Kanban teams improve when they have a disciplined cadence, and effective Product Ownership and Scrum Mastership. DevOps really is mainly about doing Agile the right way. In this session, we will look at a core definition of Scrum, Kanban & DevOps, do some myth-busting as well as identify the quite significant common ground between Scrum, Kanban and DevOps. We will then look at practical ways like the Kanban-based Sprint Backlog, Flow-based Daily Scrum, Visualizing aging work, Flow-based Sprint Planning - which bring some Kanban flow into your Scrum. We will look at how to bring Scrum roles/events/artifacts into your Kanban. We will look at ways to wrap Scrum with a Kanban Flow system that looks upstream/downstream and at the higher level picture of a DevOps Culture/Process. You’ll leave with a better understanding of how Scrum, Kanban, and DevOps relate to each other and with some ideas for experiments to try when back at work.

Scaling & Aligning Mobile Product Management / ProductTank Lisbon February 2016Arne Kittler
"In my presentation I will share my personal learnings with two aspects of Product Management at XING:
Mainly I will talk about our approach to scaling mobile product management. Like many other digital companies started before 2010, XING’s approach to product management was strongly web-oriented and mobile had been treated as a by-product handled by a small silo of specialists. What we aim for today is a full-stack product thinking in which a product team not just owns the domain specific business logic and the web representation of their product, but also all other touchpoints and in particular mobile.
As a result we now build our native core apps as a distributed and collaborative effort of several teams. I will share my learnings from managing the change process of „unleashing mobile“ across XING and what it means for the product managers involved.
As a second topic I will dive deeper into one question which is closely connected to this distributed, collaborative approach: How to create the necessary alignment between autonomous teams?
I will present a framework for alignment which we call „Auftragsklärung“ (rough translation: „assignment clarification“ – I will explain why I prefer the German terminology). Auftragsklärung has helped to add a lot of clarity to the way we manage products and also be applied in other contexts such as start-ups or agency work."

Foundations of the Scaled Agile Framework® (SAFe® ) 4.5netmind

A Brave Journey in Merge Waters: How Paysafe Consolidated Their Atlassian ToolsAtlassian
After a large merger in mid-2015, Paysafe, a fintech company providing payment solutions worldwide, had several instances of Atlassian products spread across the globe. With 4 JIRA Software, 3 Confluence, 2 Bitbucket, 2 Bamboo and 2 HipChat server instances, our team made the bold decision to unify them into a single instance for each product. Further complicating the already daunting task were 6 active directories of users, a diverse set of admins, and different levels of organizational maturity across our development, product, and business teams. A year after we set sail, Paysafe now has a single production instance of the majority of these products, with little impact to users, no data loss, and improved performance. In this session, we will outline our journey into the uncharted waters of consolidation focusing on our 4 JIRA instances, as this was the most critical and challenging mission in our quest. Together with our Atlassian Solution Partner, Nemetschek Bulgaria, we will share tips and best practices on limiting downtime, eliminating the risk for loss of vital data, and the unification of user management.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
