This inspired him to start an organization to address this issue. He co-founded Room to Read in 2001 to increase literacy and gender equality in education in developing countries through programs like developing reading skills in primary students and supporting girls to complete secondary school. As of 2012, Room to Read has established over 1,600 schools and 13,500 libraries benefiting 6 million children across 10 countries in Asia and Africa.

Before we shake hands: representation and the global future of education kioglobal
A lot passes between people before they ever shake hands and meet properly. In the digital age, we have the ability to find out about a thing before we ever encounter it. Many people we ‘know’ about, we will never shake hands with. So, representation becomes very important: how things are represented in the media and in our education.

The document discusses the need for a more diverse curriculum at a school. It notes that the school's population currently lacks diversity, giving students a false impression of the diverse global population. The initiative's vision is to help students celebrate differences and gain skills through exposure to a multicultural approach using diverse materials, technology, and literature. Research shows that developing assets like social competencies and positive identity in students helps enrich development and foster a diverse society where all youth thrive. The school plans to increase diverse toys, stories, and a cyber-buddy program to motivate students and teachers to adopt a new way of thinking. It seeks community support to help students succeed in a global market.

Face to Faith is an educational program that connects students from around the world of different faiths and none. It aims to promote cross-cultural understanding, provide skills for interfaith dialogue, and help students resist extremism. The program uses video conferencing and online forums for students to discuss global issues and different religious perspectives. Educators praise Face to Faith for giving students opportunities to engage with those from different backgrounds and find common ground, making them more well-rounded global citizens.
The document discusses three key issues facing education: lack of student motivation, overuse of technology, and global youth unemployment. It proposes that expanding education to focus on developing student purpose, relationships, and life skills can help address these issues. Strong teacher-student relationships are important for motivation. While technology provides opportunities, overuse can harm well-being, so balance is needed. Providing work experience can help students identify interests and prepare for future careers. The goal is for students to become thriving, purposeful members of society.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

5. Everything you read fills your head with new bits of information, and you never know
when it might come in handy. The more knowledge you have, the better-equipped you
are to tackle any challenge you’ll ever face. Additionally, here’s a bit of food for thought:
should you ever find yourself in dire circumstances, remember that although you might
lose everything else—your job, your possessions, your money, even your health—
knowledge can never be taken from you.

6. Intellectual capital is the brain behind economic
and socio-political growth in a country. Reading is
one of the cheapest forms of entertainment, it is
even free on the internet or libraries. It
can stimulate your analytic thinking abilities and

have the best learning citadels.
I have a dream that all Nigerians will be given an opportunity to
have affordable education in an environment that is secure and
stable; where our minds are not abused by the content on the
media but upheld by our history and culture.
We are Nigerians and we will deliver the future of our beloved
Country Nigeria!!
8. Nigeria like many other world countries
has an educational system that is facing a
siege with an academy full of learners yet
few readers, is our challenge peculiar? The
answer is NO. It is a world class challenge.
The more the entry of the media, the less
the concentration on prints and the more
we are loosing in leadership because there
are no informative methods to make the
children productive.
Have you ever imagined what Africa would

Yes! Readers because it matters what you
read not just that you read!
9. We believe that teachers are
the bane of education and the
foundation of a child’s learning

need for teachers to be
readers themselves as they are
the first depositors of
information and the donors of
knowledge.
They must Read, if they must
