This document provides an overview of a light and temperature sensor project. The sensor will take light and temperature readings every 15 minutes and transmit the data every hour up to 3km to a gateway, and can store a week's worth of data if the gateway is unavailable. The sensor uses an MSP430 microcontroller, light and temperature sensors, and an RF module, powered by batteries that should last two years. The document discusses the hardware and software components, power management techniques to maximize battery life, and concludes that two AA alkaline batteries should be sufficient to power the sensor.
