into Your Classroom

Why Technology
Integration?

 Effective technology integration must happen across the
  curriculum to enhance the learning process.

 Technology should support four key components of learning:
  actively engaged learning, cooperative learning, frequent
  interaction and feedback from both peers and
  teachers, connection to the real-world.

 Technology integration is successful when the use of
  technology is common place, not something special that
  they “get” to do. It is routine.

 Technology integration builds upon and supports already
  established curricular goals.
Why?

 Properly used, technology will help students acquire the skills
  they need to survive in a complex, highly technological society
  that is continuing to be developed.

 We are training students today for jobs that are not only not
  created yet, but aren’t even thought of yet!

 We can’t teach students how to use a specific program, as
  those programs will most likely be long gone! We need to teach
  them the skills necessary to use any program.

 We need to teach students how to problem solve to figure out
  how to do things on their own. We can not spoon feed them all
  the time.
What’s the
Difference?

 Technology should not be the extra thing that has to be
  fit into the school day. Technology is another tool that is
  to be used to enhance the curriculum.

 Technology Integration should not stand out to the
  learner. It should be transparent and routine.

 Technology Integration is not just going to the computer
  lab to learn keyboarding and basic computing skills.
How?

 The Internet is your greatest resource!

 Do Google Searches! (examples: “How do I integrate
  technology into the 3rd grade science curriculum?”
  “Online activities for 2 digit multiplication”).

 Ask your PLN!

 Do not recreate the wheel! If you want to do
  something, you are most likely not the first! Go find what
  you are looking for and modify what you find to fit your
  needs!

 Think outside of the box!

                          It all works!

 After helping students learn to problem solve and figure out
  basic computing skills, they will be able to think, create and
                   develop their unique ideas!

  • 1. Effectively Integrating Technology into Your Classroom Kirsten Innes EDIM 510 June 2012

Why Technology Integration?  Effective technology integration must happen across the curriculum to enhance the learning process.  Technology should support four key components of learning: actively engaged learning, cooperative learning, frequent interaction and feedback from both peers and teachers, connection to the real-world.  Technology integration is successful when the use of technology is common place, not something special that they “get” to do. It is routine.  Technology integration builds upon and supports already established curricular goals.
  • 3. Why?  Properly used, technology will help students acquire the skills they need to survive in a complex, highly technological society that is continuing to be developed.  We are training students today for jobs that are not only not created yet, but aren’t even thought of yet!  We can’t teach students how to use a specific program, as those programs will most likely be long gone! We need to teach them the skills necessary to use any program.  We need to teach students how to problem solve to figure out how to do things on their own. We can not spoon feed them all the time.
  • 4. What’s the Difference?  Technology should not be the extra thing that has to be fit into the school day. Technology is another tool that is to be used to enhance the curriculum.  Technology Integration should not stand out to the learner. It should be transparent and routine.  Technology Integration is not just going to the computer lab to learn keyboarding and basic computing skills.
  • 5. How?  The Internet is your greatest resource!  Do Google Searches! (examples: “How do I integrate technology into the 3rd grade science curriculum?” “Online activities for 2 digit multiplication”).  Ask your PLN!  Do not recreate the wheel! If you want to do something, you are most likely not the first! Go find what you are looking for and modify what you find to fit your needs!  Think outside of the box!
  • 6. Who?  Teacher Directed Instruction  Student Directed  Teacher Created  Student Created It all works! After helping students learn to problem solve and figure out basic computing skills, they will be able to think, create and develop their unique ideas!
