The brief to the architects, Percy Thomas;
“Unmistakably Welsh and internationally outstanding”.
This led to the use of Welsh Materials, Welsh Artists,
Welsh designers and many Welsh procedures
The Welsh materials included;
• ‘Re-used’ slate from North Wales Quarries
• Steel from Pontypool
• Architectural Glass, designed by Swansea Institute
• Wood from re-newable sources provided by Coed
Cymru, including ash, beech, cherry, chestnut & oak
