4.8 Signs Barricades
4.4.8 Signs, Signal and Barricades
The use of signs, signals, and barricades is essential to make employees aware that an immediate or
potential hazard exists. Both traffic and health hazards such as airborne lead are examples of hazards
on bridge renovation/demolition sites that require signs and other devices. The following sections
discuss the primary ways that employees are made aware of hazards in their work areas. Signs,
signals, regulated areas, and barricades must be used on each construction project as appropriate.
A. Accident Prevention Signs/Tags
Danger Signs are used wherever an immediate hazard (i.e., exposed electrical conductor) exists. The
danger signs must have red as the predominant color in the upper panel and ... Show more content on

Equipment with such a tag may not be used until the tag is removed.
B. Signaling
Flagmen or other appropriate traffic controls must be provided for operations where signs, signals, and
barricades do not provide the necessary protection on or adjacent to a highway or street.
Stop/Slow sign paddles must be used by flagmen when hand signaling. Red flags, at least 18 in (45.7
cm) square, may be temporarily used in traffic control.
Flagmen are required to wear a red or orange reflective warning vest and a hard hat while flagging.
Required signs and symbols must be visible at all times when work is being done, and removed or
covered promptly when the hazard no longer exists.
C. Cones, Barrels, Barricades, and Barriers
Channelizing devices such as cones, barrels, or barricades are required for jobsite roadways presenting
a hazard to motorized equipment or vehicles. Barriers may also provide a greater degree of work zone
protection.
D. Regulated Work Areas
In adjacent to areas where overexposures to the lead PEL exist, warning signs informing employees
and visitors of the lead hazards must be posted. The signs should

Inhumanity Of Torture
Inhumanity of Torture I struggled without success to breathe I thought I was going to die. I lost control
of my urine. (Abu Zubaydah) Many detainees are faced with acts of torture in order to obtain
information. The detainees are deprived of their dignities, beaten with approved methods of physical
contact, and threatened. Torture isn t justified by any means. It affects people physically and mentally,
it s inhumane, and against the 8th Amendment. Torture isn t justified because it affects people
mentally and physically. Often detainees fears are used against them. The use of insects inside the box
was also approved to exploit a phobia Abu Zubaydah had (Laughland, 2015) Using someone s fear

The Eighth Amendment states, excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor
cruel and unusual punishments inflicted. Although it s unclear on how to measure the cruelty on a
punishment, many torture methods are undoubtedly, cruel and unusual. For example, rectal feeding
and rehydration. According to a CIA cable released in the report, his lunch tray consisting of hummus,
pasta with sauce, nuts and raisins was pureed and rectally infused . (Olivia Laughland) Detainees,
Majid Khan and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, were both subjected to rectal feeding. Mohammed was
also subjected to rectal rehydration without any medical purpose. The definition of cruel is to willfully
cause pain or suffering to others, and the definition of unusual is not commonly occurring or done.
With that being said, those acts of torture are unquestionably, considered cruel and unusual being they
both are causing pain in an uncommon way as a form of punishment. On the other hand, some believe
torture is justified. They may argue that it s important to do whatever it takes to get the information
needed, or to save the lives of others. It could also be viewed as justice for the crimes that have been
committed. An argument some have is that the ends justify the means. The end does not justify the
means. It s about being the better person and having everyone feel safe and secure in a place where

