Extinction occurs when all members of a species die off and the species disappears from Earth permanently. Examples of extinct animals include dinosaurs, dodos, mammoths, and the Bali tiger. Climate change, habitat destruction, overhunting, pollution, deforestation, invasive species, and overpopulation are factors that can lead to species extinction by reducing habitats, changing ecosystems, and depleting resources. When invasive species are introduced to new ecosystems, they can significantly alter the environment and drive other native species to extinction. Overpopulation stresses resources as population growth outpaces food supply.
