation in our
past life (Phaedo, 67b c). Plato s ultimate hope and desire was to attain real wisdom. He had a true
conundrum, however: he believed that the physical world was by very nature evil. Not only that, but
he believed the physical dimension to which our bodies bind us was altogether false. In fact, he

An agreement with Iran over its nuclear program was achieved in late November 2013

November of 1979 declared an emergency and ordered a freeze on all Iranian assets according to PBS.

June 2010, the European Union enacted measures similar to those approved by the U.S. Congress that
banned investment and assistance to Iran s energy sector, and a series of other prohibitions was placed.
It is transparent that this is not a US only action not only has the EU imposed sanctions , the UN has

Definition Of Success
You do not have to be rich in wealth, you can be rich in happiness, and that is what can make you
successful. It is something my mamaw always would tell me so much, that eventually it was carved
into my brain, but it is something I agree with. My definition of success is someone who works hard,
loves his family, and has determination to do whatever he puts his mind to. First, my opinion of
success is someone giving his best to whatever he does, loving his family unconditionally, and having
determination. It is like trying to win a race, someone gives it all they got and if they win they are
successful. If he does all of that and tries his hardest, that is all he will need to succeed in life. Second,

One critical advantage that I can easily associate this position with is the ability to equip officers with
a wide range of skills, all of which are necessary to the success of an officer. Secondly, the position of
a branch officer provides the officers with valuable opportunities to interact with officers with
different specializations, which is critical to the development of essential leadership skills and the
accumulation of vital information or knowledge to facilitate leadership later in one s career. In
addition, this position provides officers with an exceptional opportunity to develop essential skills in
communication and teamwork (U.S. Army War College, 2012). One of the disadvantages associated
with this position is the possibility of stagnation in one s career, especially where such an officer does
not develop a positive attitude toward the position, thus failing to recognize valuable opportunities for
career development. Secondly, officer holding this position are likely to consider it to be a waste of
their time, especially when the officers have careers that involve high level of specialization in
technical fields and the officers are unable to identify key development areas to pursue. Thirdly, such
positions could lead in high levels of inefficiency especially in situations where the officers are not
motivated to work in those positions. Despite these disadvantages, I still look forward to holding the
position of a branch immaterial position because I consider the advantages to be significantly

Foil Characters In Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare is the greatest playwright in the history of the world, and one of his most famous
tragedy plays is Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is about two star crossed
lovers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. Their families are in a feud and brawls have taken place
between these two families. Romeo s personality can be viewed differently from different parts of the
play with the other characters he is around. At one point of the play he can be seen as a positive,
tranquil man and the next moment later he is a vicious, stubborn person. Using foils Romeo s
character is developed by contrasting through Friar Laurence s wise personality, Balthasar s loyal
personality, and Benvolio s peaceful personality. Friar Laurence develops Romeo s character through
his wise personality making Romeo look stubborn. Romeo demonstrates as being stubborn when he
finds out he is banished and is willing to kill himself by saying, Wert thought as young as I, Juliet thy
love, an hour but married, Tybalt murdered, doting like me and like me banished, then mightst thou
speak, then mightst thou tear thy hair, and fall upon the ground, as I do now, taking the measure of an

Comparing the Characters of Faustus and Hamlet
Both Hamlet and Faustus contain a clash of themes and traditions, all catalysed by Religion. This is
used to establish a theme of deception, which greatly impacts the protagonist s procrastination.
Procrastination is considered to be Hamlet s tragic flaw, however Faustus s flaw is considered to be
his hubris.
Hamlet is in fact a play adapted by Shakespeare, not by name. But there are several scriptures that can
be identified to being similar to the plot. One is called Saga of Hrolf Kraki. Believed to be
Scandinavian. The second is the Roman legend of Brutus. In Shakespeare s version Hamlet is the