Causes Of The Mexican Peso Crisis
People think it takes little to fix things since it took little mistakes to bring Mexico s economy down.
The Mexican peso crisis started because of the U.S. influence towards Mexico s currency. The U.S.
dollar has a significant value, and after the huge increased it had during the end of the year of 1994,
the Mexican economy went down. People were choked and panicking, and investors were flying out
of the country, making things even worse. What is the Peso Crisis? To begin with, the peso crisis
started in December 1994 because of the sudden devaluation of the peso towards the dollar. As a
matter of fact, this all took place after the new Mexican president was elected and took over the
presidency. One of the biggest controversies at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On December 1994 the dollar value went from 3.46 to 6.94 in March 1995. The drastic change in the
Peso currency took Mexico s economy to another level. The peso had been devaluated for more than
90%. Prices in Mexico went really high in a really short period of time; and as a matter of fact, that
took their economy to destruction. Both presidents, Salinas and Zedillo, as economists, they must have
had an idea on how decreasing the value of the peso against the U.S. dollar would affect their
economy. On the other hand, after the government realized what they got themselves into, both
presidents, Zedillo and Salinas, started blaming each other this crisis. Mexico s economic crisis could
have been prevented. In the first place, the actual president at the time, Ernesto Zedillo, had the
smartest idea of telling the foreign companies and corporation, that had money invested in Mexico,
that he (his government) was going to devaluate the peso (on his opinion which was a need at the
time, but a not so smart idea on warning the companies that had invested a lot of money inside the
country). Therefore, this generated the majority of the foreign capital to run away from Mexico, and
let it sink. A dollar was being paid for 3 pesos, and after the devaluation, it was being paid a little over
6 pesos, and as of the present day of November 2017, it is valuated over 19 pesos per dollar. This

Abstract
The people in the world that we live in are extremely diverse, in terms of the nationalities, religions,
gender classifications and physical abilities. Social workers must have a clear understanding of the
consequences of diversity and difference and the mechanisms of oppression and discrimination as they
relate to human development. The range of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds that social
workers will practice in is huge. Because of this, social workers must have an understanding of the

Iran Contra Affair Essays
The Iran Contra scandal had a big effect on the United States but it had a huge effect on Nicaragua.
Through out 1985 86, the Reagan administration was selling weapons to Iran illegally in order to
encourage Iran to free hostages in the Middle East. Meanwhile, the Reagan administration wanted to
support the Contras in Nicaragua, a rebel group fighting to overthrow the Sandinista government. The
administration decided to use the money made from selling arms to Iran, and had it sent to the Contras
without passing through the United States. (Walsh, p2.) In this paper, I am going to provide the
background of the situation. I will explain how the money from the missile sales was used to support
the Contras. I will also tell how everything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1984, the CIA sowed mines in a major port in Nicaragua causing a severe amount of damage. The
Contras took credit for this. But a few weeks later the press exposed the CIA involvement. In
response, Congress passed a second Boland Amendment, which said that neither the CIA nor the
Defense Department could fund the Contras, either directly or indirectly. From then on the
administration worked through the National Security Council, and NSC staff member Oliver North.
NSC William Clark established Office of Public Diplomacy for Latin America and the Caribbean
(housed in State Department but reported to the NSC), Oliver North attended the meetings:
responsible for all Contra affairs. Because the CIA was prohibited from operating inside the United
States, Director William Casey had senior propaganda specialist Walter Raymond transferred to the
NSC. As Raymond declared, his job was to concentrate on gluing black hats on Sandinistas and white
hats on Contras. (Kornbluh, p.5) All this time, CIA intelligence analysts were saying that the Contras
couldn t win, even with American support. Robert Owen, Oliver North s personal intermediary with
the Contras is quoted as saying they were simply profiteers. 1 Meanwhile, during 1985 86, as
mentioned earlier, the Reagan administration was selling weapons to Iran illegally in order to
encourage Iran to free hostages in the Middle East. After the 1979 hostage situation at the United

In the seventh century. In contrast, Pharaoh Cleopatra was born in 69 BC and was born into royalty as
part of the Ptolemaic dynasty, who ruled after the death of Alexander the Great (Ancient Egypt
Online, 2016). She obtained her position by first becoming co ruler to her father Ptolemy XII.Wu
Zetian personal name was Wu Zhao, often referred to as Tian Hou during the Tang Dynasty was the
only woman in the history of China to assume the title of Empress Regent. When she was young, she
read many books and received a great education from her father. At the age of 14, she was selected to
be Emperor Taizhong s Cai Ren because she was beauty and intelligence. Her most glorious title was
that she was the only female emperor in Chinese history who rule the country for almost half a
century. She used murder and treachery to become Empress of China.
Considering the events of her life, literary allusions to Wu Zetian can carry several connotations: a
woman who has inappropriately overstepped her bounds, the hypocrisy of preaching compassion
while simultaneously engaging in a pattern of corrupt and vicious behavior, and ruling by pulling
strings in the background. For many centuries, Wu was used by the Chinese establishment as an
example of what can go wrong when a woman is placed in charge. Such sexist opposition to her was
only lifted during the late 1960s, when Mao Zedong s wife Jiang Qing rehabilitated Wu as part of a
propaganda campaign

