The UN Informal Interagency Task Team on Sustainable Procurement in the Health Sector (IIATT-SPHS) aims to develop guidelines and strategies for more sustainable procurement practices in the health sector. The IIATT-SPHS involves several UN agencies and other stakeholders working to address the environmental impacts of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Their goals are to establish consensus-based criteria for sustainable procurement, develop harmonized tools for implementation, and influence international standards. Current initiatives include assessing carbon footprints, modifying bidding processes, and building organizational strategies for green procurement. Future plans include guideline development over two years and integrating activities through a joint programming proposal.
