Kokoro is a unique global digital platform that connects children and youth around the world.
Kokoro aims to fill a gap of available digital games used to develop global citizenship, particularly to learn about other cultures, beliefs and take collaborative and global action to support or initiate projects that promote peace, mutual understanding and respect. The increasing level of religious intolerance, racial discrimination, prejudices, stereotypes that lead to violent conflicts require that children learn about other cultures and beliefs and are encouraged and facilitated the space, physically and virtually, to meet and work with others.
Goals:
• To provide opportunities for children and youth to develop as global citizens and take collective action on topics that affect them;
• To promote collaborative learning and problem solving among children and youth across countries and cultures; and to promote respect, responsibility, empathy and reconciliation.
• To nurture children’s and youth’s capacity to contribute to a culture of peace;

Benefits of a Globalised World for ChildrenYCIS Beijing
In the modern world of today, it is evident to see how globalisation has "made the world smaller" and the different benefits that have come from that. Now people can enjoy American strawberries with their Chinese soymilk and Kellog's bran flakes while they watch the morning news discussing how the Chinese GDP is affecting trade structures and political regulations. However, while we see the benefits in our own lives, how are children benefiting from this environment? They are able to benefit on a different level, by having the possibility to learn how to interact with other cultures and races more appropriately. Additionally they then learn more about their own heritage, and gain confidence in their own abilities and specialties. Not to mention that through this understanding and knowledge gain, children will be able to access various future opportunities that will emerge as globalisation continues to expand. Yew Chung International School of Beijing helps children operate and succeed in this globalising world, allowing children to receive the maximum benefits possible.
Minimal Overview:
Benefits Of A Globalised World For Children
The modern world of today has…
- Interlacing and dependant economies
- Greater movement of people across borders
- The sharing of knowledge globally
Older people may find these changes overwhelming, however for children growing up there are many benefits and opportunities…
Enhanced Understanding of Others
Improved Knowledge and Language
Future Opportunities
YCIS and Success
The way we think about schools and schooling must change to reflect the exponential changes that are happening in the world around us. This presentation uses the example of 3D printing to challenge how we think about knowledge and our approach to teaching and learning in the modern world.
American kids are out of shape, tuned out and stressed out because they’re missing something essential to their health and development, unstructured time playing outdoors.
National Wildlife Federation (NWF) created the Be Out There movement to give back to American children what they don’t even know they have lost: their connection to the natural world. In the process, NWF aims to help reverse alarming health trends and help families raise happier, healthier children. Signs everywhere show the spirit of the movement taking hold.

The three secrets for making a difference in the world: Helping with educatio...Logged On Foundation
Our CEO makes a case for using ICTs in education in rural schools in Nepal. The presentation is framed in terms of the "Three Secrets" or the essential elements that can help ensure that computers and the internet have a positive impact on the education of children in government schools. The presentation also goes onto discuss the positive impact technology can have on communities at large.
We hope that this presentation helps to advocate the benefits that technology can bring to less privileged areas of the world as well as what attributes are required, in our experience, to help ensure the successful outcomes of these types of projects. The presentation also promotes our work and we hope will allow us to gain more support from the public so we can continue to help more schools on a not-for-profit basis.
Most of the photos in the presentation were taken at our project sites in Nepal and are copyright of the author with a few public domain/open license photos and graphics used to illustrate the general discussion.

Learning Technology Zone: Thoughts and Ideas for Youth MinistersCaroline Cerveny
So our teens are tech savvy? What is possible on a bare bones budget that will allow us to collaborate and be creative in our being Digital Disciples? Is it possible to model using the technology they are comfortable with to be every day disciples?
Asks 3 important questions:
1. How has the digital revolution changed society?
2. What has it done to the ways in which people access and process information?
3. How do educators adapt to these new modes of learning?
Educational Priorities for the 21st CenturySam Gliksman
The current rate of technology advance, coupled with the rapid growth of the Internet, is revolutionizing society and the ways in which we communicate, connect and learn. In order to remain relevant, schools need to revise their educational objectives and prepare students with skills for a life of continual change and re-learning.

Similar to It takes a global village to raise a child today (20)
1. It takes a global village to raise a child today
2. Traditional African education “It takes a whole village to raise a child” Children were brought up largely by the process of socialization as opposed to the process of individualisation. Much of the learning that was going on was almost unconscious; the unstructured things a child learns from his family, friends, village etc.
3. Did every clan/chiefdom have an education system? Shujaa (1994) defineseducation as the process through which values, aesthetics, spiritual beliefs, and all the parts of a people’s unique cultural orientation are transmitted from one generation to the next. Education is also defined as the ‘whole process by which one generation transmits its culture to the succeeding generation’ or better still as ‘a process by which people are prepared to live effectively and efficiently in their environment’ (Sifuna and Otiende, 1994).
4. Think tank activity When re-examined, what aspects of the traditional African education would still be valuable today?
5. Now that the world has become a village, or better still, the world has become many villages, there might be a clear comparison with African indigenous education and education in the Knowledge Society.
6. It takes a global village to raise a child today This Bemba saying, Amano Mambulwa, means that one can access knowledge from a variety of sources. According to Mr. L. Kangwa this implies that a child today has access to knowledge from a wide range of sources. “With facilities like the internet a student in Zambia now can access knowledge and information anywhere, anytime. Unlike in the past when a child could only rely on his or her environment. Even where there is no internet, some content and pedagogy can be saved on CDs and DVDs and can be accessed offline.”
7. It takes a global village to raise a child today “The Zambian student is today faced with what I am calling the positive challenge in education. Gone are the days when learning was dependent upon a classroom teacher, or when the whole school would depend on the only few text books in the library. Learning has become easier and more available than ever before… Students can now access resources, information, data, books and even lessons on several subjects through the internet, and other e-learning programmes. In this way students are enabled to learn not only from their teacher but from several world resources, which are readily available online. Truly, slowly it is taking the whole global village to impart knowledge and raise a child.” (Mr.Sichinsambwe)
8. It takes a global village to raise a child today And this is what Mr.Msimuko Bright had to say: ” Learners need not only look to local teachers for answers and explanations. The whole world has been made able to offer solutions through internet. Generation of knowledge is felt and used by anyone who is able to access the internet. The global village is a legitimate teacher that should be reached by all students in the world.”
23. Home? Stand alone computer/laptop Connected computer/laptop Intranet Internet eLearning mLearning What ICT tools do you use?
24. Insaka? www.zambiaknowledgecentre.org An insaka for teaching and learning It will be Zambia’s searchable repository of recommended and best practice guidance on CPD, benchmarking studies on ODeL, thought leadership, presentations on the integration of ICT in education and much more. Our Knowledge Centre will be the ultimate place to find loads of tips and information designed to support and transform your teaching job at the Ministry of Education. It will also give detailed information on the MoE-VVOB multiyear programme (2008-2013) and all reports on the VVOB workshops, trainings and tools etc.
31. Think tank activity How are we going to design our Zambian Knowledge Centre? You have to design an educational portal in a digital environment. How would it look like? What categories would you make? Will organise resources per subject? Who would you consult in the making off? Etc.