Communism And Communism Essay
China and Oceania are strikingly similar to each other. However, both countries are ruled by two
different political ideologies. To this day in China, the government organizes themselves under the
Communist party. Communism is, in theory, a classless society in which all wealth and property are
owned by the community as a whole, although in reality, there are few variations of this definition as
every society is different. Every building and plot of land is owned by the community. The true goal of
communism is to have a society without rulers, but Mao Zedong forged his own path and abandoned
this principle. When Mao Zedong gained control over China, he first hunted down the remaining

A totalitarian government is own that is ruled by a single party, has total control of the military and
communication, uses terror as a controlled tactic, and controls the economy. In Oceania, Big Brother
dominates his citizens, military, and economy. While being tortured, one man says, I don t care who it
is or what you do to them. I ve got a wife and three children. The biggest of them isn t six years old.
You can take the whole lot of them and cut their throats in front of my eyes, and I ll stand by and

deplorable that the prisoner would rather see his own wife and children suffer it over him. The use of
torture forces confessions from every prisoner and influences them to act and say as the government
pleases, establishing complete control. The government also exerts their control over Oceania by
limiting the products in society: At any given moment there was some necessary article which the
Party shops were unable to supply. Sometimes it was buttons, sometimes it was darning wool,
sometimes it was shoelaces; at present it was razor blades (Orwell 48). Orwell describes earlier, As a

Code Talkers Summary
Remember back in elementary school when friends of yours would create a language or signs to have
a conversation without anyone knowing what you are talking about? Well, Code Talkers is very
similar to creating a code in school, but more intense and heightened. William R. Wilson, a writer and
photographer goes in debt to explain how the Navajo language was brought to serve as a new code in
the U.S. Military in World War II. He also writes about who the military has to use to interpret and
send out messages for militia combat plans. The author does an exceptional job at being very clear and
informative in this article.
The article first starts to discuss how the beginning of World War II was declining fast for the United
States after being hit at Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. U.S. Armed Force Officials realized the
communications between branches of military and allies were being intercepted by Japanese
cryptologers. Phillip Johnston, a civil engineer soon came to the conclusion of using Navajo Indians

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2012, the United States Supreme Court also ruled
that states could decide for themselves whether or not to expand their Medicaid programs (Sonfield,
2012). Predictably, South Carolina said no. The Palmetto State s decision not to expand Medicaid in

In other words, the state s taxpayers will be on the hook for $1 billion, with the number of uninsured
exceeding the combined populations of Greenville, Charleston and Columbia. (Populations of South
Carolina Cities, 2010) So far Gov. Nikki Haley is unmoved. Haley and the state s conservative
legislature have refused to accept the $13.3 billion in federal funds, arguing that the state will be

George Arnold And George Herbert s Dover Beach And Easter...
Some might claim human suffering is a natural part of life. Others may argue pain is inevitable, but
suffering is optional. The speaker in Matthew Arnold s Dover Beach appears to shield from the current
state of despair in the living world through the glorification of personal relationships. The speaker in
George Herbert s Easter Wings appears to simply embrace the world s suffering as a catalyst for God s
mercy, to bring strength and spiritual intimacy through Christ s crucifixion and resurrection. Both
speakers of Matthew Arnold s Dover Beach and George Herbert s Easter Wings lament the current
state of suffering in humanity. While the speakers may appear to have differing beliefs, they both have
hidden fears that place their hope in the afterlife. Arnold s Dover Beach opens with a tranquil scene. A
place where waves crash on the shoreline of the English Channel, and a couple gazes out a window at
the moonlit water. The speaker uses the imagery and sound of pebbles in the surf to create a metaphor
for the story of souls and the persistent, incremental decline of faith that his culture has suffered. The
poem ends with the suggestion of promulgating love in a world of violence and fear and pain. This is
actually a metaphor, for God is love. When the speaker promotes love between couples, this love is
what will help prove their faith, not denounce it.
In Dover Beach, the speaker appears to blame the retrograde of the Sea of Faith (line 21) for the world

