This document discusses the role of computers in education. It states that the computer is recognized as the third revolution in education, after the printing press and libraries. The document defines what a computer is and discusses how computer technology has transformed education through computer-assisted instruction, amplifying learning in areas like reading and writing. It describes how computers became integrated instructional and educational communication media through capabilities like the Internet, email, and educational software. The document also provides examples of common computer applications and operating systems that are used in education.

Information and communication technologies (ICT) are simply technologies arising fromscientific and technological progress in computer sciences, electronics andtelecommunications. They enable us to process, store, retrieve and disseminate valuableinformation in text, sound and video form. In an increasing interconnected world, brought about by the application of technological advances to all sectors of society, quality education necessitates active and innovative exploration to maximize the benefits of ICT and developand maintain the partnerships that use of ICT in education requires. This calls for re-conceptualising and restructuring the educational enterprise, so as to confront thetechnological challenges of this millennium. With rapid changes within society and radical transformations in the way people acquire knowledge, new teaching paradigms arerequired, ones that tune educational systems to modern times and ensure quality trainingfor large numbers of persons.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

6. computer-assisted

of individualized learning

color, music and animation.
7. But the evolving pace of
innovation in today’s Information
Age is so dynamic that within the
first decade of the 21st century,
computer technology in
education has matured to
transform into an educative
information and communication
technology (ICT) in education.
8. Through computer
technology, educators saw the amplification
of learning among computer
literacy.

now interact with computer message,
even respond to question or to computer

writing, the learner can form messages

10. What is ICT?
Means Information
Communications Technology
Covers any product that will store,
retrieve, manipulate, transmits or
receives information electronically
in a digital form.
Ex. personal computers, digital
television, email, robots.
11. Is concerned with the storage,
retrieval, manipulation,
transmission or receipt of digital
data. Importantly, it is also
concerned with the way these
different uses can work with each
other .
12. Consider the following important
topics that deal with the way ICT
is used and managed in an
organization
- The nature of information (the "I"
in ICT)
this covers topics such as the
meaning and value of
information; how information is
controlled; the limitations of
ICT; legal considerations.
13. - Management of information
this covers how data is captured,
verified and stored for
effective use; the manipulation,
processing and distribution of
information; keeping information
secure; designing networks to share
information
- Information systems strategy
this considers how ICT can be used
within a business or
organization as part of achieving
goals and objectives
14. Instructional media consist of audio-
visual aids that served to enhance
and enrich the teaching-learning
process.
Examples are the blackboard, photo,
film and video.
educational communication media
comprise the media of
communication to audiences
including learners using the print,
film, radio, television or satellite
means of communication.
15. Example:
. distance learning was
implemented using
correspondence, radio,
television, or the computer
satellite system.
16. Close to the turn of the 21st century,
however, such a distinction merged
owing to the advent of the
microprocessor, also known as the
personal computer (PC). This is due to
the fact that the PC user at home,
office and school has before him a
tool for both audio-visual creations
and media communication.
