Modernizing Development - The Road to Agility and DevOps at CompuwareAtlassian
Transforming a development organization from waterfall to agile is a big undertaking. Even larger when it’s a 40-year-old mainframe development organization. Having the vision for the future and the proper tools to enable that vision is essential. Join David Rizzo, an IT veteran, who led the transformation of Compuware from waterfall to agile and implementation of DevOps. You’ll see how Confluence was used to promote collaboration, in the office and in the field. How JIRA Software was used to track agile tasks and projects and how Bitbucket was utilized for handling source code. A modern DevOps toolchain is key to successful implementation. Using the Atlassian tools, Agile and DevOps were fully implemented across the entire organization.
A lot has changed in the ways teams work since Portfolio for Jira joined the Atlassian family. Team structures have shifted, and more and more teams are doing their work in Jira with greater agility. They have more autonomy but must stay connected to their adjacent teams and communicate their plans effectively with stakeholders. Portfolio for Jira can help you on this journey.
If you’ve ever used Portfolio in the past, and are curious about how we’ve reinvented the product, or are looking for an agile tool to help you plan, collaborate, and get visibility across teams in Jira, then this session is for you! In it, we’ll share how we used Portfolio ourselves, setting product direction, identifying the right solution scope, winning internal adoption, and taking your feedback when it came to planning our roadmap.
A Brave Journey in Merge Waters: How Paysafe Consolidated Their Atlassian ToolsAtlassian
After a large merger in mid-2015, Paysafe, a fintech company providing payment solutions worldwide, had several instances of Atlassian products spread across the globe. With 4 JIRA Software, 3 Confluence, 2 Bitbucket, 2 Bamboo and 2 HipChat server instances, our team made the bold decision to unify them into a single instance for each product. Further complicating the already daunting task were 6 active directories of users, a diverse set of admins, and different levels of organizational maturity across our development, product, and business teams. A year after we set sail, Paysafe now has a single production instance of the majority of these products, with little impact to users, no data loss, and improved performance. In this session, we will outline our journey into the uncharted waters of consolidation focusing on our 4 JIRA instances, as this was the most critical and challenging mission in our quest. Together with our Atlassian Solution Partner, Nemetschek Bulgaria, we will share tips and best practices on limiting downtime, eliminating the risk for loss of vital data, and the unification of user management.

This presentation will give you a great overview of how you can execute agile program planning, namely using the scaled agile framework in JIRA. We will describe the journey from an early stage of Agile adoption and show a typical path to adopt the Scaled Agile Framework. In order to support the effort, scaling tools are important. We will show you how JIRA, a very popular Agile tool, can be used to manage the process.
The Way Forward: A Scaled Agile ExperienceDavid Hanson
This presentation outlines how our organization scaled Agile to meet the needs of a multi-million dollar multi-year program to create a common platform for portfolio management. Our “small-scale” scaled Agile implementation most closely resembles a blend of LeSS (small in scope) and Scrum@Scale (scaled roles, events, artifacts). The scaled implementation, initiated in 2014, has been largely successful, but not without some compromise, and continues today with remaining opportunities for improvement. Presented at Agile Boston on 13 May 2020.

Storytelling at the Agile 2007 Conference by Steve Greene and Chris Fry. Exposes the dramatic success at Salesforce.com in transforming R&D into an Agile development organization in a "Big Bang" way.
Presented at Agile New England as an Agile 101 session in July 2020. Surveys six of the most common approaches for scaling Agile: SAFe, S@S, LeSS, Nexus, DAD, and Spotify. Some models are intended to scale Agile to the entire organization, while others are intended to scale only as required for larger programs. An introduction to options beyond Scrum of Scrums or SAFe.
How Atlassian Manages Risk and Compliance with Jira Software and ConfluenceAtlassian
Traditional Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) tools are big, expensive, and challenging to manage and integrate. They typically require an army of people to implement and maintain. At Atlassian, we use the power and flexibility of JIRA Software and Confluence to manage our GRC for a low cost, while seamlessly integrating with our existing processes and teams. Join us if you manage risk and compliance, work in information security, conduct audits, or if you are just tired of chasing audit remediations. We will share best practices that organizations in all industries or geographic locations can leverage to manage their governance, risk & compliance needs.
Working in a mature, established organization can present challenges in adapting Agile practices at the team level, while also collecting and providing information about various projects and initiatives that senior management requires to manage the overall business. Agile frameworks, such as SAFe, may offer a useful way forward, but it may not align directly to existing business planning and management practices. New concepts, such as value streams, are introduced, while traditional concepts such as projects and programs disappear. Learn how we created our own Scaled Agile Framework - managed using Jira - that leverages the best of both worlds — supporting traditional business management practices without hindering the agility of our software development teams!
This presentation highlights the benefits of using agile methodologies.
It also describe what is agility and how different it is from waterfall approach. What are the different agile methodologies and what is Scrum the most used agile methodology world wide.
The Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) has a special event that is held for every Program Increment (5 sprints-ish). This is a large scale, collaborative event including everyone from the Agile Release Train (50 people plus). This workshop will be a highly interactive event where all participants will be involved in one of many teams collaborating together to plan a single Program Increment for a single product.
The schedule will roughly contain:
Overview of SAFe Program Increment Planning
(Fictional) Business Context
Product / Solution Vision
Architecture Vision And Development Practices
Planning Session 1
Draft Plan Review
Planning Session 2
Final Plan Review
Risk ROAMing