Nationalism s Role In World War I
Nationalism is the strong belief that the interests of a particular nation state is of primary importance.
It also is the belief that a people who share a common language, history, and culture should have an

and World War II. It is shown in nationalists groups such as the KMT, through new ideas such as
Nazism or Fascism, and during events that happen during wars and revolutions, such as the Salt

Shen Congwen The New And The Old Summary
Writer Shen Congwen is not as straightforward politically involved as Lu Xun is in his short stories.
Shen Congwen writes about revolution through a series of lenses that is quite different from that of Lu
Xun. Where Lu Xun takes a more rational stance on how things should progress in China through
revolution, Shen Congwen wants the reader to see the beauty in revolution and life as a Chinese
citizen. In his short story The New and the Old, the reader experiences a dramatic scene about a
soldier who is called upon to carry out an execution. As the story continues, the reader discovers that
this executioner is the best one in town, and that his executions are seen as a true art, not very many

A Streetcar Named Desire Illusion Vs Reality Analysis
One s desire for a better sense of self perception has the power to convince themselves that living in a
state of illusions is more fulfilling than facing the reality of their problems. When an individual is
faced with the idea that others see them as a negative character, as per human nature, the individual
will turn to their own self perception to get a better opinion of themselves and, completely ignore their
own ability to see the differences between illusion and reality. As the result of being placed in an
unfamiliar environment, surrounded by conflicts that one cannot understand due to human nature, it is
possible for an individual to re live their own imagination and past successes. In order for one to
realize and clear the confusion, they must revisit their happy place, also known as illusions.
Throughout the play Tennessee Williams play A Streetcar Named Desire presents how illusions and
reality are affecting an individual. Blanche DuBois and character in A ... Show more content on

the bright lights to be turned off, due to her self consciousness. By being exposed by the light, Blanche

Summary Of John Updike s A P
John Updike s A P offers numerous viewpoints for critical interpretation. Descriptive metaphors and
the causal sexual tones embraced in the story are just a drop of water in the ocean. Sammy s male
chauvinism can be pinched from the initial outline and thus leading to a gender analysis. Going deeper
in the read not only reveals the critic s biographical perspective but also his formalism. After a number
of readings I have appreciated the perspective that is the bizarre setting of A P. Sammy s storytelling
techniques reveal the social and economic differences and give us a biographical aspect at Updike s
sentiments and understandings. An essay posted on the internet reveals Updike as one who exhibited

The Volcanic Eruption Of Mount Tambora
In the New York Times article A Volcanic Eruption That Reverberates 200 Years Later, William J.
Broad discusses how the volcanic eruption of Mount Tambora, the most powerful eruption in recorded
history (Broad) played a role in icy weather, agricultural collapse, global and pandemic and even gave
rise to celebrated monsters. (Broad) In April of 1815, Mount Tambora, located in modern day
Indonesia, erupted killing tens of thousands of innocent people. As a result of this eruption,
investigators found that the giant cloud of miniscule particles spread around the globe, blocked
sunlight and produced three years of planetary cooling. (Broad) Moreover, the planetary effects [were]
so extreme that many nations and communities sustained waves of famine, disease, civil unrest, and
economic decline. (Broad) In other words, there was a distorted pattern of weather that lasted
approximately three years; thus ensuing cold weather, darkness, and even blizzards directly affecting
the growth of crops which led to more loss of life. In particular, the summer of 1816 also known as the
year without a summer, is credited for not only paintings of fiery sunsets and tempestuous skies, but
also the birth of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein; or The Modern Prometheus. Furthermore, it is this very
freakish event of nature that sets the tone for the theme of nature in Frankenstein. Nature, as the
setting to create, nature that soothes, and nature that destructs.