Therefore we can assume that Faustus is a protestant, but it can be argued that Marlowe could have
possibly made this protestant connection in his defence to cease all accusations about him being a
practicing catholic. Hence, the scene where Faustus appears to be mocking the pope.
The pay is built upon Hamlet s hesitation over fulfilling the task of revenge that is assigned to him: but
its text offers no reason or motives for these hesitations
(Sigmund Freud)
This comment gives us an insight that Hamlet s tragic flaw is in fact his procrastination to killing
Claudius. Although the literal text does not offer a valid reason for his procrastination, the sub text
imposes a compelling argument.
I am thy father s spirit, Doom d for a certain term to walk the night, and for the day confined to fast in
fires, till the foul crimes done in my days of nature are burnt and purged away
(1.5.9)
The ghost appears before Hamlet and claims to be the spirit of his father; he also mentions that he is in
purgatory. While belief in Purgatory remains part of Roman Catholic teaching today, the Protestant
Reformers explicitly rejected it in the sixteenth century1. This suggests that the ghost is a catholic,
which may not have made a difference to Hamlet s character, however although the play s story is set
in the late middle ages (before the Protestant Reformation),

Elements Of Bodily Excess In Films
4. The three Genres that share the elements of bodily excess are Pornography, Melodrama, and Horror.
The use of bodily excess that enhances the emotion, violence, sex, and drama in these films aim to
project these sensations and emotions onto the audience as well. One of the elements of bodily excess
that the three genres of film possess are excessive bodily movements. In Pornography, the bodily
movements are created to appeal sexually to the audience. In Melodrama, the excessive bodily
movements allow a heightened sense of the importance or impact of the drama in the film, adding to
the exaggeration of drama. For example, the more violent or out of control the protagonist is, the
higher the level of drama. Horror films carry the same degree of bodily movements as melodrama
where the characters are usually in constant motion running, fighting, killing, etc. where there are
excessive and exhausting movements that increase as the horror heightens.
Sound is also a crucial aspect for these three genres of film when discussing bodily excess. In these
three genres. The sensation of the body is portrayed by Horror s shouts of terror and fear, Pornography

Segregation Depicted In The Film Red Tails
Red Tails describes the tremendous amount of plights that many African American pilots had to go
through during World War II. It demonstrates the extreme amounts of segregation between those
involved in the American Airforce and those involved in the Tuskegee Airmen. Red Tails demonstrates
how only the African Americans were segregated, they were forced to train differently, learn
differently, and be on separate bases. As the movie clearly showed the Tuskegee Airmen were given
many hand me downs and very little respect for protecting their country. One example of this behavior

The Social Aspect Of A Self Image

phenomenon as a photograph that has taken of oneself, typically with a smartphone or web cam and

a self image is not a new idea as the involvement of self portraits pre dates the Internet and evolving

figures that represent the economic strength of the individual economies. Referring to the absolute
GDP (ppp) values, Switzerland has got the largest economic output of US$ 252.9bln in 2006. Portugal
and Denmark generated US$ 203.1bln and US$ 198.5 respectively. However, if the GDP is evaluated
on a per capita bases, Denmark has got the strongest economy (US$ 35660) followed by Switzerland
(US$ 33600) and Portugal (US$ 22100). The same order holds for the GDP growth rates in 2006 (see

The social circumstances in the countries are mainly impacted by unemployment rates and general
standards of living. Unemployment rates in 2006 (see fig. 4) are well below EU average in

Research traces the increase in damage done to the marine ecosystem back from 150 to 300 years ago
and it has only increased since then. The growth in population can also cause effects in the loss or
harm of wild species. In the early 1900 s most mammals, birds, salmon, tuna, sharks and reptiles were
depleted, and continued to decline by 1950 as the demand grew for different resources. The
International Union for Conservation has a record of ocean animals that are on the Red List . This list
has 620 species of marine animals listed on it and these animals are in danger of becoming extinct.
This should show the human population that we need to work harder to put in a greater effort in
protecting our oceans against pollution and overfishing. Strategies and techniques for marine
ecosystem conservation would be setting up protected areas, as with marine protected areas (MPAs) or
Voluntary Marine Conservation Areas. Other techniques include developing sustainable fisheries and
restoring the populations of endangered species through artificial means. Another focus of
conservationists is on curtailing human activities that are detrimental to either marine ecosystems or
species through policy, techniques such as fishing quotas, like those set up by the Northwest Atlantic

