Whitepaper - LoraWAN and Cellular IoT (NB-IoT, LTE-M): How do they complement...Actility
Ericsson’s Mobility Report [3] forecasts that by 2022 more than seventeen billion IoT devices will be connected by wireless communication technologies. The Internet of Things (IoT) market targeting low power, low cost and low-data rate devices capable of communicating over a wide area network -the LPWAN market- is growing very rapidly.
In recent years, there have been significant technological developments in wireless IoT connectivity, with multiple technologies sometimes competing and often responding to different IoT use case requirements. Hence, choosing the right mix of connectivity solutions requires careful consideration. In this paper, we examine both cellular IoT (NB-IoT, Cat-M1) and LoRaWAN, and demonstrate that the two technologies are complementary.
We show how operators extend existing M2M use cases and swap 2G using cellular IoT, and in addition tap into the new unlicensed IoT market space using LoRaWAN. Interestingly, LoRaWAN is a natural over-the-top play for cellular IoT operators, as cellular IoT is an ideal backhaul technology for unlicensed LPWAN concentrators.
To meet the new connectivity requirements of the emerging IoT segment, 3GPP has taken evolutionary steps on both the network side and the device side. A single technology or solution cannot be ideal to all the different potential IoT applications, market situations and spectrum availability. As a result, the 3GPP standardizing several technologies, including Extended Coverage GSM (EC-GSM), LTE-M and NB-IoT.
LTE-M, NB-IoT and EC-GSM are all superior solutions to meet IoT requirements as a family of solutions, and can complement each other based on technology availability, use case requirements and deployment scenarios. The evolution for these technologies is shown in figure #5. Technical studies and normative work for the support of Machine Type Communication (MTC) as part of 3GPP LTE specifications for RAN began in 3GPP Release 12 and are continuing with the goals of developing features optimized for devices with MTC traffic.
No one doubts that the licensed LPWANs will open up new business opportunities. But how can customers be taken beyond the POC phase when 75% of IoT projects fail? How can new revenue streams be integrated into existing infrastructure without risk?
Learn how to tame IoT complexity with a vendor structure simpler than you thought possible in order to lower your risk, cost, and time-to-market and start making revenue with IoT.

LPWAN Technologies for Internet of Things (IoT) and M2M ScenariosPeter R. Egli
Rapid technological advances in the past made possible the miniaturization of network devices to meet the cost and power consumption requirements in IoT and M2M scenarios. What is missing in this picture is a radio technology with both long range capability and a very low cost footprint. Existing radio technologies such as 3G/4G or Short Range Radio do not aptly meet the requirements of IoT scenarios because they are either too expensive or are not able to provide the required range. Other wireless technologies are geared towards high bandwidth which is in most cases not a requirement for IoT.
Emerging LPWAN technologies such as ETSI LTN or LoRAWAN are poised for filling the gap by providing long range (up to 40km) and low power connectivity. These technologies allow low cost radio devices and operation thus enabling scaling up IoT applications.
Overview of which LPWAN technologies (LoRa, Sigfox, Weightless, etc.) are right for various IoT applications. Clear look at the pros and cons of each technology.

Internet of Things (IoT) - We Are at the Tip of An IcebergDr. Mazlan Abbas
You are likely benefitting from The Internet of Things (IoT) today, whether or not you’re familiar with the term. If your phone automatically connects to your car radio, or if you have a smartwatch counting your steps, congratulations! You have adopted one small piece of a very large IoT pie, even if you haven't adopted the name yet.
IoT may sound like a business buzzword, but in reality, it’s a real technological revolution that will impact everything we do. It's the next IT Tsunami of new possibility that is destined to change the face of technology, as we know it. IoT is the interconnectivity between things using wireless communication technology (each with their own unique identifiers) to connect objects, locations, animals, or people to the Internet, thus allowing for the direct transmission of and seamless sharing of data.
IoT represents a massive wave of technical innovation. Highly valuable companies will be built and new ecosystems will emerge from bridging the offline world with the online into one gigantic new network. Our limited understanding of the possibilities hinders our ability to see future applications for any new technology. Mainstream adoption of desktop computers and the Internet didn’t take hold until they became affordable and usable. When that occurred, fantastic and creative new innovation ensued. We are on the cusp of that tipping point with the Internet of Things.
IoT matters because it will create new industries, new companies, new jobs, and new economic growth. It will transform existing segments of our economy: retail, farming, industrial, logistics, cities, and the environment. It will turn your smartphone into the command center for the both digital and physical objects in your life. You will live and work smarter, not harder – and what we are seeing now is only the tip of the iceberg.
This talk is about the relationships and problems between digital identities and the data silos where we are storing all our digital life. I will go into deeper details about the Pandora Security model (a new model for dealing such problems), the need for a truly decentralised and persistent web and how to build a new digital tradition. (see for reference my last blog "what Pirandello, Rifkin and Pandora have to do with digital identity" and "Are we building a new kind of tradition?" on http://blog.zigolab.it)
LoRa Alliance Extends LoRaWAN Standard to Support the Internet of Things Applications
The LoRa Alliance Extends LoRaWAN Standard to Support IoT Applications by adding TS013-1.0.0, an application programming interface (API) for application payload decoder-encoders (codecs).
The LoRa Alliance reported it on October 25, 2022. The consortium is the global association supporting the Internet of Things (IoT), Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) open LoRaWAN standard.
Adopting the new TS013-1.0.0 specification will allow device manufacturers and application service providers to reduce deployment complexity. This will make it easier and faster to deploy LoRaWAN devices.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.