Plato And Aristotle s Life Essay
In much of both Plato and Aristotle s works there seems to be a general trend about the best way to
live one s life and the different facets, actions and experiences one should encounter to reach this
position. For Plato such claims can be clearly examined through his work entitled the Phaedo where
he tunes into the qualification of what characteristics of human beings make up the essential pieces to
one achieving the best life. Uniquely, in the instance of the Phaedo this comes by means of The Myth
of Minotaur where a half man half bull is creature is formed, locked away and eventually slain by
Theseus. However, such story signifies more than just the killing of beast for Socrates in Plato s text
but rather stands as a metaphor for Socrates s death in which he represents the beast combined of body
and soul slain by Athens. For it is the soul that leads to the best life of rational thinking but being
combined with the body creates a beast which is all that is seen by Athens. Aristotle also makes an
interpretation as to the best life one is to live in his text entitled Nicomachean Ethics. Throughout this
work Aristotle makes continuous points as to why happiness should be the ultimate goal to anyones
life. However, this can only be achieved through a life of contemplation and theory. For Aristotle
states that in order for one to follow down the path to happiness one needs to be virtuous through
contemplation and thought. While Plato and Aristotle have different ways in

The Song By Bruce Springsteen
I was not born in the United States; yet, Bruce Springsteen s Born in the U.S.A. hit from his 1984
album by the same title is still culturally and politically significant. Springsteen is one of those artists
that is still heard in modern times because of the great amount of fame he has acquired throughout his
career. The song bring some attention to the wrongdoings of the United States government in their
treatment of their veterans, especially after the Vietnam War. It raises awareness by using a catchy
melody to draw listeners in; but Springsteen fails to achieve his ultimate goal of influencing young
adults to protest against their government because the memorable words in the chorus overshadow the
plot in the verses. This makes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Springsteen s choice to involve himself in political issues, although not explicitly, was something that
was building up throughout his life as he transitioned from a young adult to an adult in his mid
thirties. As explained by New York Times writer Nicholas Dawidoff in an article from 1997 titled The
Pop Populist , Springsteen s main concerns were not that of chasing young woman, but that of needing
to change the world around him (Dawidoff). By the time Springsteen wrote Born in the U.S.A. , he
had already built a good reputation for himself in the United States. This makes it possible for
Springsteen to influence large crowds of people to take action or, at the very least, listen to what he
has to say. Ronald Reagan used this song to praise American values. The irony of this is that the song
is doing the exact opposite of praising the United States for their role in the Vietnam War and their
treatment of their veterans. In an article titled Bruce Springsteen, Ronald Reagan and the American
Dream , Susan Mackey Kallis, an associate professor from Villanova University, with co author Ian
McDermott, explain how Springsteen, himself, spoke out against usage of music in this manner of
only paying attention to the surface (Mackey Kallis 7). This also true for many listeners throughout
the country. Listening to this song based on the

The Mind Body And Body
The Mind Body problem arises to Philosophy when we wonder what is the relationship between the
mental states, like beliefs and thoughts, and the physical states, like water, human bodies and tables.
For the purpose of this paper I will consider physical states as human bodies because we are thinking
beings, while the other material things have no mental processes. The question whether mind and
body are the same thing, somehow related, or two distinct things not related, has been asked
throughout the history of Philosophy, so some philosophers tried to elaborate arrangements and
arguments about it, in order to solve the problem and give a satisfactory answer to the question. This
paper will argue that the Mind Body Dualism, a view in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(In class, Schmit used the four elements to explain it.) Materialism is considered a monistic view,
since it considers that all things belong to this one fundamental kind of thing. Usually, the
philosophers that believe in Materialism presuppose that, if the mind is a material thing, then it is
reasonable to relate it to the brain or with the functioning of the brain, since the brain is a material
thing and it is certainly associated with thinking.
Opposed to Mind Body Materialism is Mind Body Dualism, a view which supports that mind and
body are not identical, but, in some sense, radically different kinds of thing. It denies that the mind is
the same of the brain, or a product of the brain, by arguing that the thoughts and the material things are
composed of different substances, and the mind is a thinking thing that lacks the usual attributes of
physical objects: size, shape, location, solidity, motion, etc. According to the Dualism, the soul is
comprised of a non physical substance, while the body is constituted of matter. This view also
establishes that mind and body are capable of causally affecting each other, even if they are
necessarily not the same thing. When applying this notion the human body, the meaning becomes
clearest: the intellect is responsible for all our acts, but it does not imply that the intellect is the brain.
For example, before eating a meal, which is a physical action, you probably felt hungry,