The Importance Of Vaccination
Vaccination is necessary to prevent human health from viruses and bacterias around us. There was
some disease that once killed or injured thousand of people, but had been eliminated because of the
existing of vaccines. Polio is a great example of that. This disease had been a most feared disease, was
the cause of deaths of many people. But thanks to vaccines, right now there isn t any report about
Polio in United States. Vaccination is a must for all of people in order to prevent yourself stay away
from disease, illness, and death.
Flu shot is an example of how vaccination could help the body, especially the immune systems. This
system is a network of cells, organs, and tissues that work together to defends the body from
infectious, and the attacks of outside invaders. Also it helps the healing process in case harm occurs.
All of these are to maintain the homeostasis. When the body is infected by a virus, the body need to
have a lot of energy than usual to fight off the invaders. This can lead to fever, which slow down
bacteria and viruses, make it longer for the immune cells B and T lymphocytes to find and get rid of
the invaders. B cells are not directly kills the cell, instead they are producing antibodies that can hijack
invaders as they travel in the blood. Antibodies then act as the flag whenever there is an infected cell
so T cells can recognize and attack it. T cells on the other hand, may kill the targeted cell that might
become infected by the invader or cancerous

What Is The Difference Between The Wizard Of Oz Book And Book
The adaptation of the text, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum that I watched was the
movie The Wizard of Oz filmed in 1939. The three components that were different were the way it
ended, the violence included, and why the characters were lacking. In the book the way it ends makes
the audience think that OZ is a real place that does exist. There were books that came after this book
which involved Dorothy living in the land of Oz. However, in the movie Dorothy wakes up from a nap
at the end; indicating the whole experience was a dream. Another difference was that the movie didn t
describe how each character became how they were. The book describes how the Scarecrow was made
because the munchkin forgot to give him a brain. The Tinman doesn t have a heart because he was
made up by a tinsmith after getting cut up, but forgot to be made with a heart. The lion was just born
to be cowardly. The last difference is there was much more violence described in the book than in the
movie. In the book it was explained that the tinman was cut to pieces by an axe and that is why he is
now made out of tin. The violence contributes to the story being interpreted in a different way because
if someone were to watch the movie they would think it is a light hearted story meant for fun.
However, I think it is apparent that the book was darker and included more intense topics, including
topics of love and being cut up which is why the characters need to see OZ. Also, reading the

Sports Drinks Research Paper
Should sports drinks be a part of your everyday diet? Sports drinks have their pros and cons depending
on what you are doing. When exercising for long periods of time a person should drink sports drinks
but, not just sports drinks, they should also drink water. Sports drinks can have high levels of salt,
sugar and calories which can be good and bad. They also contain electrolytes which are good to
regulate the nervous system and muscles. Sports drinks have a better taste than water so most people
will drink more of them, even though water replenishes fluids better and is sugar and calorie free.
Sports drinks should not be a regular part of a diet. They should only be used for when doing long
periods of exercise, for salty sweaters on hot

The Monument Of The Statue Of Liberty
Entry 1. The Statue of Liberty
In 1865 when the American Civil War was close to the end, a French historian Edouard de Laboulaye
suggested that France should create and give to the United States a statue that would symbolize the
nation s success in building a viable democracy. However, because of the lock of money, the work on
the statue didn t start until the end of 1875. The creator of the statue is the French sculptor Frederic
Auguste Bartholdi who created the statue out of sheets of hammered copper and Alexandre Gustave
Eiffel, the creator of Eiffel Tower created the statue s steel frame. The female form represented by the
sculpture is based on Libertas, the Roman goddess of liberty. The statue was given to the United States

Entry 3. Andrew Carnegie
Born on November 25, 1835, in Dunfermline, Scotland, Andrew Carnegie was the second son of Will
and Margaret Carnegie. His father was handloom weavers while his mother worked for a local
shoemaker. In 1848, the Carnegie family came to America hoping for better economic opportunities
and established in Pennsylvania and this is when Andrew Carnegie formal education ended because
his family had no money for education. He then got his first job as a bobbin boy at a cotton factory,
earning $1.20 a week. After this he had quite a few different job one of which was at the railroad
where he made got money and that s when he was able to make some investments in coal, iron and oil
companies and a manufacturer of railroad sleeping cars. In 1865, Carnegie left the railroad job and he
continued his ascent in the business world. But because the railroad industry experienced a rapid
growth during that time in the United Stated, Carnegie made an investment in the railroad business
and by the age of 30th he was the richest person. In the early 1870s, he started working in the steel
business, and very soon he became one of the most important people in the field. Despite of his
success in 1901, he sold his steel company to banker John Pierpont Morgan for $480 million.
Carnegie then dedicated

