This document discusses applying lean startup principles from Startup Weekend to innovation and entrepreneurship education in Norway. It notes that a student learned more from Startup Weekend in 54 hours than six months of classes. It questions how to reinvent education around Startup Weekend thinking and apply its principles like customer interviews. It argues current models are too rational versus enabling strategic imagination, and asks how to develop students' innovation skills and motivation to succeed rather than just teaching models.

4. Having just completed a StartUp Weekend in Stavanger,
I’m left with one question,
“how do we reinvent our education in innovation
and entrepreneurship around the principles of
StartUp Weekend thinking”.

5. The Lean-principles:
Are radically different than how
strategy, innovation and
entrepreneurship is currently being
taught. Doing strategy work often
leads to long discussions on models
and theories, while I have yet to see
a single student group go out an
interview potential customers.

6. Now, the question is how can we
apply some of these lean
startup principles to our
innovation and
entrepreneurship
education in Norway…..

9. What I’m increasingly seeing is that the models
we are using here are too timid and rational vs.
the strategic imagination possible using other
tools and methods.

10. But I think the big
questions remains, to
quote Wagner; “how
do we develop
students’ innovation
skills and motivation
to succeed”, rather
than teaching them
the correct academic
models….?