The Problem Of Desertification
ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE CONCERNS Desertification is an environmental and socio economic
problem. Environmental justice is characterized by the equal sharing of risks and benefits, distributed
equally without discrimination. The land affected falls in rural areas beyond the mainland which are
primarily occupied by non Han ethnic minorities. These areas include the autonomous regions of Inner
Mongolia, Xinjiang, and Tibet, which have historically been oppressed. The social component of the
problem creates a cycle in which poverty exacerbates desertification, and in turn, desertification
aggravates poverty. The cycle will continue until the wellbeing of people living in desertified areas is
considerably improved to the point where they no longer rely on degraded land for survival. Only then
will they be able to limit their impact on desertified land. Chen and Tang further explain For degraded
land, withdrawal of farmlands and enclosing pastures in order to exclude grazing are undoubtedly the
most effective ways to prevent further desertification. These measures would deprive local people of
their sole livelihood. Attempts to reduce desertification have neglected the human component of the
problem. As a solution, Wang et al. suggest that outward migration with a carefully considered
relocation policy is an important choice for desertified areas that are judged to be beyond ecological
carrying capacity. Miao et al. echo this idea, explaining that reclamation efforts

The Effects Of Attendance On A Company s Bottom Line
In dealing with attendance issues one needs to realize that, attendance is not only an expectation, but
employers have the right to receive good attendance. Absenteeism has an effect on a company s
bottom line. One of these effects is a decrease in productivity which causes employees to carrying an
extra workload, supporting new or replacement staff, or be required to train and orientate new or
replacement workers which affects staff morale and employee service. Another effect felt by a
company is financial costs. These costs include: overtime or agency cost for replacement workers, the
cost of self insured income protection plans and premium costs may rise for insured plans. In addition,
a company will incur administrative costs which include; staff time is required to secure replacement
employees or to re assign the remaining employees and staff time is required to maintain and control
absenteeism. Each and every employee has a contractual responsibility to be present at work on a
regular basis. All levels of management must believe in, be committed to, and communicate their
expectations of good attendance (Benefits Interface, 2013). Employees will live up to the expectations
that you set for them, and if a specific number of sick days are considered acceptable per employee, at
best that will be the result. Expectations must be clear to both management and employees in order for
an attendance management program to get maximum results (Benefits Interface, 2013).

over a couple of air airplanes, they started to go for our main government buildings. The president
started to get concerned about the people s safety in America. So they decide to heavy down on
Airport Security. I think they really don t give you any privacy. Paul, Rand has a story to tell about
when he went to the Airport and he had to go through the line. They asked him to step aside for a
moment and they wanted to full body search him, but they didn t care if he missed his flight or not.
Today [in January 2012], while en route to Washington to speak to hundreds of thousand of people at
the March for life, I was detained by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for not

A lot of people have had personal experiences on bombing and other related things going on in the
airport or on the planes. In the last two weeks, I have been through TSA screening eight times and not
once was I asked to go through the millimeter wave machine, or undergo an enhanced pat down. Odds

The Gift Of The Magi Short Story Analysis
Throughout our lives there are things and people that each of us hold dear to our hearts. Things and
people we love and treasure above all, but sometimes we let the pressures from society dictate to us
what the standards of a happy life is, and we forget what is really important. In the story The Gift of
the Magi, O. Henry reminds us the nature of true wealth, true generosity , and true love. In The Gift of
the Magi we meet Della and Jim Young, a husband and wife that make sacrifices to buy each other a
Christmas gift. The story takes place at the turn of the century in a New York City apartment, and
deals with many themes such as love, poverty, and sacrifice. It is one of over 600 short stories Henry
wrote in his lifetime, and was first published in a New York newspaper in 1905. Henry started writing
short stories while in prison for embezzlement as a way to support his daughter. Ironically, the story
does not seem to reflect Henry s luck with love and relationships. After years of fighting alcoholism,
mental illness, and financial problems, Henry died in of cirrhosis of the liver in 1910 (imdb.com). One
of the points made is that Jim and Della have the gift of true love. We see Della s love for Jim by what
motives her to want to buy a nice gift. She did not want it to empress the neighbors, or to out give Jim.
She simply wanted Something fine and rare and sterling something just a little bit near to being
worthy of the honour of being owned by Jim. We also see

