Seville was founded by Julius Caesar in 206 BC. It has over 700,000 residents and is the capital of the region of Andalusia. Some of Seville's most prominent landmarks include the Cathedral and Giralda Tower, the Royal Castle, and the historic center which has the largest protected area of any European city. Seville hosted the Universal Exposition in 1992 and was an important trade center with the Americas due to its location on the Guadalquivir River.
