2. INTRODUCTION:
• Global Data communication system using
standardized Internet Protocol
Suite(TCP/IP).
• Consists of millions of private, public,
government, business networks from local
to global space
• Cheapest and fastest means to get and
provide complete information.
• World’s largest computer network
scattered all over the world.
3. PACKET SWITCHING:
A digital networking communication
method
Groups all transmitted data into
suitably sized blocks, called packets
Transmitted via a medium that may
be shared by multiple simultaneous
communication sessions.
4. GOVERNANCE:
Internet operates without a central
governing body
Each constituent network sets it’s own
policies
IETF and ICANN are the regulatory
bodies that govern some of the
aspects of the internet.
5. IETF:
Known as Internet engineering task
force
It underpins and standardizes the core
protocols IPv4 and IPv6.
Non-profit organization
6. ICANN
Internet cooperation for assigned
names and numbers
Administers the principle name spaces
of the internet
Co-ordinates the assignment of unique
identifiers for use of internet including
domain names, Internet protocols(IP)
addresses, and other parameters.
7. IANA:
Known as Internet assigned number’s
authority
A department of ICANN
Responsible for global co-ordination of
DNS root, IP addressing and other
internet protocol resources.
8. WORKS OF IANA
Domain names:
• manages the DNS Root Zone along with
other functions.
Number resources:
• coordinates allocations from the global
IP and AS number spaces, such as
those made to Regional Internet
Registries.