With that being said, those acts of torture are unquestionably, considered cruel and unusual being they both are causing pain in an uncommon way as a form of punishment. On the other hand, some believe torture is justified. They may argue that it s important to do whatever it takes to get the information needed, or to save the lives of others. The Mexican peso crisis started because of the U.S. influence towards Mexico s currency. The U.S. dollar has a significant value, and after the huge increased it had during the end of the year of 1994, the Mexican economy went down. People were choked and panicking, and investors were flying out of the country, making things even worse. What is the Peso Crisis? On December 1994 the dollar value went from 3.46 to 6.94 in March 1995. The drastic change in the Peso currency took Mexico s economy to another level. The peso had been devaluated for more than 90%. Prices in Mexico went really high in a really short period of time; and as a matter of fact, that took their economy to destruction. Both presidents, Salinas and Zedillo, as economists, they must have had an idea on how decreasing the value of the peso against the U.S. dollar would affect their economy. On the other hand, after the government realized what they got themselves into, both presidents, Zedillo and Salinas, started blaming each other this crisis. Mexico s economic crisis could have been prevented. In the first place, the actual president at the time, Ernesto Zedillo, had the smartest idea of telling the foreign companies and corporation, that had money invested in Mexico, that he (his government) was going to devaluate the peso (on his opinion which was a need at the time, but a not so smart idea on warning the companies that had invested a lot of money inside the country). Therefore, this generated the majority of the foreign capital to run away from Mexico, and let it sink. A dollar was being paid for 3 pesos, and after the devaluation, it was being paid a little over 6 pesos, and as of the present day of November 2017, it is valuated over 19 pesos per dollar. This ... The speaker in George Herbert s Easter Wings appears to simply embrace the world s suffering as a catalyst for God s mercy, to bring strength and spiritual intimacy through Christ s crucifixion and resurrection. Both speakers of Matthew Arnold s Dover Beach and George Herbert s Easter Wings lament the current state of suffering in humanity. While the speakers may appear to have differing beliefs, they both have hidden fears that place their hope in the afterlife. Arnold s Dover Beach opens with a tranquil scene. A place where waves crash on the shoreline of the English Channel, and a couple gazes out a window at the moonlit water. The speaker uses the imagery and sound of pebbles in the surf to create a metaphor for the story of souls and the persistent, incremental decline of faith that his culture has suffered. The poem ends with the suggestion of promulgating love in a world of violence and fear and pain. This is actually a metaphor, for God is love. • 23. Plato And Aristotle s Life Essay In much of both Plato and Aristotle s works there seems to be a general trend about the best way to live one s life and the different facets, actions and experiences one should encounter to reach this position. For Plato such claims can be clearly examined through his work entitled the Phaedo where he tunes into the qualification of what characteristics of human beings make up the essential pieces to one achieving the best life. Uniquely, in the instance of the Phaedo this comes by means of The Myth of Minotaur where a half man half bull is creature is formed, locked away and eventually slain by Theseus. However, such story signifies more than just the killing of beast for Socrates in Plato s text but rather stands as a metaphor for Socrates s death in which he represents the beast combined of body and soul slain by Athens. For it is the soul that leads to the best life of rational thinking but being combined with the body creates a beast which is all that is seen by Athens. Aristotle also makes an interpretation as to the best life one is to live in his text entitled Nicomachean Ethics. Throughout this work Aristotle makes continuous points as to why happiness should be the ultimate goal to anyones life. However, this can only be achieved through a life of contemplation and theory. The song bring some attention to the wrongdoings of the United States government in their treatment of their veterans, especially after the Vietnam War. It raises awareness by using a catchy melody to draw listeners in; but Springsteen fails to achieve his ultimate goal of influencing young adults to protest against their government because the memorable words in the chorus overshadow the plot in the verses. This makes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Springsteen s choice to involve himself in political issues, although not explicitly, was something that was building up throughout his life as he transitioned from a young adult to an adult