IOT-
INTERNET OF
THINGS
INTRODUCTION
• IOT !!!What the fuss all about?
• IOT in real life
• IOT use cases
• Is existingTelco NW not good enough for IOT?
• What is LPWAN/LPN?
• What are different LPWAN technologies?
• Key aspects of IOT
• IOT & Smart Cities
• Challenges
• Way Forward
AGENDA
• Internet was initially build to enhance communication between humans and
has grown exponentially providing various engagement platforms likeVOIP,
Chat, Share, Broadcast etc.
• Now, focus is on to connect things with Internet and enable interconnectivity
between things and humans.
• Things with one or more senses connected together to build a smart society
(home, building, company, city, country).
FROM PEOPLE TO THINGS
• Scope and application of IOT is broad and ever expanding. Some of the
prominent applications of IOT include:
• Smart Home
• Smart Metering
• Intelligent Parking
• Street Lighting
• Health Care
• Traffic Management
• Weather and Disaster Management
IOT USE CASES
IOT: NUTS & BOLTS
Sensors
Connectivity
Software
• Connectivity has evolved in terms of Range, Speed.
• There are range of technologies available today to cater to different
requirements.
• These technologies often requires higher energy cost and heavy protocol
and focus more on bandwidth.
• To connect things/sensors which needs high range, less bandwidth and lower
energy consumption needs new type of connectivity.
• LPWAN (Low PowerWide Area Network) was born out of this
requirement.
CONNECTIVITY
LPWAN REQUIREMENT
LPWAN TECHNOLOGIES
• SKT chose to build IOT Network based on LoRA AllianceTechnology.
• SKT is member of LoRA Alliance and investor in Sigfox.
• SKT claims to be first in the world to build nation wide IOT network.
• The IOT network uses unlicensed ISM(Industrial Scientific and Medical)
frequency band.
• SKT not only managed to deploy IOT network across the country, it also
pioneered in commercializing the solution.
IOT IN SKT
• It’s an uphill journey on the path of IOT.
CHALLENGES
Security
Adoption
ARPU
Tech. Maturity
• IOT is going to change the way we live in coming years.
• It’s estimated that IOT would connect 50 billion devices.
• We will witness a roller costar ride in the journey of maturing IOT.
• Concerns of Privacy, Security, unwanted surveillance would grow.
• It’s going to make our more comfortable but complicated.
WAY FORWARD
