2. Introduction
 Alcoholic drinks or beverages are prohibited in Islam and even a small amount of drink added into foods or drinks
will render the products Haram for Muslim users.
 Different methods are used for the quantification of the alcohol in food and beverages are high-performance liquid
chromatography-flame ionization, gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, and Fourier transform near
infrared. However, these methods usually involve expensive equipment and complex sample preparation procedures.
 Biosensors are analytical devices to acquire specific quantitative data by the combination of biological element like
enzymes with a transducer.
 In this biosensor, for the stabilization of enzymes conducting polymer will be used. The visual biosensor will detect
the presence of ethanol by changing its color .

3. Problem Statement

 The detection of ethanol in food and beverages by analytical methods such as
gas chromatography is very expensive and require tedious sample preparation
procedures.

4. Objectives

1. The objective of the study is to develop a Biosensor for
alcohol detection to be used for food and beverages
contamination.
2. The Halal certification of imported food products must be
attained prior to consumption for muslim community through
quick test.
3. The use of enzymes as an alternate agent for the
determination of alcohol in beverages.

5. Novelty

The visual biosensor will do the quick assessment of ethanol in drinks and foods.
It will be easy to use and will have a greater response time.