in his mid thirties. As explained by New York Times writer Nicholas Dawidoff in an article from 1997 titled The Pop Populist , Springsteen s main concerns were not that of chasing young woman, but that of needing to change the world around him (Dawidoff). By the time Springsteen wrote Born in the U.S.A. , he had already built a good reputation for himself in the United States. This makes it possible for Springsteen to influence large crowds of people to take action or, at the very least, listen to what he has to say. Ronald Reagan used this song to praise American values. The irony of this is that the song is doing the exact opposite of praising the United States for their role in the Vietnam War and their treatment of their veterans. In an article titled Bruce Springsteen, Ronald Reagan and the American Dream , Susan Mackey Kallis, an associate professor from Villanova University, with co author Ian McDermott, explain how Springsteen, himself, spoke out against usage of music in this manner of only paying attention to the surface (Mackey Kallis 7). • 25. The Mind Body And Body The Mind Body problem arises to Philosophy when we wonder what is the relationship between the mental states, like beliefs and thoughts, and the physical states, like water, human bodies and tables. For the purpose of this paper I will consider physical states as human bodies because we are thinking beings, while the other material things have no mental processes. The question whether mind and body are the same thing, somehow related, or two distinct things not related, has been asked throughout the history of Philosophy, so some philosophers tried to elaborate arrangements and arguments about it, in order to solve the problem and give a satisfactory answer to the question. This paper will argue that the Mind Body Dualism, a view in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (In class, Schmit used the four elements to explain it.) Materialism is considered a monistic view, since it considers that all things belong to this one fundamental kind of thing. Usually, the philosophers that believe in Materialism presuppose that, if the mind is a material thing, then it is reasonable to relate it to the brain or with the functioning of the brain, since the brain is a material thing and it is certainly associated with thinking. Opposed to Mind Body Materialism is Mind Body Dualism, a view which supports that mind and body are not identical, but, in some sense, radically different kinds of thing. It denies that the mind is the same of the brain, or a product of the brain, by arguing that the thoughts and the material things are composed of different substances, and the mind is a thinking thing that lacks the usual attributes of physical objects: size, shape, location, solidity, motion, etc. According to the Dualism, the soul is comprised of a non physical substance, while the body is constituted of matter. This view also establishes that mind and body are capable of causally affecting each other, even if they are necessarily not the same thing. When applying this notion the human body, the meaning becomes clearest: the intellect is responsible for all our acts, but it does not imply that the intellect is the brain. • 26. The Problem Of Desertification ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE CONCERNS Desertification is an environmental and socio economic problem. Environmental justice is characterized by the equal sharing of risks and benefits, distributed equally without discrimination. The land affected falls in rural areas beyond the mainland which are primarily occupied by non Han ethnic minorities. These areas include the autonomous regions of Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, and Tibet, which have historically been oppressed. The social component of the problem creates a cycle in which poverty exacerbates desertification, and in turn, desertification aggravates poverty. The cycle will continue until the wellbeing of people living in desertified areas is considerably improved to the point where they no longer rely on degraded land for survival. Only then will they be able to limit their impact on desertified land. Chen and Tang further explain For degraded land, withdrawal of farmlands and enclosing pastures in order to exclude grazing are undoubtedly the most effective ways to prevent further desertification. These measures would deprive local people of their sole livelihood. Attempts to reduce desertification have neglected the human component of the problem. As a solution, Wang et al. suggest that outward migration with a carefully considered relocation policy is an important choice for desertified areas that are judged to be beyond ecological carrying capacity. Miao et al. echo this idea, explaining that reclamation efforts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effects Of Attendance On A Company s Bottom Line In dealing with attendance issues one needs to realize that, attendance is not only an expectation, but employers have the right to receive good attendance.
