Joyce Ann R. Tuazon is a third year student studying Bachelor of Elementary Education with a specialization in Early Childhood Education at Cavite State University. She discusses her learning in the subject of Educational Technology. She covers topics like the definition of educational technology, its importance in education, and trends in different Asian Pacific countries. She also discusses how technology can support meaningful learning methods like discovery and constructivism. Finally, she reflects on how the course has made her a more modern teacher ready to integrate technology to engage future students.
3. THE STUDENT
Hi. I’am JOYCE ANN R. TUAZON
18 years old. A 3rd year student of
Cavite State University (Main campus)
Taking up Bachelor in Elementary
Education with specialization in Early
Childhood Education.
4. THE STUDENT
Educational Technology (EDTECH)
is one of our 12 subjects this semester.
In this portfolio, I will briefly discuss the
things that I learned in this subject
5. Educational Technology in A
Nut Shell
Educational technology refers to the art and craft of
responding to educational needs. It is a field of study
which is concerned with the practice of using
educational methods and resources for the ultimate
goal of facilitating the learning process.
Educational technology as a subject made me realize
a lot of things about technology and its importance
especially in education
6. Educational Technology Topics:
In this subject we tackled about:
Educational Technology in Asia Pacific Region
Inclinations to Educational Technology
Role of IT in Educational Technology
Computers as Third Revolution in Education
Use of Technology in Teaching Learning Process
7. Educational Technology in
Asia Pacific Region
There five progressive countries in the Asia Pacific
region and they state policies and strategies to
infuse technology in school. This help the
educators to create an educational technology
environment in the schools and to improve the
way children learn
8. The 5 progressive countries are:
Educational Technology in
Asia Pacific Region
1.Education Technology in New Zealand
- This country focuses on Infrastructure for
increasing school access to Information
communication technology (ICT). This
country uses an Online resource center
9. Educational Technology in
Asia Pacific Region
2. Education Technology in Australia
- This country uses fast local and
wide area networks linking schools
across the state and territory
10. Educational Technology in
Asia Pacific Region
3. Education Technology in Malaysia
- This country uses classroom with
multimedia presentation facilities
for collaborative network
11. Educational Technology in
Asia Pacific Region
4. Education Technology in Singapore
- In this country students are more active.
The teachers are trained for purposeful
use of Information technology (IT) for
teaching.
- The pupil computer ratio is 2:1 there’s
also a school wide network.
12. Educational Technology in
Asia Pacific Region
5. Education Technology in Hong Kong
- This country has 40 computers for each
primary school and 82 computers for
each secondary schools.
- There are 85,000 IT training places for
teachers
- There is a technical support for each
school
13. Inclinations to
Educational Technology
Basic Concepts on Integrating Technology in Instruction
As time goes by There’s a lot of change in technology in
education and it made the learning easier and effective for the
learners of the new generation
Educational technology makes the lesson more interesting and it
catches the attention of the learners. It improved the quality of
teaching and also the way of how teachers and learners
communicate with each other using technology
14. Inclinations to
Educational Technology
State of the art ET Application practices
There are different trends that should be recognized by educators
and they must be aware of how state of the art ET application
practices helps teachers in shaping the mind of their learners.
There are also obstacles in IT practices because not all can afford PC
or let’s say that it is time consuming and most of the time technology
fails due to lost of electricity or other unexpected reasons.
Teachers must acquire knowledge in using the technology, but they
must also be skilled in using back up plans.
15. The Role of IT in
Educational Technology
Meaningful Learning
- It gives new experience that is related
to what the learner already knows.
- It gives attention to meaning
IT Enters a New Learning Environment
Generative Learning
- Active learners who attend to learning
events and generate drawing from
their experience
Discovery Learning
- Students perform tasks to uncover what is
to be learned
- Process oriented rather than content
oriented
Constructivism
- Learner builds a personal
understanding
16. Higher Thinking Skills Through IT-Based Projects
4 IT based projects:
1. Resource based project
- The teacher steps out of the traditional role. It let the students to find
information or facts
2. Simple creations
- Creating is more important with planning, making, assembling, designing
or building
The Role of IT in
Educational Technology
17. Higher Thinking Skills Through IT-Based Projects
4 IT based projects:
3. Guided Hypermedia Projects
- The use of Instructive tools such as power point presentations
- The use of Constructive or Communication tools such as multimedia narration,
interview and video clip
4. Web-based projects
- Students can create and post web pages on a given topic and there are also
related sites which students can use in adopting information about the given
topic
The Role of IT in
Educational Technology
18. Computers as the Third
Revolution in Education
Computers as Information and Communication Technology
Computers help us to gain information or news through the
use of the internet and It really changes the way people
grasp news and information. Today, through the us of PC
with internet you can communicate with you love ones
anywhere and anytime you want to.
19. Computers as the Third
Revolution in Education
The Computers as a Tutor
Computer-assisted instruction (CAI) acts as a sort of tutor,
delivers the instructions and provides feedback.
It works best in reinforcing learning through repetitive
exercises such as student can practice basic skills or
knowledge in various subject areas. It is use as instructional
material in delivering a lesson or activity which helps the
learners to adopt the lesson easier
20. Computers as the Third
Revolution in Education
The Computer as the Teacher’s Tool
Computer as the teacher’s handy-tool can in fact
support the constructivist and social constructivist
paradigms of learning.
21. Computers as the Third
Revolution in Education
The Computer as the Teacher’s Tool
The constructivism gave stress to knowledge and discovery of
new meaning/concepts/principles in learning process. In short
the learner discovers it alone
In Social Constructivism the construction of knowledge is
governed by social, historical and cultural contexts. In short,
there’s a sharing of knowledge and discoveries to one
another
22. Use of Technology in
Teaching-Learning Process
The Software as an Educational Resource
The software refers to all computer programs which
direct and control the computer hardware idea
23. Use of Technology in
Teaching-Learning Process
2 kinds of Software
System Software Application Software
24. Learning Through Edtech 1
and Edtech 2
I learned a lot from Edtech 1 and when we started
discussing the Edtech 2 It added more knowledge about
technology and gave stress on how it influence the way
children learn and the way man grasp information through
the use of technology. It is a good start for us because
someday we will be applying all the things that we learned
from this subject
25. Learning Through Edtech 1
and Edtech 2
Other people believes that someday machines or computer
will manipulate things and they can replaces the
professionals. It’s a big challenge for us to prove that even
though there is a wide use of technology. TEACHERS are still
the one who will facilitate learning and No Machine can
replace teachers because TEACHERS have a heart that
understand humans. Teachers Teach with Love.
26. Learning Through Edtech 1
and Edtech 2
Technology has a great influence in education because as I
said on the past slides it made the learning easier and more
fun. The integration of technology is not that easy because it
requires time, effort and Of course to integrate technology
one must have tools to use. The teacher must have the skills to
use the technology right. This subject is very important
because the learnings from this subject will help each and
everyone in the present and in
27. The Student after
Educational Technology
I am a techy person before I take this course, but after Educational
technology I became not only a techy person but also a modern one.
I realize that being techy is not enough as future teacher I must always
update myself because today, learners are more eager to learn through
technology and the day will come that they will be bored learning
through traditional way. Educational technology changed the way I think
about being techy and It made me realize how advance my learners
could be in the near future. It gave me perseverance to be more
advance and ready in the field.
28. “
”
Teachers need to integrate
technology seamlessly into the
curriculum instead of viewing it as
an add-on, an afterthought or an
event.
