What is Prosthesis???
Artificial appliance used to replace part of the body
Prosthodontic Dentistry
• Branch of dental art and science that replace
missing teeth and supportive structures (bridge,
denture) by artificial devices to restore and
maintain oral function.

          Dental Prosthesis
• It is an art that replace missing teeth and
supporting dento-alveolar structures (gingiva –
PDL – Bone)

Denture
Denture is an artificial replacement appliance
(removable) for missing natural teeth and
supporting structures (complete or partial).



Complete Denture
Is a dental prosthesis replacing the missing
teeth and associated structures of the
edentulous maxilla and / or mandible.
Complete Denture
Objectives:
-   Function (mastication)
-   Speech
-   Appearance (Esthetics)
-   Satisfaction and comfort
-   Tissue preservation
Denture Surfaces
1- Impression, tissue or fitting surface
   Surface recorded by
  impression and fitted
      to mucosa and
     extended to the
    border of denture.
2- Occlusal Surface
  The surface that
  occlude with
  opposing denture or
  natural dentition.
3- Polished surface:
-Highly polished surface.
-Extended from borders to occlousal surface
Denture border
The margin of the denture base at the
junction of the polished surface with fitting
surface.
It must be rounded and smooth.

Denture flange
It is the vertical extension of the upper and
lower dentures.
