Open Energi is a company that uses IoT technology to generate revenue from energy intensive equipment by having that equipment intelligently respond to energy supply and demand. They have created a new energy economy that is cleaner, cheaper and more secure by enabling bidirectional energy flow that supports renewable integration. Their patented technology aggregates demand side response resources to shift up to 10% of energy demand while rewarding businesses. Open Energi fills peaks and troughs in energy demand beyond what base load power can provide.
Open Energi asked us to help them explain their exciting solution to the energy demand crunch. Working directly with the client, I established the big picture story behind demand response, allowing the client to use this infographic for its sales initiatives promoting clean, secure and affordable energy.

Capstone project completed with Alan Thai and Arthur Yip. Briefly, we describe our MATLAB model for a renewable energy hub consisting of solar panels, wind turbines and an electrolyzer for generating hydrogen. The generated hydrogen was then used to run hydrogen-powered forklifts. The environmental and financial analysis were shown to be sufficient to warrant further investigation.

With Brexit and Donald Trump coming into power it has been an interesting start to the year, and one we are looking forward to unfolding...

The energy industry is transforming. Emerging technologies, regulations and enlightened consumers are presenting challenges never before experienced by utilities. In order to survive and thrive in this new paradigm, progressive utilities need to explore their demand side opportunities and the relationship with their consumer. This will involve providing new, personalized services that support the desire to access and leverage the expanding world of distributed energy resources.
Today, the only things stopping these transitions is a lack of knowledge about what’s possible and the tools needed to turn energy into a truly personalized service. Tendril, and other companies in this evolving space, are addressing these challenges with a new class of solutions called Energy Services Management.
The following presentation goes into more detail on the evolution of the market, the importance of delivering energy as a service and the associated technology requirements.

How to make sustainability part of your energy strategy - presented by James Graham, Head of Direct Sales, at the Energy Management Forum event in Birmingham on 20th May 2015.
Honeywell VP of Global Energy Kent Anson addresses Bright Green attendees in Copenhagen on December 13 with a frank account of the opportunities and challenges associated with commercial and industrial energy efficiency campaigns. He examines the role that green buildings play in climate change efforts through case studies on Honeywell’s work with CCI cities such as Seoul and Melbourne. Nearly 50% of Honeywell’s product portfolio is linked to energy efficiency and the company estimates that the global economy could operate on 10-25% less energy just by using today’s existing Honeywell technologies.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Editor's Notes
- Open Energi is turning the energy system on it’s head, so that instead of supply adjusting to meet demand, demand adjusts to meet supply
By harnessing small amounts of flexible energy demand from energy-intensive equipment we can create a virtual power station and displace fossil-fuelled peaking power stations
This is enabling a user-led transformation in how our energy system works, so that businesses and consumers are not only making it happen, but also seeing the benefits
It’s a vital part of our transition to a zero carbon economy because we cannot maximise our use of renewables unless our demand for energy becomes more responsive
