DISEASE
• Pelvic inflammatory disease or pelvic inflammatory
disorder (PID) is an infection of the upper part of the female
reproductive system namely the uterus, fallopian tubes,
and ovaries, and inside of the pelvis
• The disease is caused by bacteria that spread from the vagina
and cervix.
3. SIGNS&SYMPTOMS
• fever
• cervical motion tenderness
• lower abdominal pain
• new or different discharge
• painful intercourse
• uterine tenderness
• adnexal tenderness, or irregular menstruation
5. DEFINTIONS
• Salphingitis is an infection and inflammation in the fallopian
tubes.
• Oophoritis is an inflammation of the ovaries. It is often seen in
combination with salpingitis It may develop in response to
infection.
6. • Pelvic cellulitis
Inflammation of the tissue adjacent to the uterus, particularly
in the broad ligament.
• bacterial infection of the parametrium,
occurring after childbirth or spontaneous or therapeutic aborti
on. It represents anextension of infection via the blood vessels
and lymphatics from a primary wound infection in the external
genitalia,perineum, vagina, cervix, or uterus.
7. BARTHOLIN’S GLAND
• It is also called as greater vestibular glands
• These are two pea sized compound racemose glands located
slightly posterior and to the left and right of the opening of
the vagina.
• They secrete mucus to lubricate the vagina and
are homologous to bulbourethral glands in males.
8. • Bartholin's glands are located in the superficial perineal
pouch in females
• Bulbourethral glands are located in the deep perineal pouch in
males
10. • Bartholinitis is inflammation of one or both of the two
Bartholin's glands, which are located one on either side of the
opening of the vagina, behind the labia (lips)
• Vulvitis is an inflammation of the vulva (the visible external
genitalia).
• When both the vulva and vagina are inflamed, the disorder is
called vulvovaginitis.