  • 3. Case Study on Sears Essay SEARS CASE STUDY by Robert A.G. Monks and Nell Minow Introduction The great advantage of publicly held companies is that they bring together capital and managerial expertise, to the benefit of both groups. An investor need not know anything about making or marketing chairs in order to invest in a chair factory. A gifted producer or seller of chairs need not have capital in order to start a business. When it runs well, both profit, and the capitalist system achieves its goals. Our system of capitalism has been less successful when the company does not run well. As some of America s most visible, powerful, and successful companies began to slide, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a survey of business leaders, Sears management was ranked 487 out of 500.3 It was no secret that the company s performance was poor, both in comparison to the market as a whole and in comparison to its peers. But all of that was not enough to get management to change direction. What could the shareholders do? They could sell out, as many of them did, even at a loss, but as noted above that does not force the company to improve. Those whose stake was big enough to merit some attempt at communicating with management tried that, too, but with little success. Sears s twelve largest investors met with CEO Ed Brennan and retail chief Michael Bozic in August of 1990. Brennen and Bozic gave an upbeat assessment of the corporation s plans. But the investors wanted more than rosey projections. They cited a grim share performance value had dropped 15 points since 1989 and gave Brennan one year to achieve marked improvement in retail, or to look for another job. Brennan fired Bozic, and promised to make cuts. But it was too little, too late, and the shareholders were not satisfied. In early December, the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), holder of 2.2 million shares, voiced its concern about Sears s performance, citing depressed stock and the failure of retailing strategies. CalPERS message, says CEO Dale Hanson, was simple: From 1984 on, Sears went to hell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Red Planet And Space Travel Essay Humans have been studying space for over two thousand years; whether it be for naming stars, looking for and creating constellations, studying the moon and its phases, studying other planets in our solar system; the list goes on. Humans are always interested in space and the many mysteries with it. Humans love learning more about space so we sent humans to our own moon to help understand more about space. Yet we had plans to get to Mars four years before we even landed on the moon. How did we have plans to get to Mars before we even landed on the moon? Wernher von Braun has been interested in the red planet and space travel since he was in college. Many years after college, Braun still had his dream of making it to Mars. Braun then wrote a novel in 1949 with plans of traveling to Mars in 1965. This plan obviously has not happened yet, but humans then gained more interest in the red planet. Plans of traveling to Mars has been steadily increasing and changing over time; from Braun s first plans to NASA new plans and the change of technology that has helped us humans get closer to the dream of stepping foot on the red planet. We do not know where this journey will end, yet we know this human beings are headed into the cosmos[space]. Mankind is drawn to the heavens for the same reason we were once drawn into unknown lands and across the open sea. • 9. The Importance of Voting Importance of Voting Introduction The importance of voting is a fundamental aspect of a democracy. The United States is a constitutional republic in which the population votes on who represents them as their leaders. The populace votes on leaders in the legislative, judicial and executive branches that serve in a plethora of different positions in the government. The people in these positions will determine things like laws that are drafted that will help to shape the nation. Some of the current issues that politicians may be deciding upon might be abortion, capital punishment, gay rights, civil rights, among others. Furthermore, many of the higher offices actually have the right to appoint various other representatives such as judges and justices. Since the representatives will make decisions that will affect nearly everyone in the country, the importance of voting on the representatives cannot be understated. Importance of Voting It can be argued that voting for a candidate hardly ever makes a difference. For example, it is rare that anyone of the elections is decided by one or two votes. Therefore, when someone votes for a candidate and that individual wins or loses by a significant margin, something in the tens of thousands or even in the millions, then voting for the candidate did not make a difference in the election. This perspective is actually likely true in most situations. It is incredibly rare that an election is ever decided by slim margin. