Job Description: Agriculture Engineer - Horticulturist
Reports to: Direct report to COO and parallel reporting to Landscape Maintenance Manager, Italian
Planters, Dubai, UAE.
Function: Performs a variety of moderately technical and administrative tasks related to Projects and
Maintenance of Landscaping services and coordinating them into attractive designs. Leads the horticultural
team in creating and maintaining horticultural displays to drive year round attendance and further Italian
Planters mission of serving Premier Customers. Develops and monitors departmental structure, responsible
to accomplish short-term and long-term goals.
Schedule: Full-time, with mandatory weekend and holiday rotation and occasional evening hours

Primary Responsibilities
To perform the role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and
perform other duties as assigned.
The Horticulturist’s primary functions include:
Establishes and maintains high horticultural standards and practices; providing direction, training and
motivation for the horticultural staffs, interns and volunteers
Should be a hands-on leader, actively working in the daily horticultural tasks in the exterior & interior
gardens and greenhouses
Manages and supports overall plant health and soil nutrition strategies for all gardens that includes
sustainable gardening practices and integrated pest management in the outdoor and indoor gardens
Establishes and oversees a systematic plant records policy which includes direction of the plant
collection policy and design aesthetic in coordination with Italian Planters master plan, mission, and
strategies
Coordinates in heating and cooling of greenhouses, irrigation systems and maintenance of horticultural
equipment’s collaboratively with Site Staff.
To Site Survey on new inquiries for both Maintenance / Projects and prepare the BOQ for estimation.
Responsible for the operational department budgets, budget monitoring, strategic planning, and any
other horticultural capital projects as needed (i.e, installation of new gardens)
Maintains inventory of propagation and growing equipment and supplies, and orders additional materials
as needed
Arranges purchase, sale, or exchange of plants with representatives of similar institutions, promoting
collaborative relationships with like institutions
Develops, maintains, and promotes positive and professional relationships with customer staff, FM
Staff, internal staff, volunteers, members, vendors, contractors, media, and the general public
Coaches/leads, motivates, develops, and evaluate the assigned personnel - Teach topical classes as
needed – Tool Box talks on various subjects like HSE, Technical & Equipment / Tools Handling.
Internal Audit on Quality Assurance& Quality Control (QA/QC) of Sites and reporting to Management
with recommendations for improvement.
Supervisory Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Designs, installs, and maintains annual and perennial beds, grass, shrubbery and trees.
2. Supervises and directs grounds personnel by establishing schedules, assigning tasks, monitoring and
reviewing projects to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.
3. Applies pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers complying with state and federal guidelines.
4. Records the application of pesticides and maintains a MSDS record of the chemicals store in the
facility.
5. Plans unit activities and decides priorities; assists in implementing policies and procedures and
enforcing rules and regulations.
6. Coordinates the activities between the maintenance and grounds departments.
7. Ensures that the department is in compliance with Authority regulations concerning chemicals stored
at the facility.
8. Confers with others in the industry about new plants and ideas.
9. Maintains the cleanliness of assigned areas by mechanical or hand methods.

10. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable
laws.
11. Responsibilities include assisting interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and

Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this

Education, Experience and Knowledge
• Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, botany, natural sciences or a related field
• Minimum of Two to four years’ experience as a professional horticulturist
• Minimum of one to two years’ experience in management position
• Demonstrated knowledge of plants native to Middle East
• Knowledge of gardening techniques.
• Knowledge of pesticide use and safety techniques.
• Knowledge of related state and federal guidelines.
• Supervisory skills.
Licenses and Certifications
• Must have a State of Dubai Pesticide Applicators License for turf, ornamentals, greenhouse and aquatic
pest management (or obtain within 3 months)
• Must possess a valid State of UAE Driver’s License

• Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical
procedures, or governmental regulations written in the English language
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

Mathematical Skills
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions,

• Ability to perform these operations using units of IS money and weight Measurement, volume, and
distance.
Cognitive and Reasoning Ability
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only

• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
• Knowledge of Auto-cad, Photoshop, Any other landscape design software
• Ability to use Microsoft office suite efficiently – Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook etc…
