Juan de Villanueva was a famous Spanish architect born in 1739 in Madrid. He was accepted into the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando at age 11. Throughout his career he worked exclusively on royal residences and buildings for the Spanish royal family, including the House of the Children in Aranjuez and San Lorenzo de El Escorial. His most notable work was the Prado Museum in Madrid, completed in 1785. Juan de Villanueva died in Madrid in 1811.