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Drilling Of Fshore Drilling Industry The offshore drilling industry can be split into 5 key markets: upgrade market, contract drilling market, second hand market, scrap market and contract drilling market. Among them contract drilling market is most important, because it ensures smooth cash flow between markets. drilling units is summarised in the table below. The table above describes cash flow within offshore drilling markets. Contract drilling market leases drilling units to O G companies to drill or service wells, in turn they receive day rates. The day rate is the daily price to lease a rig and includes the use of the rig and its crew but does not include most of the other costs associated with drilling and completing a well (e.g., casing, drilling fluids, logistics, well evaluation, etc.). The drilling service industry is the largest and most closely followed of the five markets and drives the activities of investors in the other markets. The new build market uses shipyard labour and capital to convert steel and third party equipment into rigs. Drilling contractors enter into turnkey contracts with shipyards for the construction and delivery of one or more rigs, or yards may build on speculation. The new build market is primarily Asian with major shipyards in Singapore, South Korea, and China. The upgrade market is a ship repair market which both upgrades and maintains rigs. • 18. Theme Of Trifles And A Doll House The plot of both Susan Glaspell s Trifles and Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House provides scope for a few scenes that lack the presence of all or any men. These scenes, consisting of communication between the female characters, assist in developing the theme of women openly defying the fact that the society they live in is primarily run by men. All the power and authority in their society, no matter the situation, belongs to the men while the women are simply excluded. The women in these plays defy the norms set by society and manage to evade the expectations of their patriarchal societies. In Trifles , a division between the two sexes is quickly established as the men enter the house and huddle by the stove while the women remain still by the door. As the men start their detective work the women wander around the house to gather some of Mrs. Wright s belongings. While searching for her belongings, the women discover an empty birdcage and find a dead bird in a pretty box (Glaspell, 956) inside of Mrs. Wright s sewing basket. Mrs. Hale jumps at the sight of the bird s neck and Mrs. Peters points out how somebody wrung its neck (Glaspell, 957) similar to the way Mr. Wright was found earlier. Mrs. Wright s murder of her husband can be seen as an act of feminine revolt against the male dominated society. Another example of women defying against patriarchy is of Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters hiding the evidence that can prove Mrs. Wright to be guilty of her husband s murder. Before their departure from the Wright s house, as the men are returning, the sheriff suggests that the county attorney take a look through the items Mrs. Peters had collected for Mrs. Wright. However, he decides that anything collected by the women cannot have much significance and overlooks it. His assumption that the women would have came forward if they saw any possible evidence costs him. The sheriff s belief is that women derive their identity solely from their relationships with men; the dominant gender. The sheriff and the county attorney also joke about how Mrs. Peters is basically married to the law (Glaspell, 959) suggesting that she would not hide anything because she is a devoted follower of the law. • 24. Compare And Contrast Augustine And Worldview What a man hopes for is the central tenant to his worldview. That worldview is not only the lens through which one views the world, but the expression through which the world shapes how one views the world. In a way, worldview colors what we see in the world, all the while those same things are shaping that very same worldview into something new and different. Ultimately, where our hope lies always remains central to worldview. This is especially true in our view of the physical dimension. How one views the material world and human bodies in relation to human souls and the afterlife is fundamental to one s worldview. Plato, the Late Classical Greek philosopher, and Saint Augustine, the Catholic Bishop of the North African city of Hippo, both made their views on the material world and human bodies clear in their writings and dialogues. While Plato s hope rested in an ethereal bodiless existence, Augustine hoped in the redemption and reconciliation of the body through Christ. Plato made the source of his hope abundantly clear in his dialogue, Phaedo, There is good hope that on arriving where I am going, if anywhere, I shall acquire what has been our chief preoccupation in our past life (Phaedo, 67b c). Frank Baum that I watched was the movie The Wizard of Oz filmed in 1939. The three components that were different were the way it ended, the violence included, and why the characters were lacking. In the book the way it ends makes the audience think that OZ is a real place that does exist. There were books that came after this book which involved Dorothy living in the land of Oz. However, in the movie Dorothy wakes up from a nap at the end; indicating the whole experience was a dream. The Tinman doesn t have a heart because he was made up by a tinsmith after getting cut up, but forgot to be made with a heart. The lion was just born to be cowardly. The last difference is there was much more violence described in the book than in the movie. In the book it was explained that the tinman was cut to pieces by an axe and that is why he is now made out of tin. The violence contributes to the story being interpreted in a different way because if someone were to watch the movie they would think it is a light hearted story meant for fun. However, I think it is apparent that the book was darker and included more intense topics, including topics of love and being cut up which is why the characters need to see OZ. Also, reading the ...
