An increasing number of Consumer and Internet Internet of Things applications require some form of edge computing characterised by low latency, peer-to-peer communication, and mobility. Fog computing has recently emerged as the paradigm to address the needs of edge computing in IoT applications. Fog computing complements Cloud computing to allow the design and implementation of IoT systems that scale better, are more reactive and in which local communication and decision is enabled whenever possible. This presentation introduces the key concepts behind Fog Computing, compare and contrast it with Cloud Computing and explain how the VORTEX platform enables Fog computing architectures.

Synthesizing Plausible Infrastructure Configurations for Evaluating Edge Comp...

This paper proposes a framework for synthesizing infrastructure configurations for evaluating edge computing systems under different conditions. There are a number of tools to sim- ulate or emulate edge systems, and while they typically provide ways of modeling infrastructure and network topologies, they lack reusable building blocks common to edge scenarios. Consequently, most edge computing systems evaluations to this date rely on either highly application-specific testbeds, or abstract scenarios and abstract infrastructure configurations. We analyze four existing or emerging edge infrastructure scenarios, from which we elicit common concepts. The scenarios serve as input to synthesize plausible infrastructure configurations, that are parameterizable in cluster density, device heterogeneity, and network topology. We demonstrate how our tool can generate synthetic infrastructure configurations for the reference scenarios, and how these configurations can be used to evaluate aspects of edge computing systems.

Cloud computing is an emerging model of business computing. Cloud computing is a service, which offers customers to work over the internet. It simply states that cloud computing means storing and accessing the data and programs over the internet rather than the computer's hard disk. The data can be anything such as music, files, images, documents, and many more. The user can access the data from anywhere just with the help of an internet connection. To access cloud computing, the user should register and provide with ID and password for security reasons. The speed of transfer depends on various factors such as internet speed, the capacity of the server, and many more. In this paper, we explore the understanding the determinates of security and privacy in cloud computing, Cloud Computing architecture and We also address the characteristics and applications of several popular cloud computing platforms. We identified several challenges from the cloud computing adoption perspective and we also highlighted the cloud interoperability issue that deserves substantial further research and development. However, security and privacy issues present a strong barrier for users to adapt to cloud computing systems. Cloud computing is Internet based development and use of computer technology. It is a style of computing in which dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources are provided as a service over the Internet. Users need not have knowledge of, expertise in, or control over the technology infrastructure "in the cloud" that supports them. Cloud computing is a hot topic all over the world nowadays, through which customers can access information and computer power via a web browser. As the adoption and deployment of cloud computing increase, it is critical to evaluate the performance of cloud environments. Currently, modeling and simulation technology has become a useful and powerful tool in cloud computing research community to deal with these issues. Cloud simulators are required for cloud system testing to decrease the complexity and separate quality concerns. Cloud computing means saving and accessing the data over the internet instead of local storage. In this paper, we have provided a short review on the types, models and architecture of the cloud environment.
