This document introduces evidence-based research (EBR). It discusses the scientific ideal of building upon past knowledge through new discoveries. It presents evidence that researchers often fail to systematically review and incorporate existing evidence when designing and justifying new studies. It suggests implementing systematicity and transparency in all research phases to ensure research is relevant, necessary and placed in proper context. Finally, it discusses the potential impacts of EBR in reducing waste, false positives and reversals while improving resource allocation and restoring trust in research.
