- To lead strategy – you need to set the agenda. What do you want, where can you make the difference Who needs to be influenced. Small institution and small chief executive team. Ensure you know who the key influencer is… Don’t forget the student voice – should be most influential voice
- Why? We want to improve our NSS score – and respond to ‘not enough books’ Looking at barriers. We never mandate anyone doing anything. AQSU requirement for online reading lists. Use advocates – one here tomorrow. What we really want is to change the way reading lists presented As Jane says look for opportunities
- What did we want to achieve – make the link between library and research Not going to talk too much about this as Jane is covering Training, lead development of software, monthly report to HoD Research Celebrate our research – colour of goalkeepers shirt.
- Affecting the teaching agenda – wanted to reduce the class tech calls outs and prepare staff for digital world; AV provision : Classroom of the future (PVC and DVSE) What we are working on next : CPD… (DVC)
- Example is video lecture capture. Wanted to support students – dyslexic, sports therapy, music/performance Strong resistence – threats to resign. Champions. Used everywhere. Complaints that rooms don’t have them in it. Use Student voice Used by VC & professional services
- Understand your organisation & external drivers Which strategies do you need to influence? Align service strategy / objectives
- Committees & influential stakeholders On the ground practitioners, Communities of practice, SU Being helpful / useful; committing time & resource; making things happen
- Start small. Exploit every opportunity. Commit – time, expertise. Communicate.
