A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
2. LIST OF JOBS
Make up/hair
Photographer
Filming
Editing/editing assistant/music and sound
editor
Actor
These jobs are vital for the
production our music video in order
to be successful. Different people
within our group will fulfil these
roles to ensure that we all have an
equal amount of involvement within
the production of our three to four
minute music video. These jobs may
require more than one person to
do/ group involvement and
someone to take on more than one
of these roles. This will ensure that
we are all happy with the end result.
We found that last year giving out
jobs made us more organised.
3. PHOTOGRAPHER/ VIDEOGRAPHER
Throughout our journey of production making our music
video we want to create a ‘buzz’ for our audience building
up to the release our final product. We have decided that a
photographer is a really important role in order to
successfully create the ‘buzz’ which we want. We will upload
photos from behind the scenes of filming onto our social
media accounts to update and stay in contact with our
followers/fan base. This will be done by the person filming
the vlog diary on the day, this will allow us to not only take
photos behind the scenes but allow our audience to see
how we made our music videos including sneak peaks to
make them excited to watch our music video.
4. MAKE UP
We are wanting to do our make up subtle on our actress to
make her appear ordinary and relatable. However, we plan
we have her wear more make when we are filming the flash
backs of when the protagonist was happy showing a contrast
between present day. We also plan to use a another actress
in our video which will have dramatic make up and will take
further practice. We will practice our make up ideas before
the actual filming takes place in order to manipulate it to
look how we want it to and come across to our audience.
This will also prevent any reactions to make up that we may
us and make the filming day run more smoothly. We will
make a makeup tutorial to show our audience how we
created the look and show them how they can also achieve
this look, adding to how relatable we want our video to be.
5. EDITING/SOUND EDITOR
Using the editing techniques that we have been taught in class
we will edit our music video so that it is synchronous lip syncing
and looks realistic to our audience. However, our whole post
wont only contain lip syncing so we will need to ensure that
when we include shots of objects which reinforce the lyrics
being sung we need to ensure this matches up and is played
over the clip at the right time. Two people or more people will
decide on this together in order to gather more than one
opinion within our group then we will check with everyone in
the group and let them give any feedback before distributing,
so we are all happy with the final product.
6. ACTRESS/LIP SYNCING – DIRECTOR
An actress/actor is someone who conveys a character in a
performance which in our music video is also shown to be
our ‘star’. Though this person isn't in our group it will be
someone within our groups job to ensure that our
performers know exactly what they are doing, this will
include a rehearsal so that we can make our music video the
best and that we reduce the mistakes made which may occur
over all reducing time and making us able to get our music
video exactly how we want it. However, Laura one of our
team members will feature in our music video shown
dancing, it is important that this is performance is story
boarded and practiced so that she knows exactly what to do
on the day. A group discussion before filming will be
important to ensure everyone knows what they are doing.