Portfolio Management in JIRA - Karen Branham and Scottie BrimmerAtlassian
As our company's use of JIRA increased, we sensed a need to track portfolio projects within JIRA. But we didn’t find any plugins that met our need, so we built our own process. Through a combination of custom issue types, fields, and workflows, our leaders and PMO can now see the entire portfolio of 60 projects.
In Agile Development, Testing is meant to be a part of the development process, right along with coding, but many “Agile Teams” are missing this vital component and experiencing degregated quality. In this presentation, we will discuss how to integrate Agile Testing in Kanban processes by discussing the following:
• Introduction to Agile and Lean
• How testers add value to cross-functional Agile Development Teams
• How testers participate in Agile ceremonies
• How to test in an Agile Environment
• The Four Environments (Dev, Test, Stage, Production)
• The types of testing that occurs in each environmen
Kanban is the simplest approach which is currently used in software development. Since Kanban prescribes close to nothing there are often a lot of basic questions about the method.
The presentation depicts what Kanban is generally using Scrum as a reference point. Then it presents a series of situations to answer basic questions about working with Kanban

Introduction to JIRA & Agile Project ManagementDan Chuparkoff
Join me for a brief introduction to JIRA & Agile Project Management. I'll talk about basic Agile concepts. I'll show you basic JIRA planning and working with Scrum and Kanban. And I'll show you the most important reports to master so you can build great software just like Atlassian.
This presentation includes an overview of the various estimation techniques used in Agile projects. I've also put in a slide for explaining the importance of business value for Agile requirements. A simple mechanism on capacity planning before weaving it all together to come up with a reasonably foolproof plan.
This pack goes through a quick refresher of the key values that makes great agile teams. It also goes through some key roles within the team, what x-functional teams are all about and about importance of the overall agile mindset.
ome teams find it difficult to measure the success (or failure) of Agile projects. In many cases this is because the link between process and technology is absent and the right tools are not being used - or are not being used in the right way. In this presentation we will introduce Atlasssian products that bring agile reporting to life.
Antipatterns when estimating with story points.
When story points are just another way of micromanagement and classical planning with Agile flavor.

Organizations large and small use application lifecycle management tools like Jira, Azure DevOps, VersionOne, Rational Team Concert, and others to manage their Agile products and programs
Every day in large organizations, ALM data is used to make forecasts and key decisions about budgeting, staffing, and risk management. Organizations increasingly rely on ALM tools to generate alerts to proactively warn about variances, risks, and shortfalls. Unfortunately, due to late, inaccurate, and incomplete data entry, ALM tools often end up emitting a large volume of false positives, while the real risks remain hidden.
We would like to propose a new approach that automates governance for ALM tools, leveraging the same proven approach used by linting tools like FxCop, stylecop, eslint, pylint and pmd. Rather than expecting perfection, let's provide some guides and seatbelts to enable mere mortals to use alm tools successfully!
Whether your business is a small, fast-growing agile shop, or a larger company that is trying to adopt agile methodologies, success hinges on a proper foundation of roles, responsibilities, and processes. In this talk, we’ll cover how Trulia tackles these areas, and discuss how JIRA Agile helped us expand our agile cycles.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.
